Flat Earth Media / Frozen Lake Proves Flat Earth
« on: February 20, 2020, 11:27:21 PM »
The Wider Flat Earth movement is finally starting to reproduce Rowbotham's other convexity experiments which involve multiple points aligned onto a plane:

Frozen Lake Proves Flat Earth (Runtime 3m23s)

This experiment is similar to Experiment 2 in ENAG:

https://wiki.tfes.org/Experimental_Evidence#Experiment_Two

Quote
Experiment Two

From Experiment Two of Earth Not a Globe we read:

“ Along the edge of the water, in the same canal, six flags were placed, one statute mile from each other, and so arranged that the top of each flag was 5 feet above the surface. Close to the last flag in the series a longer staff was fixed, bearing a flag 3 feet square, and the top of which was 8 feet above the surface of the water--the bottom being in a line with the tops of the other and intervening flags, as shown in the following diagram, Fig, 4. ”

“ On looking with a good telescope over and along the flags, from A to B, the line of sight fell on the lower part of the larger flag at B. The altitude of the point B above the water at D was 5 feet, and the altitude of the telescope at A above the water at C was 5 feet; and each intervening flag had the same altitude. Hence the surface of the water C, D, was equidistant from the line of sight A, B; and as A B was a right line, C, D, being parallel, was also a right line; or, in other words, the surface of the water, C, D, was for six miles absolutely horizontal.

If the earth is a globe, the series of flags in the last experiment would have had the form and produced the results represented in the diagram, Fig. 5. The water curvating from ”

“ C to D, each flag would have been a given amount below the line A, B. The first and second flags would have determined the direction of the line of sight from A to B, and the third flag would have been 8 inches below the second; the fourth flag, 32 inches; the fifth, 6 feet; the sixth, 10 feet 8 inches; and the seventh, 16 feet 8 inches; but the top of the last and largest flag, being 3 feet higher than the smaller ones, would have been 13 feet 8 inches below the line of sight at the point B. ”

On analysis of this experiment, if the earth were a globe, one important remark would be that it is quite the coincidence that the flags all experienced the Flat Earth refraction effect, one by one, all the way down to the end, which projected each flag into the air at the exact height they needed to be at in order to make things look flat in accordance with the distance looked across and the height of the observer.

There are multiple control points in this experiment and others. Each point is a test in the experiment. Incredible refraction coincidences would need to occur to account for them. The top of the first flag would have to have been projected 8 inches into the air, the second flag 2.67 feet, the third flag 6 feet, the fourth flag 10.6 feet, the fifth flag 14.29 feet, and the sixth flag 24.01 feet into the air, when the later flags should be below the horizon. Rowbotham is well aware of the "it was refraction" argument, and his experiment is designed to test the refraction of light rays on the flags of constant height against the taller flag at the end. The observation is artificially manipulated—controlled—to separate one explanation from another, in the effort to more truthfully determine a cause of an observation.

Flat Earth Community / Should we have a section on Religion?
« on: February 19, 2020, 06:25:25 PM »
We usually don't talk about religion in the Wiki, but it may be an important enough topic that we could have some information. The other website has a Mythology and Religion section that has some nice information, although the title seems to tie 'Mythology' with religion.

It would be be nice to compile all of the Flat Earth scriptural arguments and verses in one location for further reference. The section should disclaim that not everyone believes in the religious aspects of FE, but that we are providing a resource.

The only thing I would suggest for it is that it portrays the religious arguments as possible interpretations, rather than certain ones. Not everyone agrees with everything said about the biblical earth interpretations, but there should be a place where we can read about those different interpretations.

Flat Earth Investigations / Iran's Space Suit is a Halloween Costume
« on: February 10, 2020, 09:25:35 PM »
After Iran published a picture of their new space suit it was found that it was really a Halloween costume with an Iranian flag affixed to it.

Whoops!

How embarassing for Iran's "real" space program.

