My point is the ISS is in an obit but not the orbit people think.
If you go into the link you can track every one of the metal objects flying around and I can't find one that goes in a straight line or one going over a pole north or south.

Yeah, but..... so what?

Please confirm which part of the Moon you're regarding as the 'point' ...

You seem to be trying to contradict something I didn't say in the first place. I didn't say the ISS went over the poles. I said it's in orbit.

What do your 'waves' look like if you trace them out on an educational globe model? Have you tried that?

The photo comes from this Page 1 of this University of Pennsylvania paper on the subject:

Did you read that document, or merely take the photo and caption from it?

and ...

You're not going to illustrate yourself what you mean when you talk about "pointing into the Earth" .... at all?

If you think the satellites are flying around the earth like the rings of Saturn then I have a big surprise for you.

.. but I didn't say anything about the rings of Saturn. Only you did.

And I didn't refer to multiple satellites, either. I referred to the ISS.

Dictionary definition;

the regularly repeated elliptical course of a celestial object or spacecraft about a star or planet. "the Earth's orbit around the sun"

That'll do it for me. The ISS is in orbit. Around the Earth. You can't have an orbit without an orb, globe or sphere to orbit around.

Do I need to define "orb", "globe" and "sphere" now ...? Or "Earth"?

So when you say orbit do you mean its going round and around the world like the rings of Saturn?

Is that addressed to the room, or to someone in particular?

Neither the thumbnail, nor any image that I can find in that YT video shows the LBT ...

It doesn't really matter where we put the horizon on the night side of that earth. The moon should still be pointing into it, not away from it. Imaging it in 3D doesn't help either.

The moon will only point away from the horizon on that earth if we put the horizon line on the day side.

So you're not going to tell us where and when that photo was taken, then?

If not, perhaps you could illustrate what you mean when you talk about "pointing into the Earth", since I've gone to the trouble for you ... ?

I didn't claim it wasn't in orbit. I was questioning the claim that it was.

What else could it be, other than in orbit? What other possibility fits with the available evidence?

I'm providing a general illustration to show the principle. I picked an arbitrary location on the night side of the Earth because I don't actually know where or when your photo was taken.

And I've just realised mine shows the observer before sunrise, not just after sunset. So what? It's an illustration of the principle, not the actuality.

The illustration is in 2D. Your observer could have been above or below the page. You have to at least imagine it in 3D, with a hemisphere toward you, above the page, and another below it.  You can't draw a line and say "this is the observer's horizon" unless you know exactly where he or she was. I'm happy to have another go if you can specify where and when.

One telescope out of many. So what? That wasn't who I was referring to as "monitoring the space agencies" (and their activities). The telescopes on Mount Graham look at stars and galaxies, not orbital craft.

One of the examples I quoted was taken one hour after sunset. The moon is still pointing into the sky. How does your string example make sense?

Like this. The Sun shines past the Earth, onto the Moon. You look at the Moon from any number of points on the dark side of the Earth, and see it lit by the Sun. Because you're at an angle to it, you don't see the whole lit face, which is why it's not a full moon in the picture you used.

The first YT video quoted above has comments disabled. Dontcha have to wonder why ....?

Here is a simple observation. The next time you see the sun and the moon in the sky at the same time notice that the phase of the moon never points at the sun. The angle is often wildly off.  How is this possible?

You are at one point of a triangle. Earth at one point, Sun and Moon at the others. IF you were aligned with the plane of the triangle, and exactly perpendicular to it, you would see the terminator on the Moon vertically every time, and the sun and moon would both be on a horizontal with your line of sight.

But you're not. You're not standing in space, aligned with these things. You could only be aligned this way if you were at approx the North or South pole. You're somewhere inbetween, and at an angle to the triangle. You're tilted with respect to the sun/moon plane

Where were your videos taken from, and when?

There is no independent anything when it comes to space. It takes massive amount of energy to keep the game going. All for one and one for all.

So .... do you know who I was referring to when I referred to those who monitor the work of the space agencies?  Or are you just going to tar everyone with the same brush without knowing?

My opinion is that satellites orbit the earth in space.

Why not say that in the first place, then?

OP didn't ask for that opinion, he wanted a FE opinion, so I gave him a way to find his answer.

Your first and second answers read as if you actually hold that FE opinion. Result; you seem to be frustrated with others, when you didn't really make yourself clear in the first place (IMHO) ....

Honestly, don't you guys have anything better to do?

You've obviously got as much time on your hands as I have. I joined Feb 11, and have 40-odd posts, you joined end of January and have 70-odd.

Why do you find it so unreasonable that I query what GPS and NASA have to do with each other, and draw comparison between your mention of NASA, and the lack of NASA satellites?

If the standard response is going to be "Look in the Wiki" every time, then why have the forum?

Isn't it interesting, though, here on the forum where there's the opportunity to defend the theory, to explain how the Sun stays the same size in the sky as it's moving further away, that it disappears even when there's supposedly a clear line of sight to it - there's nobody in the entire flat Earth community willing to explain their point of view.

Except for the books we have written over the last 150 years and the Wiki which talks about that, right?

So, in the space of one sentence;

  • Avoidance - simply failing to respond
  • Giving a list of references that supposedly completely answer everything

If your response is "Look at the books I/we have written" (but not mention any book(s) in particular) and/or "It's all in the Wiki" (but fail to cite anything in particular in the Wiki), then why have this forum at all?

How do you know it was in orbit?

What else could or would it be doing?
