"Justice Amy Coney Barrett: Supreme Court isn't driven by politics" https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/politics/mitch-mcconnell/2021/09/12/justice-amy-coney-barrett-supreme-court-decisions-arent-political/8310849002/

It's cute that a couple of the most conservative members of the Supreme Court want to now convince the public that the Supreme Court isn't politically-driven. But that veneer was basically blasted away when the Republicans refused to allow the confirmation of Merrick Garland. Kinda tipped their hand there. The Supreme Court is as obviously corrupted by partisanism as any other branch of the government.

It's both sad and terrifying. It's become the rallying cry of a large chunk of an entire political party (constituents, media, and the politicians themselves) that every loss is a cheat. I'm not sure the Republican Party can truly be viewed as a democratic political party anymore. They keep veering closer and closer to full totalitarianism.

Tom doesn't understand how anything works. Does he not even know what the acronym to AIDS is? Holy s&@t...

Of course he does. He just doesn't always think through the shit he's spewing while he's trolling. It makes for some humorous faux pas' from time to time, like that time he asserted that if a physicist says something it must be true after over a decade of nothing but attempts to discredit everything every physicist has ever said regarding the shape of the Earth.

But I guess you guys just enjoy the banter or something, who knows what motivates y'all to keep feeding such an obvious troll?

No, you're trying to make other people afraid. Obviously you're not afraid, you're railing against something your previously stated personal philosophy suggests you're actually indifferent to. That kind of makes your fearmongering worse.
IF you somehow believe I am indifferent to governmental interference regarding private medical decisions, then your beliefs are as unfounded as your intellect.

But why? If your opinion is we all die anyway so who cares how or how quickly, why does this even matter to you?

They're just beds, really. Nothing is being done to help them because they are going to die anyway.

It looks like life and well-being take on some significance when you think it supports your argument, but you don't give a shit about either when it doesn't. It's just hypocritical.

As an aside, are you okay with it when insurance companies make such private medical decisions for people? That's the system we have in this country now; insurance companies decide who lives or dies in many cases. Does that make you angry too?

Also I assume you're pro-choice?

If government has the authority to do this, then they will also have authority to pull you off life support.

If it was from someone who refused to get the vaccine, to save the life of someone who got the vaccine, I'd be all for it.

If you're gonna be a dumbass about something that could save your life you deserve to die.
Roundy's position = Pull life support from anyone for any cause, not just Covid!

Thanks for solidifying your evil intent for all, Roundy.

Can you explain how it's evil, when they were going to die anyway? Whether pulled from life support or not those people are going to die, just like me and you! Why are you fearmongering all of a sudden?  ???
I am not making a fear mongering statement.

This is a statement regarding what should and should not be allowable for a government to require of its citizenzry.

You know, the shit you are always whining zabout.

Not so much of a libertarian after all, are you.

I don't think I've ever claimed to be a libertarian. I'm full-on liberal, always have been.

I guess I don't understand why you think life support is even important. It doesn't save someone from dying after all, since we all die. So why does it make a difference to you at all who the government would allow to use it?

That's why you're fearmongering here. You're hyping up a situation as overreach even though you don't believe in the usefulness of the situation anyway. If we all die anyway and it doesn't make any difference how or when (again, just using an argument you made previously here), why would such a hypothetical situation as you imagined I created bother you so?

Please, stop fearmongering.
I am not fearmongering.

I am making a statement regarding what I believe to be ill-based government policy decisions made by fiat and not based on scientific reality.

I am not afraid.

Have you had a change of heart? Does a few extra years of life suddenly mean something to you? Please, at least solidify your own intent so we can understand your position better!

If you're gonna be a dumbass about something that could save your life you deserve to die. I know it's crude to put it that way but it's that simple. Idiots who refuse to get the vaccine are clogging up hospital beds. Give those beds to the responsible people who did what they could to prevent getting the virus. If you refused to do something that would have prevented you from being on life support, and somebody else needs that system, sorry about your luck.

Besides, everyone dies, right? They will die eventually whether on life support or not. According to reasoning you've used in this argument, it doesn't make a bit of difference when they die, so stop fearmongering!   >:(

Full disclosure - I eat meat and consume lots of dairy. Definitely not a sucky vegan

What do you guys think about farming dogs and eating those? Cool? Maybe our culture finds that abhorrent. Other cultures finds eating cows or pigs to be bastardry

Pigs have demonstrated to have intelligence on par with a human toddler, empathy, facial recognition etc not unlike a dog. Why is it OK to eat them but not a dog?

When I visited Korea I did try dog stew by the way  8) I was told it was not someones pet  :)

I think humanity does need to change how it operates in this field though. Leaving ethics aside, the way we utilize animals for food is not sustainable, has a lot of wastage and is not healthy in the amounts many of us consume.