I don't usually discuss matters of the South, as I typically support a Bi-Polar model to which an Antarctica exist in traditional dimensions and an Antarctic Midnight Sun is possible. The following has caught my eye, however. A popular video called "Frozen South: Antarctica 24 hour Sun 4K" by someone named Anthony Powell is widely circulated to 'debunk FE' and show that there is a perpetual Midnight Sun in the southern regions.

From the video description:

Quote from: Anthony Powell
In the summer time at Scott Base the sun is above the horizon for 4 months, from roughly the end of the third week of October until the end of the third week of February. This shows the movement of the sun over a full 24 hour period near the peak of summer.

Camera was set to take a photo once every one minute and one second (so that the second hand would be moving) should have made it 1min and 2 secs so the send hand would move faster than the minute hand in retrospect. ISO 100, 100th sec exposure. Lens was set on f22 to get enough depth of field to have the watch and horizon both in focus, hence the sun-ray effect. A modified Orion equatorial telescope mount was used to track the sun. Camera and tracking powered by solar panel and batteries.

The above seems to imply that a camera was set on a rotating tripod, following the Midnight Sun and filming it in a natural setting. How is it, then, that the word "North" appears to disappear behind a layer of the land in the foreground, and appear in front the clouds?

I took a screenshot at around the 0:56 mark and adjusted the contrast settings a bit, since some of it is white on white, and added some arrows:

To me this suggests that the material has been cut into multiple layers. A foreground layer containing the land, a text layer, and a cloud layer. Quite curious that someone would feel the need to go to lengths to do this, to cut out different layers of nature, and then state that it's just a camera spinning around; causing me to believe that this video is not a true representation.

Not only just someone, but someone who apparently works directly for a US base in Antarctica.

Powell worked for many years as a Communications Tech for Telecom New Zealand, before picking up his first job in Antarctica as the Communications Tech for New Zealand's Scott Base in 1998. Since then he has continued to work at both Scott Base, and McMurdo Station, the US base run by the National Science Foundation.

This employee of the research base also directly taunts FE in the video description:

P.S. Flat Earth people, you are very entertaining with your comments. My challenge to you: put your money where your mouth is and book a cruise ship holiday to Antarctica below the Antarctic circle to prove the video wrong. I'll even reimburse the cost of your trip if you can prove the sun does not do this as shown in this video...  Edit: Years later, cue sound of crickets, despite 40,000 tourists and thousands of researchers and workers going to Antarctica every year, no one has taken me up on this offer.]P.S. There are undoubtedly other Midnight Sun videos of better, more convincing quality. Whether the Midnight Sun is true or not, and I tend believe that it is is possibly is true per a bi-polar model, it is merely interesting that someone who works for a research base in Antarctica would go to lengths to do this.

Flat Earth Community / A New Explanation for the Lunar Eclipse
« on: January 21, 2020, 10:59:01 PM »
If the theory of Electromagnetic Acceleration is responsible for the phases of the Moon, it follows that it may be responsible for the Lunar Eclipse as well. The Lunar Eclipse may occur on an occasion when the Moon temporarily moves beyond the vertical rays of the Sun, causing a shadow upon its face. The slightly concave, essentially flat shadow is convexly curved on the Moon simply because the Moon is a sphere, and itself exhibits convex curvature, more so than the shape of the shadow.

https://wiki.tfes.org/Lunar_Eclipse_due_to_Electromagnetic_Acceleration

The above page explains the conceptual basis of the matter, and shows why the Lunar Eclipse occurs when the Moon is Full and when the Sun and Moon are on opposite extremes of the Earth. The time of the Full Moon is when the Sun and Moon are furthest from each other, and where a wandering out of the Sun's area of light would occur. This idea is still in development, but is already more geometrically satisfying than previous explanations.

It seems that after a recent Wiki software update I have a hard time staying logged in. After logging in and going to make an edit, the Wiki will log me out when I go to press submit. After several attempts I might get an edit to go through. It is happening on Chrome and Firefox on a desktop, as well as Chrome on an Android phone.

