SCG posted this in that other forum, so now I'm posting it here:

Hey, it has that guy from Breaking Bad in it.
-
I read he's playing the teacher this year.
The other teacher, I guess.
-
I should HIDE myself so you can't steal my posts! >:(

I quit watching Community during the fourth season because it wasn't very good anymore. Will season five be not terrible now that Harmon is back?

We don't know. Hopefully.

That trailer was pretty funny.

At SCG's request, here is another video:

This looks completely over the top.

I'm excited.
-
I don't think that the joke about Chang jerking off was really necessary.
-
I don't think that the joke about Chang jerking off was really necessary.
Is any of this "necessary", Saddam?
-
Deep.
-
I think Chang probably just needs to stop being a character please
he's so annoying
why is ken jeong still in comedy
-
It's not Jeong's fault. He just has almost nothing to work with.
-
Eh, besides the Changnesia thing I think he's been an entertaining character.
-
Yeah, he was good up until Season 3, where I think he had some moments but was largely unfunny.
-
Really? I can't think of any moments where he actually made me laugh and wasn't a throwaway, really annoying character. It seems like most of his bits are "look at me i'm so super silly DALALALALALA CHANG CHANG CHANG ridiculous thing". I feel like Ken Jeong is the little kid Dan Harmon feels really bad for and lets into the group even though all he does is yell and repeat jokes and say random things hoping it sticks
-
Him appearing as a Drow for Dungeon's and Dragons wasn't funny?
-
It was funny at first...until he started talking and doing his whole "I am ablahblahblah...the magiciiaaann hahahahahah i need to make silly voices to be funny" shtick. It seems like anything funny that involves him is at his expense and when he's not talking or really doing anything. Again, maybe I'm just crazy, but he seems to follow the Dane Cook book of comedy where jumping around and making funny voices = comedy gold!
-
I'll not have you comparing anything on Community to Dane Cook.
-
I'm sorry, but that is about how I feel about Chang. :[ There's probably a more apt comparison if I thought about it, but I can't say it'd be much more flattering
-
To be honest, I thought you guys were adopting an overly critical snobbishness when it came to the fourth season. I mean, people complained about a drop in quality with the third season, and I found it to be neglibile. I did not believe Community could ever possibly get as bad as everyone was claiming.
Having finally watched it, I can say that, if anything, you were all far too lenient. I do not have high hopes for what is to come next; the series has been permanently marred and is probably beyond recovery.
I just gave up hope and quit watching most the fourth season. I know they're trying to make the fifth season a "new" starting point, in the sense that you can jump in and watch it from that point forward and it'll still make sense. In my mind, the fifth season is the fourth season and the fourth season didn't happen.

There was a fourth season?

So was it good?
-
Yes.
-
Both episodes were really good. Jeff's ridiculous commercial and Abed's re-edited version of it made me laugh harder than anything in the fourth season.
-
fuck I missed it.
I need a streeeeeeeaamm

I didn't really care for either of those, but then again I feel like they were just there to get the season 3 and 4-esque ridiculous over-the-top pop culture skit out of the way. I like that there's once again a much larger focus on study room conversations and the actual school, and that Jeff is again in the role of the "group leader". It feels like their method of doing a do-over was just reverting back to their season one style, which is fine because I like it.
-
Holy damn, the episodes were...really good. Community is...good again?
omg im so happy
"That's like me blaming owls for how much I suck at analogies" killed me, as did so many other bits, omg. And without spoiling anything, Abed in the second episode in general. w0w.
My nephew's going to be very upset at the "I can't just pretend to teach people, I'm not MythBusters" line when I show him the episodes, though.
Also, Chang was a bit less annoying...except when he got all "hahahahaaaa weird voiceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees because thats comedy" like he is wont to do
But yeah, just in general I'm actually really excited for this season now! There were a couple of dumb bits, but like Blanko said, I like them subverting the last season by going back to season one style, though with hints of all the other seasons in it. As long as it doesn't become latter-half-of-season-3 or, god forbid, have more goddamn paintball episodes.
Also Magnitude is still dumb...which actually reminds me, his "mention" in the first episode was actually hilarious
-
Imagine if Nicolas Cage actually appeared on Community.
-

I loved how it looked like they were just ignoring the existence of Pierce, until Pierce actually showed up (more or less).
It feels good to be able to say I love this show again. :)
-
I thought they were good, but not spectacular.
How many more episodes is Donald Glover in? I'm pretty sure he isn't in all of the episodes.

