Title: Proof?
Post by: RoundEarthedFellow on November 20, 2017, 11:48:01 AM
Hey all,
I was just wondering if some FEs could explain to me why they believe in the Flat Earth model, and what- if any- proof they have of any claims regarding the operations of this world model.
Many thanks.

To prevent repetitive postings: Search the forum, and refer to the WIKI (https://wiki.tfes.org/The_Flat_Earth_Wiki)

I have checked the wiki- it doesn't contain a shred of proof or evidence, only makes claims to explain what the average Flat Earther's beliefs are. That's fine and all, but I want to hear from people WHY they believe these claims- matter of personal opinion- and what EVIDENCE they have for them- factual or scientific information.
I haven't found either of these on the forums so far. I've found plenty of arguments claiming to have evidence against RE, but none proposing evidence for FE which is what interests me.

Did you try this page: Experimental Evidence (https://wiki.tfes.org/Experimental_Evidence)

On there, it lists a few things plus links to other websites with info.

A lot of the "proof" FE will give is simply empirical evidence of "Earth looks flat from my perspective, therefore it must be flat." Any further evidence as to the actual physics, shape, or map of the "Plane Earth" comes up wanting.

Good luck on your quest though.

The most oft repeated 'proof' for a flat Earth is simply "It looks flat to me" which is only as strong as the person looking at it allows it to be really. The Bedford Level experiment is also oft cited, but it and the many other laser videos out on YouTube have issues simply due to being so close to water. The Bedford in particular has resulted in no less than 3 different claims by 3 different people.

In general most of the explanations for the mechanisms simply boils down to "The Earth is flat, and X happens, so clearly Y must be true" using Y to explain X. Digging any deeper usually yields "We don't know" as the answer. Which in general is fine, but FE gets there rather quickly.

See, my main problem with this is that it is entirely a circular argument. You can't prove that the Earth is flat- or come up with evidence to support the Earth being flat- by starting "the Earth is flat, therefore..."; you can't support a conclusion using that very same conclusion as a premise. And then of course, the "it looks flat" is just plain ridiculous. I'm hoping I can find someone who can provide me at least a slightly more compelling case. A man can dream!
I'll check out the Experimental Evidence page, though. Perhaps that will be more enlightening.

If you're looking for proof, you're wasting your time. It doesn't exist. As you've noticed, the Wiki is full of unsupported statements. That's as good as it gets. FE requires that we buy into some grand conspiracy that all images from space are faked. Still trying to figure out how that helps the conspirators.
