Flat Earth Q&A / The Dome
« on: May 24, 2017, 07:35:16 PM »
No debate intended. Just a review of information about the dome.
(1) What is the dome made of ?
(2) How high above the earth is the dome ?
(3) Where is the bottom or base of the dome ?
(4) Any other information on the dome ?

Flat Earth Debate / Diameter and Circumference of Flat Earth
« on: May 06, 2017, 01:26:30 AM »
In a previous thread, according to "The Sacred Texts", the diameter of the flat earth was listed as 10,400 miles ; the circumference 52,800 miles.
But using the diameter of 10,400 miles, and using mathematics with "pi" equals 3.14, the circumference works out to 32,656  miles.
Working it from circumference=52,800 miles, diameter=16,815 miles.

How are these  differences explained ?

I have read another of diameter of 25,000 miles ; circumference of 78,000 miles.

Which is correct ?

Flat Earth Debate / The Horizon On A Flat Earth
« on: March 27, 2017, 03:18:22 AM »
This post is not intended as a debate.I am just curious because I don't know the answers and would like to know if some flat earth believer could supply the answers. You are certainly entitled to your beliefs.
Let me explain that I am what you would call a "round earther" and have had just enough education, training and experience to be familiar with the subject of the horizon.
I would be interested in seeing the flat earth definition of the horizon, where it is,  etc. - flat earth facts.

Flat Earth Debate / The Flat Earth Explanation Of The Horizon Is Impossible
« on: November 12, 2016, 06:38:24 PM »
The Flat Earth explanation of the horizon is.:
"An indistinct blur which fades away at an infinite or undetermined distance."
What is the reason for this Flat Earth explanatiion ?

The horizon is the definite line where earth and sky or sea and sky meet on a clear calm day with no atmospheric conditions to intrferfere with iits sighting.

Flat Earth General / Could this experiment be performed ?
« on: September 11, 2016, 10:50:38 PM »
This is just an idea....
No claims made for a theory or hypothesis.
Or even if it would be  practical or possible.
I rather doubt that there is a highway that would be straight enough and level enough.
Here is the idea. But....If you could.
Let's assume you are at Mile Marker  1 and then   take sights on Mile Markers 2 and 3 with a telescope
Could you perform an experiment something like the Bedford Level ?

Suggestions & Concerns / Suggestion for these websites
« on: August 01, 2016, 12:30:58 AM »
I  don't know if this suggestion would go over with the moderators but I would like to suggest this anyway.

Instead of all this argueing and name calling why not just have these websites as  flat earth fiction websites ?
I have seen some "fan fiction websites" . One for example is based on a continuation of the life of "Rose" , a character from the 1997 movie "Titanic".
The story covers the life from "Young Rose" to "Old Rose" - marriage, children, grand children, family life, etc.

Why not change this website just to get ideas from everyone of how things would have to be if the earth was flat.
And include Rowbotham's fiction as examples.

Whether the earth is a globe or flat has really no reason for debate. Maybe it was in 1850, but certainly not on in 2016.

Just an idea. Probably a minority one. But it would make these websites more believable, fun and entertaining  for me personally.
Why not just forget the reality of the "round earth" and just make these  websites for "flat earth" fantasy, fiction and ideas.

Flat Earth Q&A / Astronomical Observatories
« on: July 19, 2016, 12:54:44 AM »
Just curious as to what are the  views and/or opinions of Astronomical Observatories and their telescopes, laser beams,  etc. by true flat earth believers ?
Do they believe that they exist ?
If so, what is their purpose ?
How many true flat earth believers have visited an Astronomical Observatory ?

Flat Earth Debate / Question about the dome
« on: December 28, 2015, 12:40:52 AM »
If the flat earth is covered with a dome, it would seem that this dome would be at its greatest height over the North Pole and its lowest at the edge of the flat earth. Does this dome rest on the top of the ice ring ?

I don't know if any flat earthers believe in this dome idea, but if so, maybe they could explain this ?

For example, how high is the dome over the North Pole ?
How high over the southern tip of South America or Africa ?
Over the Equator ?

The reason I have posted this on the debate section is there are going to be round earth posts about the fallacy of this flat earth notion in the first place as there is no evidence of the ice ring or the dome.

If the earth was flat, you could see Great Britain from New York with a powerful enough  telescope with the right equipment. The old flat earth response of the the "dense -quote- "atmoplane" - unquote - could even be de-bunked with the use of infra-red film and filters in common use by amateur and professional photographers. Electronic telescopes could even be used to eliminate the -quote-"atmoplanic"-unquote- conditions.