The first 6 or 7.

That is magnificent. But yeah, that is basically what Chang is like to me, just not as hyper.
-
Was John Oliver good?
-
Was John Oliver good?
Yeah he was alright. I enjoyed Ep 3 but not sure I liked the style of it so much.
-
What the fuck was going on with the "Pierce is dead" thing? I still have no idea whether that was supposed to be real or not. It seemed really out of place. The episode was pretty good up to that point, I have no idea what they were thinking.
-
Nobody likes Dave Matthews.

It was jarring. I think it was meant to explain who the butt crack dude was.
-
I liked that episode a lot, it had a lot of good one-liners and the whole tone and everything was funny.
But, more importantly...Chang was funny!!! That blew my mind; I never expected to laugh at him like that before. It was wonderful.
I am about to watch episode four. I will report back with my findings.
-
I am not entirely sure how I felt about that one. It was funny, but it wore a little thin I think, and the ending was weird.
Oh, also, Chang was annoying again.
-

I could've sworn I posted saying Chang was good in this episode. He wasn't central to the plot, but when he made appearances, I laughed! I hope he assumes a role similar to Ep 3 for the rest of the season.
-
Still don't feel strongly about him. If he's funny I laugh, otherwise I don't care.
-
The critics and fans are apparently almost unanimous in declaring this one of the best episodes of the entire series. I seem to be the only person who didn't like it. There were a few funny moments, sure, but overall, it was way too mean-spirited. A good chunk of the things that they confessed to weren't charming little pranks, they were serious dick moves that were completely out of character. Especially Abed. Yes, he's weird, and he struggles socially, but it's not like he's completely unaware or inconsiderate of other people's feelings and emotional needs. It's something that he's clearly shown in the past, after all. Character development, what a concept. ::)
Also, there was a lot of really bad gross-out humor. Maybe this is just a personal thing, but I've never liked gross-out humor. In terms of comedic integrity, it's one step above fart jokes. And more importantly, it's something that Community's never done excessively in the past, and for good reason. It was kind of sad to see them sink to the lowest common denominator in this one.
-
I totally agree with you. I don't understand the love for that episode, it really wasn't...all that great whatsoever. It did not feel like a Community episode. There was a ton of potential for comedy (and indeed there was some, mostly through the things Pierce would have said were here there, like the weirdly racist bits), but yeah...too much of it was just way out-of-character meanness and gross-out jokes. The cause of his death was groan-worthy and pretty gross; I can't tell if it was Harmon trying to make a jab at Chevy Chase, or if he genuinely thought it was funny.
Either way, you're not alone.

Recipe for a 'good' Community episode:
1. Everyone at the table (bottle episode!).
2. Fast, witty banter.
3. Drama.
-
Other people myst weigh in.
-
I thought it was fine, the main problem being that we've had the "group confession" episode like... three times now? It just felt like a rerun of the bottle episode.
-
I thought it was pretty funny. Probably the only episode of this season that has made me actually laugh. I mean, it wasn't new or innovative and it didn't go along well with character development, but I'm just happy to have an episode that was actually enjoyable to watch.
Also, semen.
-

hahaha i am twelve years old and that is hilarious

Ugh. You must be one of those people who never understood why others around you were laughing hysterically at the fart scene in Blazing Saddles.
"This isn't funny! There's no comedic integrity in this!"
-
Saddam is too mature for your childish humor, Roundy.
-
Comedy is naturally devoid of integrity. It has a very simple test of its value: did people laugh or not?
-

The fart scene in Blazing Saddles is funny precisely because of how utterly stupid it is. Fart jokes are inherently dumb, lazy humor. They require no context, no transition, no special timing, etc. In this day and age, the best way to make a fart joke funny is to play off their (well-earned) reputation, which is exactly what Brooks did by making the farting the centerpiece of an overlong scene. If the fart jokes were treated like any other joke, just quickly coming and going without any special treatment, they wouldn't be nearly as funny.

This...

Does not jive with this.
On the one hand you are saying they require nothing special, but then on the other you are saying if they are treated like an ordinary joke they do not work. Sounds like you are saying you have to do something special with them to work.

Which is literally true with any overly used and cliched comedy trope, whether it's gross-out or not. Hell, it's true of comedy, period. It's the sense of the unexpected that makes something funny; if it's been done before, and especially if it's been done many times before, you have to put a new spin on it or it is stale and not funny. It's the reason why a (legendary gross-out) joke like the Aristocrats can be funny after seeing it told dozens of times within two hours. In many ways comedy is all about putting a fresh spin on an old joke.
Assuming it was the canisters of semen that offended Saddam's sense of comedic integrity, I can honestly say that I've never seen semen used in quite that way.
-
So, episode 5. The ending was pretty touching, but I didn't really care for the lava game joke.

