Flat Earth Community / Questions For The Community
« on: April 11, 2019, 05:52:45 PM »
Hello,
I was hoping to ask some questions about this community for a project. My purpose in conducting this is to not challenge your views, just to get to know them better. Your answers will be used in an essay for my expository writing class, which is currently studying communities of different varieties. I chose your community because I find it interesting, but I feel it is rare to see any representatives given a platform in media. The questions I ask will largely pertain to your experience in the community and how you view it as a member. If you can’t answer a question or you don’t want to, that is perfectly fine with me. I thank you for any and all participation. Without further ado…

How long have you been a member of The Flat Earth Society?
What do you enjoy most about the community?
Who or what introduced you to the concept of flat earth?
Are you open about your beliefs to other people in real life?
How do people react after finding out?
Are you active in the community in real life?
Is it hard finding a platform to talk about flat earth, both as an individual and a community?
Are there any books or other pieces of information that is important to the community?
How do members typically contribute to the community?
How do you contribute? Forum discussion, or is there something more?
Do you look up to anybody in the community? Outside the community?
Are there any behaviors exhibited by certain members of the community that give it a bad name?
Say that flat earth makes it into the school curriculum, are there any particular course requirements or expectations you have? How about the qualifications of the person teaching the class? Would you trust an educator who was raised and taught on globe theory to explain that the earth is flat in an accurate way? (I tried to limit the hypotheticals, but these are just so I can get a better idea of your values and goals.)
And if I so happen to have any veteran members reading…
How has the community changed since you first joined?
Despite these changes or the lack thereof, what values have stuck with you as a senior member that you find important for new members to hold close?
Do you agree with the direction that the community is moving towards or is there anything you’d change?

Thank you again for sharing with me. Have a wonderful day!
-Jacob
