The Bible Supports The Flat and Hollow Earth Theory!
« on: April 20, 2019, 05:28:42 PM »
Why do most Christians reject the flat earth and the hollow earth theory when the inspired word of the one true god is very clear on the fact that this is the truth. The story of Genesis and the rest of scripture clearly explains the Earth as being built on top of the waters of the deep and that Sheol or Hell Exists under the Earth. It explains that the earth is covered by a dome inside which the sun, the moon, and the stars exist. Why do our own people abandon their own unconditional beliefs? Also many cultures and philosophers through out time have supported the flat and hollow earth theory.

I made a short documentary detailing my beliefs if you are interest I will leave a link below.

So is there actually any evidence to support this "hollow Earth theory"?

How thick is this "hollow" Earth? And does this "hollow" Earth have gravity? Wouldn't everything collapse by the pressure? The bottom of Marina's Trench has a pressure of 1.1 x 10^5 kPa, 1100 times greater than the pressure at sea level.

I am Christian as well and nowhere does the Bible state any physical characteristics of the Earth, but that it is indeed round! Genesis is a poetic book where Moses uses many metaphors to try to describe the revelations God has shown him. We cannot even assume that "day" written in Genesis is the 24-hour period we are used to.

That is absolutely not true.  When I read it, which I have read it a few times, I don't remember any where where it says that the Earth is flat in a literal meaning.  Even when Jesus said go to the ends of the earth to spread the gospel, it did not mean that there was an end of the earth.  Instead it was figurative language that suggests more of a universal scope and not the geographical goal.

In Acts 1:8, Jesus said to the disciples, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (NIV)

In the current round earth model the sun is the center of our solar system and the earth is spinning every 24 hours and also orbiting around the sun. The earth is in motion. Any bible verse which says the earth or the world is not moving supports the flat earth model in which the flat earth does not move at all and everything rotates around it. In addition our solar system is flying through space as well.

Verses that say the earth can't or does not move:

1 Chronicles 16:30:
"The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved."

Psalm 104:5

"He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved."

Psalm 93:1

"The world was set in place; it cannot be moved."

Psalm 96:10

"The earth stands firm; it cannot be moved."

If God set the earth on its foundations and it can NEVER be moved then how is the earth spinning to create the round earth day/night cycle?
If God set the earth on its foundations and it can NEVER be moved then how is the earth orbiting the sun?
If God set the earth on its foundations and it can NEVER be moved then how is solar system (with the earth in it) moving through space?

If you believe that the earth is not moving then none of those things listed above are true and you would have no choice but to follow a more biblical flat earth model.

This verse the Devil shows Jesus all the kingdoms of the earth from the top of a mountain. Since people lived all over the earth (like the Aztecs in South America) the only way for Jesus to see all the kingdoms of the earth from the top of a mountain was if the earth was flat:

Matthew 4:8

Humans were less educated when they wrote the bible and most people now consider the book to be less literal and more metaphorical/figurative. The bible is also not a book of science.
Tom is wrong most of the time. Hardly big news, don't you think?

Some people believe that the Bible is the word of God. If it's the holy word of God that the earth does not move then you have no choice but to at least do some serious research into the biblical flat earth models.

Do you have a citation for this sweeping generalisation?

The "word of God" is not enough. Is there any real evidence for this?

If there was some country on earth which had Christian/Jewish law as it's government then yes.

The issue is that in the United States (and most other countries) are laws are determined by a constitution and three branches of government and not by an ancient Christian/Jewish holy book.

Some countries, such as Saudi Arabia have a government which is also a religion and you can see the death penalty for sex outside of marriage and a society in which, until very recently, women were not allowed to drive.

The "word of God" is not enough. Is there any real evidence for this?

Traditionally the Biblical flat earth models are more based on the bible and faith much like belief in the Christian God is based on the bible and faith. If you would like evidence which supports a specific flat earth model (or weakens the round earth model) just search these forums.

The Bible can be the word of God and also not all meant to be read or understood literally. I believe there's also a verse about the earth being on pillars which not many FE people believe is literally true.
When scientific ideas challenge our understanding of Scripture then we should do some research into the science too, maybe our understanding of Scripture is wrong.
As ChrisTP says, the Bible isn't a science book, it teaches us deeper truths.

After attending a bible study group it's VERY clear that each person has a different view or take away from various passages/scriptures/chapters/verses in the Bible. What each individual gets from those verses can also vary greatly between the different translations.

There are many many people who take literal interpretations on different stories in the bible. Like JOB. They believe, through God, a man lived 3 days and nights in the belly of a fish underwater.

If a man can live in the belly of a fish for 3 days and flood the top of mount Everest with water and have a son who is both the son of God and also God at the same time then the earth can be flat.

Anyone in who has experienced an earthquake can verify that the Earth can be moved and it can be moved violently.  Also the bible also has several references to the earth moving.  So obviously these references that you were speaking of, is just a figure of speech.

Sure. God could absolutely have created a flat earth.
But it's long since become clear that He didn't and the advent of the Space Race stopped any serious debate on the matter.

If we're to take those words literally, then it doesn't say anywhere that the earth is not moving.  It just says that it cannot be moved.  Perhaps it is moving on its own, which is different.

Of course, the bible wasn't written in a time where the earth revolved around the sun, nor was it written by God Himself.  It was written by men.  Fallible men.  Can anyone say for certain that the word of God was scribed faithfully by these men without the use of symbolism?

Is this really appropriate for FET? It seems like this might be better placed in the Religion forum. It’s not clear what would be off-topic on this thread since FET and religion are being mixed.

Anyway, I’m skeptical of the Earth not being movable. A long time from now, the Sun will move from the main sequence to the horizontal branch phase, and then later it will die as a white dwarf. During these episodes, it will shed a fraction of its mass as solar winds. This will impact the orbit of the earth around it (and the other planets too). So indeed, the earth will be moved.
The fact.that it's an old equation without good.demonstration of the underlying mechamism behind it makes.it more invalid, not more valid!

I don't think Flat Earthers believe that the Sun undergoes a thermonuclear process to produce energy. If they do, the Sun would literally be as dense as a neutron star. And no red supergiant is as small as a city.
