It's half time and the Netherlands is already up 3–0. Why are the British so bad at football?

Yeah, alright Dutchaboo 🙄

Why does the UK get to have 4 separate teams. I thought it was one nation? Or are they so desperate to have the World Cup in the aisles that they just forego their super important sovereignty in this case?
Splitting the nation into 4 hardly helps us win World Cups. It means we have the England team base and any other players that might help ... Gareth Bale or Ryan Giggs for example, are not allowed to be included in a UK team.

We have 4 nations because we have separate leagues in those countries and so their respective football associations want the power and money (gate receipts, shirt sales etc) and so we can't unify the team.

Is this really relevant in a thread about football? If you are truly interested in my life story, feel free to create a thread about it in CN or AR, where I can shitpost at you as much as you like.
You profess to be a Northern Ireland fan. I ask the very reasonable question ... 'Why do you support a country you have no connection to?' and you refuse to furnish me with a proper answer. The proper answer is that you are appropriating other people's culture because your own is rather unimpressive. I'm an Englishman. That ranks very high on the list of 'do you have any culture?'. Like a fine wine ... I have provenance. You're trying to slap a champagne label onto a €2 bottle of plonk.

Why?
Because I have Irish heritage. Is it important? They're all just human beings wearing differently coloured shirts, at the end of the day.
Well you should have some reason for picking a random country. If I said "I support England and Lithuania" you'd ignore England and ask me why I supported Lithuania.

So what of this Irish heritage?

Quote from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_heritage
Cultural heritage is the legacy of tangible and intangible heritage assets of a group or society that is inherited from past generations. Not all legacies of past generations are "heritage", rather heritage is a product of selection by society.

Cultural heritage includes tangible culture (such as buildings, monuments, landscapes, books, works of art, and artifacts), intangible culture (such as folklore, traditions, language, and knowledge), and natural heritage (including culturally significant landscapes, and biodiversity).

From the list above, what have you got that is your Irish heritage?

Why do you have a weird obsession with Northern Ireland? Have you ever been? It's a dump.
Ireland has one team, which I would support
Why?

Is there any chance we can move this out of 'Technology & Information" and into a board called "Anoraks"?

^This? This is the most underwhelming keyboard I have ever seen. Its not even backlit. How are you going to find the prt sc button in the dark? Looks like something Hewlett Packard would have bundled with a 486. I'm guessing it doesn't match your black bezeled monitor, your desk, your mouse or anything else.

>he looks at his keyboard when he types
You know I do. I made a thread about it!  >o<

How much did you pay for that monstrosity? $200+ ?

He doesn't want to. He wants someone to use moderator powers on the perpetrator. Its not a stop to the messages he wants. It is revenge.
No, it's a stop to the messages I want.
I already told you how to do that. You weren't interested.

Go into account settings. There you will find an ignore list. Add your nemesis to this list. Poooof! No more DMs from Markjo.

You might be able to do something with this as sort of a clunky workaround:

You'd have to create a "buddy" list. Not sure how to do that.
He doesn't want to. He wants someone to use moderator powers on the perpetrator. Its not a stop to the messages he wants. It is revenge.

toddler-like tendencies
That makes it sound like it is me. It is not me. I rarely DM anyone.

??? What financial illiteracy is this?

Let's suppose that I own a big business. Thork Industries.

I'm going to take in £5bn profit this quarter. My shareholders don't want the government to get 1 penny from my company. That's viewed as a waste.

So I go to a bank and I borrow £5bn at 3% interest. I can now tell the government that I have loan repayments of £5bn and hence made £0 of taxable profit.

Job done. It doesn't matter if the tax rate is 12.5% or 25%. Corporations aren't paying it. You just pay 3% to the bank instead. In effect, the bank has the lowest tax rate and the bank is collecting all the taxes without the burden of having to pay for healthcare, education, an army etc.

Thanks for reminding me to order an Andorran flag.

Also, learn to use the [time] tag. I edited your quote to give you an example. It will automatically convert to each user's configured time zone and format.
Your shitty [time] tag doesn't account for things like British Summer Time. So now it misinforms any UK users wanting to watch the games.

]People can change. 4 years is a long time in politics. They're different now. You should hear them out.

Or, to paraphrase; "People can change.  20 years is a long time in Afghanistan.  They're different now.  You should hear them out".

Honestly, Afghans abusing Afghans is none of my business. We can't be expected to look after everyone on earth, because they are incapable of looking after themselves. Either build a workable society or live in a 3rd world crap hole. Africa has made its choice. Afghanistan looks to have opted for something similar.

What is their policy on putting food on supermarket shelves?
Pay people a wage that they can have some quality of life with. Hire British. Pay more.

Henry Ford famously paid his staff enough so that they could own a Ford model T of their own. In Britain we do the reverse and we smash the price of a chicken down, so that a chicken worker can afford chicken by paying all the chicken workers less. It's a race to the bottom.

Yes, yes, they've already been smeared as far right before they've even uttered a single manifesto pledge
What are you talking about? They only got de-registered in 2017 (and only because their literacy prevented them from keeping up with bureaucracy). Their pledges are more recent than the Brexit vote.
People can change. 4 years is a long time in politics. They're different now. You should hear them out.

You didn't read as far as three sentences into the article, did you?
No, I was too excited.  🥳

Philosophy, Religion & Society / 🙋‍♂️ UK gets new political party
« on: September 27, 2021, 07:48:14 PM »
Only today, I was bemoaning the lack of choice, how even the Tories were drifting left and there was no one to counter this.

I've not voted Conservative for many many years now, opting instead for UKIP when it mattered most, and I spoiled my voted when asked to choose between Corbyn and Treason May.

But alas, a party I could possibly get behind has emerged. One that doesn't believe that men can have cervixes. One that isn't pro unlimited immigration, doesn't want to rush into the arms of the evil European empire and won't be fawning over all things woke. Ladies and Gentlemen ...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-58713102

Yes, yes, they've already been smeared as far right before they've even uttered a single manifesto pledge, but everyone is far right from the perspective of the extreme left of the BBC. They're actually just a bunch of regular blokes who don't think drag queens are funny and aren't afraid to turn a black candidate down for a job if they are no good.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Re: Germany elects a new Bundestag

Forced into a shitty deal
No, we are not having this conversation again. If you want to find out why you are wrong, you can re-read the last umpteen times we talked about this.
I'm no more likely to agree with the unconvincing diatribe you posted any more this time, than the last time I read it.

You are just being extremist, as usual — but I shouldn't be surprised about this from a Tory supporter. Nobody is denying that Macron has and will continue to have influence, but calling him "the leader of the EU" is nothing but media hype.
So we've gone from 'an uninformed opinion that is worse than useless' to 'media hype'. That's some concession. You now admit that it is not uniformed because it is a media narrative, that its not just my opinion but the one held by mainstream news outlets, and that far from being useless, it is a credible way of thinking about the EU. You still tried to dismiss it as 'media hype', because you are as thrilled about being dictated to by Macron as I would be, but I'm sure he isn't going to make mayonnaise compulsory with every meal. We'll reasonably sure.

So now we agree that most people who know anything about the politics of the EU (and you've just learned a little more - you're welcome) are of the opinion that its new leader will be Macron. After Merkel. Did you vote for Merkel? Or Macron? Or did a foreign power just start dictating how you might lead your life? What you need to vote for is a little bit of sovereignty.