Apart maybe for the fact that (in our culture anyway) one is bred for companionship and one for food, I don't really see any ethical difference between eating dog and eating pig, it is a matter of personal preference. I will die before willingly giving up my bacon and pork chops; enjoy your dog stew if you'd like, we live in a free society.

"It is meat eaters – not vegans – who are the preachy ones | The Independent" https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/vegan-meat-veganism-stigma-principles-b1913217.html?amp

I mean, you might think a journalist trying to make a point about others being preachy might minimize her own level of preachiness in order to avoid undermining her own point, but not this one. This woman just can't help but pepper her article about the preachiness of non-vegans with constant reminders that meat is murder and eating meat is evil (or immoral, at the very least).

She points out that many more people say they care about animals, yet a very small percentage of them actually avoid meat, suggesting that all those people who say they care about animals but still eat meat must be doing so because society pressures them. It's much more nuanced than that.

I care about animal welfare. I think something needs to be done about the deplorable conditions animals kept for meat currently suffer through.

At the same time, I love eating meat, and have no plans to ever stop eating meat, and I feel no shame about either.

The argument that we should stop eating meat altogether if we love animals is nonsensical. We don't need to undo millions of years of evolution to demonstrate that we care about animals.

To put it in perspective: Is it immoral to feed mice to snakes, or worms to fish? We would consider it immoral to try to force a vegetarian diet on a naturally carnivorous animal. Why isn't it immoral for snakes to eat mice?

The law of the jungle. Some animals naturally eat other animals. And humans are among them.

So if you want to be a vegan, and are willing to not be preachy about it (this journalist clearly isn't, despite the holier-than-thou attitude of her premise), go for it. Modern society actually makes it easier than ever to do so; nowadays you can even buy disgusting, super-processed plant-based food and pretend you're eating a real hamburger! But don't try to equate eating meat with hating animals, or even caving to society's pressure to eat meat. You are making an extremely nuanced issue straight black and white by doing so.

And if you're gonna call out others for being preachy... ehh... maybe think about minimizing your own preachiness while doing so. Otherwise you just look like a hypocrite, like this journalist!

Wow. It appears that you are saying "so what," admitting that Joe Biden is disrespectful, and deflecting that the problem is actually with other people. Can't you liberals ever own up to your faults?

I don't see how any past bad action which any person of any particular group may or may not have done has any bearing on Biden disrespecting the families of dead soldiers. Two wrongs don't make a right. Why should Joe Biden be compared to any other person for his actions? Just because Adolf Hitler did some despicable things doesn't give Biden a pass on any despicable thing he does.

See how he dances around the question, refusing to actually answer it? I read recently that it's often what they won't say that's more important than what they will say. If you're not going to deny it you should at least apologize for it, this person said.

Tom, just admit that you're being a hypocrite. It's okay, take a look at my sig, you should be used to it by now.

That this is what Joe's being criticized for right now is just embarrassing for you guys.  ::)

Did he cough too? I don't think it truly reaches the level of scandal unless there's also footage of him coughing.

Ok, so I'm not rooting for anybody to die or anything. I do kind of appreciate that conservative pundits are helping to hasten the death of the Republican Party by convincing their flocks of sheep to not take the vaccine though. The need for voter suppression to keep the Republican Party on life support has never been stronger!

an apologist for everything Trump did.

What exactly did Trump do? I'd be interested to know the terrible things he did. Based on his actions and policies, I'd say he was a reasonably good president. I mean, he didn't surrender to the Taliban and leave £billions of military hardware in Afghanistan. He didn't read everything from a teleprompter and only take questions from pre-selected journalists. He knew what day of the week it was.

Tell me ... what was the terrible thing Trump did?

lol... I'd start a list but I have to work today, I don't have several hours to recount every awful thing Trump did while in office but I invite you to read over the Trump thread if you've really forgotten, most of it is in there.

Whereas the vaccine is garbage.

Quite effective garbage, though.

https://www.wsfa.com/2021/08/23/94-alabama-covid-19-deaths-among-unvaccinated/

We're seeing these huge surges in places where large numbers of people (including local politicians) are fighting taking the vaccine, but the vaccine is useless garbage.  ::)

BTW, lackey, boosters are a normal thing, even if they're not needed for every type of vaccine. Tetanus shots don't last forever, either, yet nobody seems to doubt their effectiveness. I bet you would get a tetanus shot if you cut yourself on rusty metal and your doctor recommended it, and I'd double down that you have had a tetanus shot in the past (unless Tucker Carlson told you not to, I guess, I must confess I'm not on top of the extreme Right's take on tetanus shots, but I haven't seen them speak against them). But the coronavirus vaccine is totally useless, because booster shots. I mean, seriously, the people whose arguments you're parroting are just making less sense and getting more desperate as time goes on.