Flat Earth Community / Flat Earth Quote Collection
« on: October 17, 2019, 04:15:13 AM »
A thread for discussion and sharing of miscellaneous quotes on topics related to everyone's favorite subject, Flat Earth. Not intended to be a debate thread.

I recently came across an excellent quote by science historian Dr. James Hannam:

“Although we condemn flat-Earth thinking as an example of foolish ignorance, a spherical Earth is actually counterintuitive. It’s such a radical idea that it has been ‘discovered’ only once, in Athens after 400 BCE. The concept of the Earth being round didn’t appear in any other civilisation. India and the Islamic world learnt it from the Greeks, while China had to wait until the Jesuits arrived in the 16th century and turned the Chinese view of the Universe upside down.”
—Historian of science Dr. James Hannam, author of "God’s Philosophers: How the Medieval World Laid the Foundations of Modern Science"

The question is, where do we put it?

Flat Earth Media / The Principle Movie
« on: October 10, 2019, 04:57:07 PM »
This post contains spoilers.

I came across this meme about The Principle, and the quotes caught my eye:

If that website full of falsities is trying to discredit it then there must be some truth to it.

So, I decided to finally watch Robert Sungenis' geocentrism movie The Principle. The movie consists of a mix of science history and interviews with famous physicists who were apparently interviewed believing that they were going to be part of a regular cosmology documentary.

The movie starts with them describing the Copernican Principle which states we are unimportant and with Lawrence Krauss screaming "we are nothing!!" We then join the physcists on a journey of discovery to make sense of cosmological data suggesting that we are central.

The common line about this movie is that scientists were "misquoted," but there is no mistaking that they are saying things like "it really looks like we are at the center of the universe... but don't worry, it only looks that way!", that there are large scale phenomena in the universe aligned with the earth and ecliptic, that it is really weird that experiments show that we are not moving, and that if the earth was the center of the universe it would solve many problems in cosmology.

The movie ends on a feel-good note. Maybe a little theological misquoting at the end... but "misquoted" or not, the statements are fairly interesting. At the end of it all, and after all of their challenges and struggles to make sense of nature, our cosmologist interviewees finally find God and admit that the earth is a very special place at the center of the universe. A happy ending.

Flat Earth Media / NASA: Going Nowhere Since 1958
« on: July 21, 2019, 06:53:44 AM »
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing Jeran Campanella explores the interesting history of NASA and it's relationship with politics since its inception in 1958. The film features several rarely seen clips, such as from president Kennedy speaking semi-privately about how he didn't really care about space, the Moon, or research, only the international order and defense implications.

Help me understand the direction of the Solar Eclipse.

According to what we observe:

- The Sun sets in the West.
- The Moon sets in the West.

Ask an Astronomer: "The Earth rotates counter-clockwise on its axis (picture a spinning top). Because of this motion, celestial bodies such as the Sun, Moon and stars appear to rise in the eastern sky and set in the western sky."

The Aug 2017 Path of Totality for the solar eclipse Started on the West Coast of the United States and ended on the East Coast.

If we observe the earth from the perspective of the sun, from a static point over the earth, the shadow of the moon would appear on the East Coast first and end on the West Coast.

When pressed for an answer, some have that it started in the West because the Moon is traveling around the Earth from West to East. However, if we have the Moon rotating around the Earth faster than Earth's rotation, then we should see the Moon set in the East every day.

How does this work?

Flat Earth Community / Wiki: Occam's Razor and Burden of Proof

I am considering whether or not to de-list the Occam's Razor and Burden of Proof articles from the main pages. They come from the early era of the other website, and can be interpreted as mainly trolling. However, it is possible that they are not trolling.

If either or both should stay, or if they should be rewritten, how should it be done and what should they say? These are subjects that come up on a regular basis.

Flat Earth Community / Dr. John D. Bedford Canal Experiments
« on: April 08, 2019, 10:51:43 PM »
Dr. John D. will be performing experiments on the Bedford Canal on April 13th. I find the matter to be interesting because, other than an attempt some time back that encountered lots of heat effects and extreme distortion in the distance, there have been no good modern repeats of the experiment on this canal.

