Is this a big size joke and the best hoax of thistory or do you really and genuinely think that earth is flat?

Yes, they do think the earth is flat. And there are so many of them they even have categories. You have those who believe it on a conspiractorial standpoint, those who believe on religious  grounds and finally you have those who believe in the flat earth on a "scientific" standpoint. The cool thing is that they come at the problem from very different perspectives. But even then you have people that come at it at all angles not unlike an octopus playing the drums flailing its arms around.

Tldr; Yes they do

The trouble is that the way they usually come across leads you to wonder if the FES is really just (Quote) "One big hoax or one big joke."(Unquote....from the Internet)

The Earth is flat.  Get over it.
Dr. Frank is a physicist. He says it's impossible. So it's impossible.

The world is a big place and not everything is intuitive. A lot of the things that are true about the science of our world are counterintuitive. Not everything is the way you think it's going to be. What I've found in a lot of the wiki pages is that the foundation of these beliefs are in "if the earth was round than the buildings should be curving away from me, I should see this, it should be this way". Based on what? Just your belief that you should see it that way? The world does not accommodate you, me or anyone else. The Earth is gigantic and the Greeks were actually able to measure the curvature of the earth very close to exact over 2,000 years ago.

Most of the science that deals with the FE Theroy is, though. But, in all honesty what weight am I putting into the words of the man who is content to not even explore possibilities that could disprove the FE due to its complexity:

It would be interesting to be able to make sense of the absurdities of quantum mechanics, but there are just some things we can easily observe without understanding with our present level of knowledge.  Perhaps some day.

I have explored a great deal that people such as yourself have claimed dispute a flat Earth and it has all been wanting.  It's not your fault you believe what you do and I have the greatest sympathy.  But the Earth is flat.  Deal with it.

This is a debate about the shape of the earth.  Critiquing ones opponent can only resolve information about the opponent not the shape of the earth.  How does your opponents condition resolve your stance on the shape of the earth?

But the purpose of this thread was just to state your opinion... there is no debate going on here. I also feel like flatout  intended something different with his question but obviously you didn't understand it either so at least I know it wasn't just me. Thanks for your support.

Stay scientific there, Roundy.

Could you give us an insight on how you see the world?
What does the cosmos actually look like to you?
Walk us through it so we can understand - it might help us to get over it.

Roundy - have you ever travelled to the southern hemisphere to observe the stars and moon from down here?
Have you ever travelled to Antarctica and the South Pole (as 44,000 people do every year) to check out that there is no edge, no guards, and 24 hour sunshine during the southern summer etc ?
Have you ever taken a flight from Sydney to Santiago to prove that the flight times of less than 12 hours would be impossible on the flat earth map ?
And finally, why is there no decent map of the flat earth that shows continents in their correct proportions and correct distances around them and between them ?
Because I live on the 'bottom' of a spinning spherical earth ...
*I cannot see Polaris, but I can see the Southern Cross
*When I look at the stars they appear to rotate clockwise, not anti-clockwise
*I see the moon 'upside down'
I've travelled to the Northern Hemisphere numerous times ... and seen how different the stars and the moon are 'up' there!
Come on down and check it out FE believers... !!

Don't forget that if nobody is allowed close to the ice wall then there cant be any first hand observations of it and therefore no accurate lines on any flat earth map!

I think if there are any flat earthers that really and truly believe that the earth is flat, they should either.:
(1) Join the Navy and see the real, round earth
(2) Go on a cruise ship and see the real, round earth
(3) Go down to the sea shore and watch ships come and go over the horizon on the real, round earth

The earth is a real, round earth.
If you have ever worked in any of these fields, in particular with those dealing with the horizon, you certainly have to deal with the curvature of the real, round earth. :
(1) In the Navy, lookouts estimating the distance to the horizon
(2) In certain types of surface search radars estimating the maximum range by the distance to the horizon
(3) In certain types of microwave repeater systems, for estimating the optimum spacing between repeater stations by the distance to the horizon.

Roundy, here is a question for you.
If the earth is flat, tell us how you would estimate the distance from you to the horizon ? Some figures and examples ?
The Earth is round. Get over it.
Navy lookouts know how to do this on a round earth and do it every day. It works. They know the earth is round.
So does the Navy. Have you ever been to sea ?

Obviously the only sure way would be to measure the distance from various heights and try to extrapolate a formula from the results. Anything but pure empirical evidence runs the danger of leading into error (a lesson REers really should understand by now, what with the hoops that have been jumped through over the centuries to get the theory of gravity to match observations among other things).

The "round earth" method has been used for some time and has been proven to be accurate. The lookouts compare their estimates of distances with those on the radars. It's just part of their training exercises and actual operations.

I'm just curious as to how it would be done if the earth was flat ? Could you give me some examples ?

I've already posted some, but I can post them again if you like.

I'm going to be off until I get back on about 6:00 or 7:00 PM CST.