Survivors of the Titanic disaster reported seeing stars rising and setting on the horizon.

And they were in lifeboats at practically sea level and looking through the thickest layer of the atmosphere at the stars -many of them distances in the light years away.

I used the words "atmoplane" and "atmoplanic". They are "red underlined" by "spell check" because  they are not real words. You see them only used by flat earthers instead of "atmosphere" and "atmospheric. " One more flaw in the flat earth fallacy.

Flat Earth Debate / Why do you believe the Earth is Flat ?
« on: October 16, 2015, 08:15:27 PM »
On what do you base your belief that the Earth is Flat ?

Suggestions & Concerns / Has the other website died completely ?
« on: October 14, 2015, 03:41:08 PM »
The "Problem with the other website" thread has been moved to "The Lounge."

However, this morning I was not even able to bring up the website.

Message received was "This website could not be found."

Has "the other website" died completely ?

Suggestions & Concerns / Warning comment
« on: October 07, 2015, 04:20:33 PM »
This is just a suggestion. I think the warnings could be eliminated if this forum could be operated in a more  user friendly manner. Just state that the forum is for a discussion of how things would be IF the earth was flat and posts from both sides of "round earth" and "flat earth" would be welcome on any section - not just the debate section. The warnings seem to be for posting facts ("round earth") on the Q&A section. There is really no debate as to the shape of the earth in the first place. You could say :"Ideas about how the earth would be IF it was flat and facts about how the earth really is are welcomed on any section of this forum. We all know that the earth is a globe and is not flat but it would be interesting if someone has some ideas about how things would have to be IF the earth was flat. So let's hear both sides. "

Just a suggestion. However it is your forum and you can run it your way.Just issue warnings for insults, profanity and other bad language.

In other words, why not just make this a "What if ? and Why not ?" forum website ?

Flat Earth Debate / Gleason's Map and Middleton's Map
« on: September 01, 2015, 02:48:51 AM »
What is the FES opinion of Gleason's Map of 1892 ?

It seems to be just a case of plagiarism. Gleason, or J.S. Cristopher , seem to have just made a copy of the Azimuthmal Equidistant Projection  and claimed it as their invention. The source for the map is not cited. The Azimuthal Equidistant Projection dates to the year 1000.

Gleason seems to claim the map as "scientifically and practically correct" and is the world "as it is" and "A New Standard Map Of The World."

the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own.

What is Plagiarism? — - Best Practic

Middleton's Map

Middleton's Map (1878-1899) seems to be a crudely drawn map. More like a child's scrawl .

FES advises this post is permissible under their rules. If it is not I have no objection to their removal of it.

How does the FES regard The United States Navy and The United States Federal Aviation Administration ? The USN uses Oceanic Charts and the FAA uses Sectional Maps. Both are made from projections of the Globe. They are in use every day and have been proven to be accurate and reliable. Does the FES regard the USN and the FAA to be of satanic nature and part of the vast "Round Earth Conspiracy" ?

Suggestions & Concerns / Warnings ?
« on: August 31, 2015, 05:06:53 PM »
I received a warning apparently  for posting some information in the Information Repository in regard to "Re: Gleason's Map Restored and Cleaned "

If the Information Repository is not a place for posting information, what is it ???

Flat Earth Debate / The Sun Is A Spotlight
« on: July 31, 2015, 08:25:27 PM »
I have come here because this website is managed better, works faster and I believe is the place to get flat earth answers.

It has been said that the sun is a spotlight. But there is another statement :
"It merely acts like a spotlight." An explanation would be appreciated. It seems there is some confusion. If the sun "merely acts like a spotlight" why is it not a spotlight ?
If it is not a spotlight - what is it ?

Flat Earth Debate / Distance From The Earth And The Size Of The Moon
« on: July 31, 2015, 06:13:09 PM »
Since this forum seems to be of a serious nature.

What are the FES measurements of the distance from the earth and the size of the moon.

There is ample evidence and proof that the moon is approximately 250,000 miles from the earth and has a diameter of approximately 2,150 miles.

What are the FES measurements, and what methods were used in these measurements  ?

If there is a difference between the FES measurements and those listed above, what are the reasons for the FES to refute those measurements ?

If you would like I could give you the details of the methods of how those measurements were made.

I am looking at this from a technical viewpoint.
