Technology & Information / Re: Ask Rushy about Bitcoins.

The main point being your deposits are protected ... which they aren't with bitcoin as many bohemian investors are finding out.

Bitcoin is a currency, not a bank.

Irrelevant to Thork's point.  Bitcoin deposits are not protected by any government or financial institution.

Flat Earth Theory / Re: Satellites

I could set up a repeater in just a few minutes.  Plus, it could be that they already have permanent signal relays in place.  They have had a long time to create an infrastructure.
Where would you set up relay stations to cover the future invasion of Iran?  I have a sneaking suspicion that Iran wouldn't let the US forces use the ones that are already there.

Are you saying that it is not documented that video can be sent by anything but a Satellite?
Like a true FE'er, you keep avoiding the point.  No one is denying that there are several methods of long distance telecommunication.  The argument is that there are some situations (such as live reports from active war zones or other remote locations where there is no suitable telecommunication infrastructure) where satellite communication is the only viable option.

Also, how long do you think it would take to setup a few relay stations?
If that's going to be your rebuttal, then perhaps you tell us.

Flat Earth Theory / Re: Edges...
« on: March 06, 2014, 03:04:49 AM »

As for edges, I strongly suspect that there are no edges at all and that the earth is an infinite plane that it loops back onto itself, but that's purely theoretical on my part.  This model, however, doesn't suffer from the same distance related problems that the monopolar disc does.  Even still, evidence that those distance problems even exist is highly debatable.

So, if this last is true, I shold be able to see the back of my neck with a good telescope by climbing an average mountain, right?
That depends.  Do you have a telescope that can resolve a human neck through many thousands of miles of atmosphere?

Too many people treat these Bitcoin startups as banks when they're tinker toys at best when compared to a real multi-million dollar company.
Yes, because no one could ever hack a "real multi-million dollar company."  ::)

Hey Rushy, is Flexcoin a safe place to stash my bitcoins?
God damn it, how many times does this need to be said? If you stash your BTC online, you take a risk. If you store them with a 3rd party, you take a risk. No, Flexcoin is not a safe place to stash your BTC. This is elementary knowledge.

B-b-but Flexcoin was supposed to fix the problems with bitcoins.
How Flexcoin Solves Bitcoin’s Problems

Flexcoin solves nearly every problem that exists with the Bitcoin currency today.

Hey Rushy, is Flexcoin a safe place to stash my bitcoins?
Flexcoin is shutting down.

On March 2nd 2014 Flexcoin was attacked and robbed of all coins in the hot wallet. The attacker made off with 896 BTC, dividing them into these two addresses:

1NDkevapt4SWYFEmquCDBSf7DLMTNVggdu

1QFcC5JitGwpFKqRDd9QNH3eGN56dCNgy6

As Flexcoin does not have the resources, assets, or otherwise to come back from this loss, we are closing our doors immediately.

Users who put their coins into cold storage will be contacted by Flexcoin and asked to verify their identity. Once identified, cold storage coins will be transferred out free of charge. Cold storage coins were held offline and not within reach of the attacker. All other users will be directed to Flexcoin's "Terms of service" located at "Flexcoin.com/118.html" a document which was agreed on, upon signing up with Flexcoin.

On the other hand, never mind.

Because it's irrelevant.

It isn't, though.
Then perhaps you should point out the relevance.

Then why did you bring up dividends when bitcoins were compared to stocks?

Why not?

Because it's irrelevant.

Irrelevant.  Lots of stocks don't pay dividends.

Irrelevant. I never said they did.

Then why did you bring up dividends when bitcoins were compared to stocks?

Suggestions & Concerns / Re: The News Release
« on: March 03, 2014, 09:27:14 PM »
Should we refer to him as Daniel "Shenton" if that's not his real name?
"Shenton" is the name that Daniel uses for his official FES activities (such as they are), so I would say that it's the name that you should use in the press release.

Bitcoin is starting to sound more like shares of stock than currency.

Let me know when Bitcoin starts paying dividends.
Irrelevant.  Lots of stocks don't pay dividends.

The Trans-Antarctic expedition did cross a significant portion of the antarctic continent, but their route can easily be mapped on the "ice rim" model as well...
Then please do so.  It would be interesting to see how the FE route compares with the RE route.

Quote
The 1979 likely did the same thing, though it's possible they did venture farther into the antarctic landmass than the previous group.
I think that some here are operating under the assumption that the geographic south pole is in the center of Antarctica.  It isn't.

Once again - no one travels as if the earth is flat.
Not even flat earthers?

2375
Missing the point.  Inquisitive is the one questioning distances at all, not me.
Then why do you keep responding if you don't have any answers?

Quote
Are you claiming that the distance between the two would be different on a flat earth than it is on a spherical one?
If spherical geometry is very different from planar geometry, then why would you expect the distances to be the same?

2376
If you don't know or don't care, then what right do you have to question the official RE distance?

I didn't.  Inquisitive did.

How do you explain the measured distances between places fitting in with a flat earth?  eg. Falklands to Australia.
Not the way that I read it.  As near as I can tell, Inquisitive is questioning the FET distance from the Falklands to Australia, not the official RET distance.

2377
No one is claiming the cartographers are unequivocally wrong.  We are claiming that it is foolish to blindly assume they're right without doing any sort of inquiry yourself.
I'm sorry, but I don't see much difference between those two statements.  What reason should I have for not believing the cartographer's distances when my car's odometer confirms that a random smattering of distances are correct?

Quote
For my part, I don't know how far it is from the Falklands to Australia, nor do I care.
If you don't know or don't care, then what right do you have to question the official RE distance?

Though to be fair, Vikings don't exist anymore.
Sez who?

2379
You say that the distances are indisputable proof, yet you have never gone there, nor have you measured them.  You have been taught that the distances are facts, and so your closed mind doesn't question that.
The distances are facts because the cartographers told me so.  Who are you to tell the cartographer that he's wrong?

It seems that Thork has made a moderately powerful enemy.
