Title: Request: Rules Should be Amended to Allow Emoticons
Post by: Particle Person on October 31, 2015, 03:53:16 AM
I just received a warning for posting a polite message accompanied with '8=D', which is clearly an enthusiastic smiling face. The offending moderator is, unsurprisingly, Rushy.

I didn't warn you for the emoticon, I warned you because the post was made to provoke a response (like the one you're receiving now), which fits the definition of trolling. Your post was in no way attempting to create any real discussion regarding the topic. Notice that you were warned for low content posting/trolling, not offensive material.

Incorrect. I was making a serious point. I'll spell it out: not allowing ASCII 'porn' in the casual fora is really dumb.

There are hundreds of ways you could have made that point, including in the manner you are doing now, that didn't involve posting nonsense here.

Since when is "trolling" against the rules?

That's just what FES needs. A pedantic argument on what which words mean what to who and how they should define them. I'm starting to think we should have hired an international specialty lawyer to write our rules.

Not that I think trolling in S&C is fine, but Rushy had to infer a hell of a lot from what is ostensibly a simple "thanks" to arrive at the conclusion that he did. Personally I do not think moderation should involve making unnecessary assumptions about people or their intentions.

[10:46] <Blanko> Well, I can pay for electives in open university
[10:46] <Anastas> I just used subterfuge to sneak ASCII porn into S&C right under the mods' noses
[10:46] <Blanko> But unlike you I don't actually want to study irrelevant fields
[10:46] <Anastas> Those idiots will never know hahahahaha

Given that we have a well-established precedent for not randomly warning people for things they have done off-site, could you please stop now?

Is this the thread where we post things that are completely irrelevant to the OP? That's a fun game I can get on board with.

I'm assuming the rules have been amended since there are numerous ASCII penises located within this thread:  http://forum.tfes.org/index.php?topic=3719.0

This is great!  A lot of progress has been made since my unfair ban.

The rules never needed changing since ASCII dicks were never forbidden. Rushy was just a bit silly when dealing with you. Let's rejoice in him no longer being a bit silly.

Are you saying he finally was stripped of his abusive modding powers?   :D

I will append a big /S to my comments whenever I use sarcasm around Rushy from now on.

Given that the rules don't restrict what is in the OP, I am locking this thread.
