Wiki - all sorted.
« on: December 01, 2013, 05:03:04 PM »
http://wiki.theflatearthsociety.sjm.so

This contains all pages and images from the .org version (which is currently dead, go figure). Users should be allowed to register freely. This may change in the future if people decide to be irresponsible about it.

One of my vague ideas about improving things is to better integrate the forum and the wiki, but for the time being having them accessible and discoverable is sufficient. I've added a link under Flat Earth Discussion Boards to the new wiki, so you don't have to remember the URL.

Can you change the symbol thingy? It sticks out like a sore thumb. Or add it in its own section, like wiki and concerns or something. Or maybe put it in the menu bar overhead, next to members.
NOTHING TO SEE HERE. IGNORE RAMA SET.

Or, if people do misuse it, you could have:

Wiki
 - Redirect to wiki
 - Wiki suggestions and concerns
 - Wiki edits (where people can suggest changes to editors)
NOTHING TO SEE HERE. IGNORE RAMA SET.

It sticks out because it's a link and not a forum. I don't think it's that big a deal; and like I said, this is temporary until I work out a sensible way of integrating them better. This is just so we have an easily visible link to the wiki in the short term.

If the icon is really bothering you, you can AdBlock it for now.

That's fair enough.

Can you add a visible link to the wiki on the forum page? Even if is an extra button next to log out or a link in the welcome message?

Ahh, see the link. That's so much better.

I've started up a History page for the wiki.  So far all that's on it is an overview of what was on Wikipedia, and there's a lot more to be added, so anyone that can contribute please do so.
I don't even care to find out what you're doing wrong, but I'm sure you're doing something wrong.

I renamed that to Flat Earth Society instead, because we already have a couple of links to that in other pages. Might as well fill in a gap.

Noted.  If anyone wants to add more specifics to the page please do so.  I tried to not plagiarize wikipedia as well as omit personal details about historical figures that didn't pertain to the history of the FES.

EDIT:  The .org wiki now returns a 404 error.

Yeah. Based on my conversations with Daniel back when I was trying to relaunch the Wiki in 2011(?), he told me he doesn't care about the Wiki and that it can be my project if I want to. I'm guessing he cared so little that he forgot to even move it to the new server.

Luckily, we noticed in time and backed everything up when the old server was still running.

Also, should someone create the page for Aetheric Wind Model or is what we have in Aetheric Whirlpool sufficient?

The .org admins dun it again.  Now Tom's thread on FE literature, which was what the wiki page on the topic linked to, has been erased.

Welp, apparently spambots already know about us. I disabled user registration for the time being while I look into a solution. In the meantime, anyone interested in editing can request an account via PM. I do not intend to refuse anyone access, this is just to stop bots.

Hopefully I'll be able to look into something similar to the plugin we use for the forum tonight or tomorrow, so this should be a very temporary hindrance.

I don't like that the wiki is one way.

Can you make it so there is a very obvious link on the main page back to the home page of the site? We want people to come back after we told them to lurk moar, after all. :D

I added a link to the home page to the left-hand-side navigation bar
