I don't think I'd put a dog through chemotherapy. It's a tough decision either way though, I hope you never have to make it.

I don't know what you're implying, but you're probably wrong.

Oh no, I wouldn't either. He's too old to bother with that anyway. We'll keep him on antibiotics and benadryl which have cancer slowing properties.

My dog's giant tumor feels like it's back. He has an appointment early Wednesday morning. I might have to put him down. I can't even express how much the thought of it tortures me.

I could not imagine putting a dog down.  I always let my wife do it.  I am a sissy.

The hardest part is having to make the choice. They could do surgery again, but it's expensive and it didn't buy him much time in the first place. But other than his giant stomach, he seems completely fine. Without cancer he could easily live a few more years.

The new tumor was about the same size as the last one. Instead of letting him deteriorate or put him through any more surgeries that would likely be as unsuccessful, we decided to just put him down today. We stayed with him the whole time and thankfully he went quietly.

Gone too soon. :'(

On a more serious note, I'm sorry. Hope you're holding up all right.

I'm not doing too well really. He was my first dog, the longest surviving pet I've ever had, and he's the first one that I had to personally decide to put down.

I watched him take his last breath and waited for another that never came. I pet his dead body that I half expected to move. After almost 10 years it's just weird to not have him. And I can't stop seeing his lifeless body when he was still so normal just a half hour before.

The tumor kept him from eating and moving normally, but other than that he was still doing fairly well. He hadn't gotten to the point of complete suffering yet but I couldn't watch him slowly die in front of me either. The tumor would have just kept growing. I know it had to be done but I just hate it. He should have lived at least a few more years.

I'm sorry to hear that. :(

I hope you will eventually find some solace in the fact that you've done the right thing and saved him a lot of pain.

Awww, that's horrible. I know what it's like to have to put down a pet you've had for years and years...it's so hard, and just a miserable experience. But, like pizaa said, be happy at least that you didn't make him go through any pain like a lot of more selfish owners do. :[

I hope you burned that thing with napalm. Otherwise it'll probably attack again.

Edit: I was talking about the tumour not the dog. Didn't read the whole thread. Thought the dog was OK. Sorry.