Flat Earth Community / FE Core Mechanical Gyro Test
« on: March 07, 2019, 10:38:52 PM »
On YouTube there are numerous mechanical gyro tests which show no rotation beneath the earth. People have taken time lapse videos of gyroscopes, showing that over long periods of time that the earth does not rotate beneath it. The common rebuttal to this experiment is that the gyroscopes are "not sensitive enough."

I am interested in the following FE Core project:

Mechanical Gyro Motion Testing

https://fecore.org/project/mechanical-gyro-motion-testing/

FE Core is building a mechanical gyroscope with a base that can simulate the rotation of the earth.

"The bearing at the base of the gyro can be turned by a control circuit and a series of step down gears at rates slow enough to simulate between 5° to 70° per hour earth rotation in either direction."

The base of the gyro acts as a control to the validity of the device. If the gyro can detect the rotation of the base, then it should be able to detect the rotation of the earth. A performance of this experiment with no drift would provide an experiment that is difficult to impeach.

This one is a bit long, but interesting. Jeran presents a marathon of quotes from various physcists and astronomers who make statements along the lines that Heliocentrism and diunral motion are untenable or unverified, and that rejection of evidence or the invocation of illusions are used to explain failings. Announcements / On "Behind The Curve"
« on: March 01, 2019, 07:15:45 PM »
It has come to our attention that a documentary titled Behind the Curve has appeared on Netflix and is introducing significant numbers of new people into the Flat Earth discussions. After viewing this piece we feel that the work depicts a poorly researched Flat Earth Theory. It should be noted that the Flat Earth Society was not consulted with the science of the documentary and that the topics discussed should be further researched.

Questions have come up about the light experiment at the end of the film. We point to the following from an account of a self-proclaimed Round Earth proponent who was present at the Jeran event [archive link] :

"In about 10 tries, with the light held waist-high at 17 feet above water we never clearly saw it through the center panel hole. On one of the attempts, maybe the fourth of ten, we clearly saw it when Enrique lifted it over his head. On that one, Jeran asked him to raise it and lower it a few times, and it would appear when Enrique raised it and vanish when he lowered it. That was the "gasp" moment. Jeran said, "that's interesting." I noted it was the prediction for a round Earth. When they repeated the whole procedure, it did not happen again. I suggested having Enrique move from side-to-side a bit when occluded by the panel, in case it was lateral alignment that was off. Jeran accepted the suggestion, but it made no observable difference."

Of about ten observations, the fourth observation was the only one where the event occurred, and the only one which was published in the documentary. Nine of the ten trials did not see the event. The above description of inconsistency suggests the presence of curving light rays in the experiment—refraction. The manner in which the experiment was portrayed in the film by the producers further suggests dishonesty. The documentary does not show the times the event did not occur. Misrepresentation of this nature is called scientific fraud. Had the results of all ten trials been honestly presented it would have, assuredly, been a far different segment.

It should be noted that time lapse photography has shown that the curvature of light rays across long distances can be a regular occurrence. Since ancient times, mankind has used this inconsistent effect as a primary piece of evidence that the Earth was spherical 1.

Per the Ring Laser Gyroscope, the claim that this device can see the rotation of the Earth is the latest in the controversy between Copernicans and Anti-Copernicans on the matter of the Earth's rotation. From the era of Ptolemy, to Tycho Brahe, to conflicts of the Victorian Era, and even to attempts in present day, science has been engaged in the attempt of finding direct and conclusive evidence for the rotation of the Earth 2. When assessing the Ring Laser Gyroscope studies of Earth's rotation, we find that the device does not appear to be measuring the Earth's rotation directly 3.

Regarding other social aspects of the film as presented by Delta-v Productions, we may only comment that it is a non-compelling argument to consult with psychologists rather than to seek the consultation of scientists and experimenters on combating the Flat Earth movement and demonstrating truth on empirical grounds. The Flat Earth Society values scientific integrity and demands direct, conclusive, and repeatable evidence that our Earth is a globe.
