Technology & Information / Re: Cameras

It does everything I need but I barely use it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Send it to me.

Did you get the r6? If so I’m jealous. And what sold you on the r6 instead of the r5?

 I still have my 5d which I truly adore. For glass I have 100-400 f/4.5-5.6, 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.8, and my everyday 24-105 f/4.

Did you get a new lens or are you using the adapter for EF’s?

Yeah, I got the R6 over the R5 pretty much only for cost reasons. The boost in megapixels would have been nice, but $4k for a camera is a little too much. The 5D and its subsequent revisions are all still incredible cameras. And those lenses will work flawlessly adapted to an R mount camera if you ever decide to get one. I've used the 100-400mm and 85mm f/1.8 adapted to the R6 and they all work as if they were natively mounted. Even better really, since they can take advantage of the improved autofocus capability of a mirrorless camera. As for native lenses, I only have the RF 35mm f/1.8 right now since the cost of Canon RF lenses is absolutely nuts (albeit with improved image quality across the board over their EF counterparts). I actually considered switching to Sony and an a7IV recently just because the E mount has so much 3rd party support, including Sigma's incredible line of affordable lenses. But rumors have it that  Sigma will finally be developing RF lenses next year, so I guess I'll stick with Canon for now. Next lens purchase will probably be the RF 16mm f/2.8.

If you wanted to just try out mirrorless before dumping a bunch of cash on an R6 or R5, you could go with an RP. It's tiny for a full frame camera and very affordable with incredible ergonomics. Canon should have another cheaper RF camera coming out soon too, hopefully with similar specs to Nikon's Z 5.

I got my 14-inch MacBook Pro today and it is unironically the best thing I have ever purchased.

Is there any chance we can move this out of 'Technology & Information" and into a board called "Anoraks"?

^This? This is the most underwhelming keyboard I have ever seen. Its not even backlit. How are you going to find the prt sc button in the dark? Looks like something Hewlett Packard would have bundled with a 486. I'm guessing it doesn't match your black bezeled monitor, your desk, your mouse or anything else.

>he looks at his keyboard when he types

More importantly, it's the best keyboard I've ever used as far as actual typing goes. There are a lot of color options, but I liked this one because it looks like something Hewlett Packard would have bundled with a 486.

Just got a new keyboard and it's hella lit. It's the Leopold FC750R PD with Cherry MX silent red switches. I went for the old 1980s beige color. What's your favorite keyboard?

I just had to take the LPI Linux Essentials test for a class. Should I put that on my resume or nah?
IMO it depends on who's looking at your CV. A random HR drone might not know any better and just count whatever exams you've listed. A technically-minded person will be more impressed if you say you can cook.

Yeah, it wasn't that difficult, even for someone with hardly any linux background. Although, since I don't have any paid IT experience, my thinking is that the benefit it would provide on a resume is greater than 0.

I have a friend who has to reinstall his linux distro every year.
Because it sucks balls.

That just sounds like user error. Most web servers and IoT devices run on Linux. I reinstall Windows from time to time, but that's because I have random shit all over the place that I don't want to manually clean up. That's not the fault of the OS.

I'm using Ubuntu with the Plasma desktop environment. Shit's kind of cash.

Ok it's not cash. I realize the GUI is kind of an afterthought in Linux, but this looks like they picked a random person shopping at Walmart to design it.
Imagine installing bloated shitware and then complaining that you're using bloated shitware.

How am I supposed to know that beforehand? Usually people learn by trying things.

Just passed the Net+ but I was shitting my pants for a few hours before the start time. I studied circuit switched networks for hours and didn't see a single question on it.

* fist bump*

I want to take Security Plus but I'm sure I need to be in to network plus before I try it.

Microsoft has virtual server ISOs ( trial copies) for free download. I'm looking at setting one up in virtualbox to practice on.  I'm guessing that Active Directory is all over the network plus test and I hardly ever use it in my real life.

Not sure exactly what’s on the Sec+, but I’m guessing it’s vendor neutral just like Net+. Like Junker said, there’s no AD at all. I’m assuming Sec+ has some Net overlap so I’d probably do that first. Seems kind of useless to know about security operations without first having at least a broad overview of how networks work.

Now forget about 99% of N+ and learn some core routing and switching (Cisco is decent for this, just ignore all their proprietary shit like HSRP and EIGRP). Then move straight to AWS and work on Solutions Architect and Advanced Networking. Learn Python while doing the above so you can automate anything on-prem. Lastly, send me a bottle of top-shelf bourbon when you are raking in $200K+/yr after following the aforementioned advice.

That’s almost exactly what I had planned out except for Cisco. And I didn’t know IT salaries went that high.