What I mean is that nothing special is required to make the joke in and of itself. A fart joke in its most basic form is simply a farting noise. Anyone can do that at any time. For a fart joke to rise above being a cheap gag, then yes, it does need something special, like some awareness of how bad those jokes usually are.

I thought episode four was funny as hell. Obviously, as it has been said, it wasn't new or innovative, but I lol'd at least 3 times watching it by myself. I thought the whole sperm bit was hilarious.
"To you Jeff, I leave this fine scotch... So that your less tempted to drink this cylinder of even finer sperm."
I can't help it. I thought that was the funniest thing this season.
-
hahaha sperm they said a naughty word so funny

sodoom

my humor is so sophisticate why are these plebs watching my show

Remember the monkey?!? They called it "Annie's boobs"!! omg I'm dying.. Like Annie, the character.. Her BOOBS aaaaaahahahaha

that doesnt' even make sense, where is enjoying anything required as a prerequisite for anything in this example

I don't follow Community fan-forums or Reddits or watch Cougar Town like you guys do. >:[ If it wasn't posted in the FES Community thread, I can't have seen it.
-
I never saw it before Snupes. Thanks for posting.
-
This episode was good but had far too much crammed into it. Nathan Fillion didn't do anything, and they brought whatsername back just to please the fans.
-
I thought that episode was awesome. The little easter egg about Troy was cool too, I hope the rest of the episodes kind of chronicle what he's doing like that. :D
I was a little disappointed with Abed's end turnout there, I was hoping (highlight for spoiler): the girl would have faked the 'spoiler' and told Abed afterwards since Britta couldn't understand her anyway, 'cause I've never particularly felt anything towards that girl he ended up having dinner with.
-
Well, that's another season gone. I liked the finale, it wasn't over the top or silly. Definitely a step up from season 4.
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! (http://tvline.com/2014/05/09/community-cancelled-nbc-season-6/)

I kind of stopped watching this after the lava episode. I'm not sure why.

It's your fault it got cancelled!

This is the darkest timeline.

It should have been cancelled after the third season.

No Saddam.

No Saddam, it should have been cancelled after the second season.

Incorrect, it should have been cancelled after this season. It was worth getting a good season of the show

Am I the only one that wants a 6th season and a movie?

These optimistic bastards are trying to get Netflix to partner with Sony and purchase community. I guess if you're American it might be worth a shot.

No you didn't. People still genuinely think the show has a future. Nothing has been ruled out yet, although it is looking like it's over as more time passes.

http://www.tvguide.com/News/Community-Hulu-Sixth-Season-1082325.aspx
Any news should be good news, but...eh...I'm not sure I like this deal as much. :[ Hulu is terrible as far as I've used it, and by now I no longer have any sort of subscription for it and, as much as I love Community, I'm not about to subscribe again just for one show...
-
I'd happily get a Hulu+ sub if they bring Community to Hulu. I was going to get a Roku 3 and DNS service for Netflix soon anyway.

Rest easy, 'Big Bang Theory.' Look out, 'Bang Bus!"
QOTY
That is really awesome news. I was almost ready to give up.
Yahoo though? ???
-
I was just thinking about all the optimistic idiots today when I was working. People were whinging and moaning that the cast's contracts had expired just yesterday and that Community was officially dead, I considered it dead when Hulu said it wasn't picking it up.
This is really good news. Looks like the meteor is going to miss us!

Air date confirmed March 17.
-
It's back.
-
Episode one was pretty damn great. I laughed pretty hard at "fifth time's the charm" and a few other bits. I don't know if it's because I haven't watched Community in forever or because it's really good, but I really enjoyed it. Episode two seemed like it wasn't going to be so good, but it actually turned out to be pretty great. I'm actually really glad Community is back, because no other show manages to make me laugh in quite the same way that it does. Even Frankie is a much better addition than I initially expected.
-
Those are pretty much my thoughts too. Also, Nathan Fillion.
-
Last episode was great, loved the Dan Harmon bit at the end. I doubt any fan of the show could get through that episode without tearing up.
Don't know how a movie is placed, but I doubt Yahoo has the cash to throw at one. Hopefully it happens, but I don't think it's likely.
