Title: FE Popularity
Post by: Spycrab on March 29, 2018, 02:57:42 AM
We've had the knowledge that the earth is a globe for the longest time, but recently there has been a mass reverting. The flat earth society has had a meteoric rise in members. Any ideas why?
How could so many possibly change their minds at the same time?
Is this a problem? Could the rise in flat earth minded people impede future scientific progress?
How can we explore the stars if we're all convinced they're a whole colossal indestructible dome away?
Excited to get some answers.

No, infact it will cause scientific progress to be made much more than it is now. What people are doing is questioning what they hear. Instead of taking what scientists say as gospel truth, they look around and find that evidence of the globe being a spinning ball flying through space is, tbh, laughable.

I do think it's a sad reflection on the "post truth" world we now seem to live in.
There are others.
Brexit
Trump's presidency.
We live in somewhat troubling times where it doesn't seem to matter to people what is true any more.
I don't think it will gain mainstream acceptance because it is so demonstrably false.
A lot of the publicity is just that - publicity, it's people shaking their heads in bemusement that anyone in the 21st century would believe it.
They are not winning the argument because it is unwinnable.
No-one in the scientific community takes it seriously so I don't think it will hinder progress.
It is a slightly worrying indication of people's ability to think rationally and logically though.

Not sure what brexit and trump have to do with flat earth. Moving on.

The flat earth movement is growing, by the day people are waking up to NASA lies and realising the scale of the deception. Eventually it will be accepted as mainstream, they cannot hide it forever.
