Flat Earth Theory / Re: Has anyone ever flown a plane across Antarctica?

2.  Why can neither you or any other FES provide any proof at all that the world is flat?

Because there isn't a need. It's not a science based model There is no science behind it. It's a believe model, and as such can't be scientifically tested. Obviously it will fail every single test.

But so does religion, and I believe in religious freedom (as long as you don't in-convince or harm others). Christians do not need scientific proof that Adam & Eva existed, or why type of snakes where around at that time. What benefit or satisfaction you get when you tell a kid that Santa doesn't exist?

BTW, Lightsail 2 (does not belong to NASA) is in a 720Km high orbit (is that withing the dome?) and did sent some images back to earth. When you look very closely (you may use a ruler) you will notice a slight curve. Could be the optic of course, those tricky mustards.

Flat Earth Community / Re: Van Allen Radiation Belt

6. One of the articles said Allen Radiation Belt is 100 billion times more effective then hiroshima.

What does it mean? Hiroshima is a city in Japan. What means more effective in this context? They don't mean the nuclear bombs, or? That would be rather silly. It's a different type of radiation and the Van Allen Belt has no pressure or heat impact.

Muslims have given example from a book written 1500 years ago

I don't think there anything useful in that book that helps with this topic.

I have doubts in that story.

Firstly, it was 1969 technology, I have doubts that a smaller UK observatory had too much technical possibilities during that time.

And further, the telemetry data that went back and forth was readable by everybody with the right equipment that wanted to listen to it anyway. I doubt that being in a moon orbit would have given them any advantage.

I can not find the flight patch track, where did you get it online?

I saw it at the time on flightaware or one of those sites. I would love to see it plotted on a globe, or disk if you want. Please post if anybody finds one.

Not sure that was already posted, there is a record breaking round the globe pole to pole flight going on right now. They use a Gulfstream G650ER ultra long-range jet.

https://www.onemoreorbit.com

They have a live feed too (still in the air as I type):

I found the flight path on flightaware:

15 or so years ago I saw "Murata Boy" live in action at an exhibition. It a self-balancing robot on a bicycle. The robot was about teenager size I would say. Gyro-sensors where not so common then, quite breathtaking to see that live. Technology now is much further.

EDIT - fixed broken video link. ~junker

International Space Station CGI FAIL

Original footage posted by the ESA (starting at 11:15): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsITRfKhgSU

Thanks for posting a link to the original video from original source. Some of the videos here are heavily edited, have scenes put in, and look like they reduced the resolution a lot. There are quite a lot original 4K and 8K videos out there.

The fixed CCTV cameras go totally black at night. I guess their sensitivity isn't that good or they use a fixed ISO. I was curious about that and investigated a little, purpose isn't really to get stunning night scenes, more like that it's easier to see the effects radiation has on the camera sensors.

But that video above it said to be a personal video through the window when there was something to see. Most likely highly overexposed, and the camera gear must 10+ years old, the video was posted in 2009. So it's not stars on earth.

BTW, that channel doesn't have many ISS videos.

1. If the world is really flat, what is the purpose of telling everyone it's round?

I wondered about that before. Mark Sargent like to bring that point up a lot. But if the Earth is flat and there is no space, how does the Van Allen Belt fit in? It wouldn't matter, would it? With no space travel there wouldn't be that problem.

I found this short video that explains the Van Allen Belt quite well, talks about the type of radiation, and how to shield it, and the effect on humans.

Flat Earth Projects / Re: Wiki: Keyworth quite source needed

If Congress is not maintaining their records proplerly you should complain to your congressman, not us.

The point of a WIKI is to have all the facts at your fingertips. If you have no source, and the information is dubious, then just remove it.

In this case it either looks like it's either plain wrong, or gravely out of context.

Flat Earth Projects / Wiki: Keyworth quote source needed
« on: April 30, 2019, 03:09:11 AM »
I was browsing through the WIKI and saw this quote:

Evidence for the Conspiracy
"All government agencies lie part of the time, but NASA is the only one I've ever encountered that does so routinely."
â€”George A. Keyworth, Science Advisor to President Regan in testimony before Congress, March 14, 1985

Source is mentioned as testimony before Congress, March 14, 1985, but I can't find any public records. There was one in February 1985 ( https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED257667.pdf ) where NASA was a topic. But the controversy was about NASA funding (the Reagan gov. seemed not so interested in manned space travel) and not about any science related issue.

IMHO it would make sense to add a source, or if it's really just funding related just remove the quote as it would then be out of context.

To get roughly near, some cameras have a level display. For example Sony A7, A7r etc. Very useful when you take landscape images.

Flat Earth Community / Re: eye level flat horizon at 120,000 feet
« on: April 14, 2019, 07:04:24 AM »
although i would say at the moment im in the globe earths corner,i still dont get why theres videos on youtube showing balloons being sent upto 120,000 feet and theres no curve there.if any round earther can explain this i would be grateful.

Sorry for digging up this old post as a newcomer, but I see the flat/curved discussion pretty often going on in other topics.

Of course you will see a curved horizon. If not, look closer. But you will see a curved horizon anyway, no matter you are on a globe or disk. Unless you are on a square rectangular earth.

But maybe we can ask the guys below to add a little action cam as payload. They always have a Gopro, which IMHO is really good, but the lens is not so suitable. They use very wide angle lenses (I think around 7mm or so), you can easily replace them with some sort of more normal lens, like 15-20mm M12 lens. No need for an expensive Gopro, a cheap China clone has good image quality too.

Flat Earth Investigations / Re: Every map of China is wrong
« on: April 14, 2019, 06:10:45 AM »
Google maps have an offset in China by a few 100m. Therefore I rarely use Google maps in China (plus the international google maps is as all google service in China blocked and you need to use the local one ditu.google.cn - or a VPN). When in China I mainly use Baidu Maps at map.baidu.com or map.baidu.cn - in theory, practically I use the Baidu maps Android app, which is really accurate by a few meters.

BTW, what is not accurate is google maps - the google satellite images are accurate. Therefore the two don't match. You can check that easily yourself.
