Flat Earth Theory / Flight durations vs distances
« on: October 22, 2015, 07:31:39 PM »
Hi, this was also posted on theflatearthsociety.org, as both forums seem to be active?
I changed this post, because the following comparison is way more drastic and therefor more appropriate

I took the flat earth map of Charles K. Johnson (black & white one) and measured 2 distances:
Santiago (Chile) - Auckland (New Zealand)
Doha (Quatar) - New York
turned out Santiago - Auckland ist around 2,14 times longer on the flat earth map

Then I checked real non-stop flight durations
Santiago - Auckland ... Quantas Flight QF 322  ... 13h10m
Auckland - Santiago ... Quantas Flight QF 321  ... 13h55m

New York - Doha ... Quantas Flight QR 0702 ... 12h20m
Doha - New York ... Quantas Flight QR 0701 ... 13h10m

Santiago - Auckland is done with a Boeing 787
New York - Doha with a Boeing 777

In Wikipedia, the cruising speeds are like:
Boeing 787 ... 561mph ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_787_Dreamliner#Design
Boeing 777 ... 560mph ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_777#Specifications
I tried to find that information on the Boeing homepage and couldnt, but speed differences are quite less between airplanes anyways, so pls lets say we can neglect this.

Now we do something that "helps" the flat earth map, we take the longer duration from Santiago to Auckland: 13h55m
and compare it to the shorter duration from New York to Doha: 12h20m

Here, Santiago - Auckland takes around 1,13 times longer than New York - Doha

So, we got a distance difference of 2,14 times (more than double distance)
But only a time difference of 1,13 (13% more)

How is that possible?
