Flat Earth Theory / cold moonlight
« on: August 14, 2019, 11:12:33 PM »
I have heard multiple flat Earthers talk about how the moon emits "cold light". Does the FES believe in this?

Flat Earth Theory / Stellar Parallax
« on: June 28, 2019, 11:24:28 PM »
In 1838, a man named Friedrich Bessel successfully measured the parallax of the star 61 Cygni. To this day we continue to measure the parallax of nearby stars, which we can then use to calculate their distance using the equation d = 1/p, where d is distance (in parsecs) and p is parallax in arcseconds. How does the flat Earth society explain this?

This is actually something iv'e thought about before. Its pretty valid evidence for a round Earth, and I would like to see the flat Earthers try and refute it.

Some people believe that the Bible is the word of God. If it's the holy word of God that the earth does not move then you have no choice but to at least do some serious research into the biblical flat earth models.

The "word of God" is not enough. Is there any real evidence for this?

Flat Earth Theory / Your explanation for the seasons makes no sense.
« on: April 21, 2019, 05:16:05 PM »
According to the FAQ, the seasons are caused by the sun moving towards and away from the north pole. During the Summer (northern hemisphere), the sun is closest to the North Pole, making the Northern hemisphere warmer than the southern hemisphere. During the winter, the opposite is true. Now according to Newton's first law of motion, an object will remain in motion/rest until acted upon by an outside force. This means that in order for the sun to go closer to and farther from the North pole, a force needs to act upon it. What force is causing the sun to do this? What is making it suddenly travel away from the north pole, then towards it after a couple of months?

So is there actually any evidence to support this "hollow Earth theory"?

Flat Earth Theory / Dome model and thermodynamics
« on: April 18, 2019, 08:53:11 PM »
Hello, I am not sure what the FES thinks about the dome model. Iv'e searched the wiki and FAQ, and I can't find any mention of it. Either way, I seem to have found an error. The sun, regardless of what model you accept, is the largest supplier of heat to the Earth and the hottest object in the system. The first law of thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created, so the sun must have a source of energy. Now this is not a problem for the round Earth model, which states that the sun's source of energy is fusion but I don't know how proponents of the dome model feel about that.
The first law of thermodynamics also states that energy cannot be destroyed. Where does the energy emitted by the sun go? Does it just stay here on Earth? If the system is isolated, then according to the second law of thermodynamics, the Earth and everything else in the system will increase in temperature until they are in thermodynamic equilibrium with the sun. The sun should be cooling and the Earth should be heating until they are the same temperature.
