Imagine identifying as Republican in the US and alsonchampioming having the government make decisions on what kind of healthcare a person should be eligible to receive. What about personal liberty, coupled with personal responsibility, without a bunch of government oversight?

Some people really think federal, state, and local governments should be involved in decisions between a doctor and patient. The people best equipped, and the people with the strongest vested interest of the wellbeing of all parties involved in that interaction, are in the exam room. Maybe we should let doctors just do their job? It's not like they don't have years and years of very specialized training.

I'm trying to separate the member from the thread here. This isn't a defense of anyone's past behavior and it's not really a condemnation of anyone's recent choices. As a general statement, it seems silly to lock an AR thread because you think the OP should have posted in the uppers. You could just move it to the right place instead of closing it and locking it, then allow discussion to develop in the appropriate venue. And if it would have been locked in the uppers and/or sent back to the lower boards, then it was kind of in the right place all along, wasn't it?

You are wrong, now you know. I mean, he said as much, so you could have just read what he wrote, but I'm happy to tell you too.

The other physicists and mathematicians he works with commented on it before he posted it here. He wrote about that, too, in the very same thread. You could have read that for yourself. But you didn't.

Maybe leave your instinctive desire to bash anything that looks strange to you behind and reread what he wrote? It's a RE, expressed in a way that looks new and scary, but it's window dressing. He took your favorite planet and gave it a new look. Same shape, same physics, now being sold in new packaging.

In another thread, Troolon explained to me that measurement is broken. His attitude towards the same question was that when real world measurements do not match FE, one concludes that measurement is broken. Most would conclude that real world measurements confirm RE. If you wish to believe FE, something has to give, so measurement is broken. Result you don't like? Declare it wrong. No idea what forces or equations account for broken measurement? No problem. Only RE explains measurement? Just ignore the problem, i.e., don't reply.

You continue to demonstrate that you haven't understood a single thing Troolon wrote. Across 2 threads, simultaneously. Telling you that you are misinterpreting what he presented is not the same as telling you that measurement is broken.

They're rational, but they're cynical to the core and have long since abandoned their principles in favor of grasping at power wherever they can at the expense of our democracy. They can't be trusted, and making any sort of plan that relies on their help or cooperation is guaranteed to backfire.

And they say the same about Democrats.

Remember when Democrats negotiated on Obamacare in good faith, caving to Republican demands even though they had the votes to put through something truly differentiating like Universal Health Care if they wanted to, only to find that not a single Republican voted in favor of it despite the fact that it was a near-replication of Romneycare? So they can say what you are saying they will say, but they would be wrong. Democrats have been much better about negotiating in good faith than Republicans for most of my adult life. They are just shit at actually enacting anything of substance, usually because they campaign on the lofty goals, then whittle away at those to appease Republican legislators when courting votes, then don't get a single Republican to actually side with them (or sometimes, a single-digit number of Republicans might side with them), then lose power because they didn't accomplish what they set out to do.

That can happen with the attachments folder during a forum update, too. Nothing is permanent. I'm more of a mind that allowing attachments introduces unnecessary vectors for problems, and they should probably be disabled entirely. Having your images hosted with an image hosting service seems like a better home, and it allows the forum to operate with a lighter footprint on its own host.

I dare to say that despite pretending to know so much about the moon and the hoaxes surrounding it, flat Earthers cannot make a single prediction about the moon. Am I wrong?

Why would you upload a jpeg when places like ImgBB exist? Seems wasteful to take up hosting space for people to upload image files here, when so many hosting sites already exist that are purpose built for serving up images.

You think a group of people could keep track of the behavior of the moon over a period of months or years and not be able to make a single prediction about its behavior? I dare to say I don't think you are actually using your head at all if you'd suggest such a thing. Anyone can take notes on the cycles of waxing and waning and look for patterns that repeat.

Oh I agree.
But if a guy says "It's ok, I'm on the pill" would you really wanna trust him?  I sure as hell wouldn't.

Society has to get better at teaching guys not to sexually assault people. If you lie about being on birth control and subsequently impregnate someone, I'm pretty sure that checks the sexual assault boxes.

It also doesn't have to be an exclusionary choice. Condoms AND a pill for men AND a pill for women is a great way for everyone to stay safe, have fun, avoid diseases, and not make surprise babies. "And" is ok, maybe even great. "Or" leaves a lot of room for human error, malice, and in-the-moment selfishness to cause long lasting life changes.

Ships sailing north from different lines of latitude converge toward each other. They don't get further away from each other. That is the reality modern navigation has revealed to us. Leaving the discussion of rotated constellations behind (because it is definitely unresolved), you don't account for converging paths as people move north from various longitudes.

The courses of two ships would converge on a Northbound voyage assuming that they are both North of the equator. If they were South of the equator the courses would continue to diverge until they reached the equator.

Sure. I mean, I felt like that went without saying, but I guess it's worth pointing out. I was speaking from a Northern Hemisphere Supremacist perspective and that's probably not ideal.

OP does not consider it a FE model. Try reading. If it doesn't work the first time, try again. He said more then once that it's still the globe. Other physicists reviewed it and said it's a globe (also, that's why it's "practically useless" - because using this framework is really impractical when you could use the actual globe). If you spend a few cycles pondering the implications of everything troolon described, it's obviously still a globe. But people get so hung up on fighting against a perceived enemy that it doesn't even matter what is actually being said.

Go ahead though. Tell us all how wrong it is, and how it can't possibly describe reality as we observe it, despite matching observations because it's, you know, the actual fucking globe and stars just illustrated in a way that looks scary and foreign and so, obviously, it must be bad.

This is what I meant when I said you two hadn't actually read his posts. It's exactly the globe, expressed in a coordinate system that looks different without being different. The fact anyone is still suggesting the lines of longitude are diverging between the equator and either one of the poles in this thing he shared with us is clear evidence that the people making said suggestion haven't bothered paying any attention, yet they are still here to broadcast their ignorance and laziness for all to see while declaring some sort of weird victory. It's pigeons and chess.

Great work, guys. You successfully demonstrated exactly what I said. Sort of, actually. Existoid read without comprehension, so that's at least more than was apparent before.

Every coordinate in 3D space is directly mapped from a single point on the globe to a single point on troolon's FE. It's a globe. Anyone standing on the surface of the Earth would perceive it to be a globe, which has converging lines of longitude at both poles.

But by all means, continue attacking this representation of the globe, expressed in a scary foreign coordinate system.

If you spend a few minutes actually reading, instead of knee-jerk reacting to yell "NO, FE BAD", you may just discover that the model is quite literally still the same model as the globe. Because it is still the globe model. OP spent a lot of time responding very clearly, and was very patient, and it's clear the folks that have had the most vocal opposition aren't even showing the slightest bit of respect by reading what they have written.

My argument is a little more sophisticated than "NO, FE BAD" thank you very much.

It might have been, had you actually read what OP was proposing. This is still a globe, and those lines converge using the correct distance metric.
