Philosophy, Religion & Society / Re: What Religion are you?
« on: December 02, 2013, 09:21:51 PM »
I understand this may be nit-picky, but "Atheist" isn't a religion. It's the lack of a religion, if anything.

A religion is a set of beliefs about reality. You don't have to believe in God to be religious. I think atheism entails a particular set of beliefs about reality and it therefore can be defined as a religion.

Religions have holy texts, and a system of belief. Atheism has none of that, it's just the lack of belief in a God.

The God Delusion and the belief that gods are the product of man's imagination.

Atheism still isn't a religion though.

Yeah, this is all very fun, but of course they'd be shot down and contents removed. Sadly this is just a smoke screen by Amazon marketing to hide the real story of the day.

They've been trying to cheat on their taxes again.

They could just use it in a country that isn't filled with 2nd amendment gun nuts.
They have to come down to ground level to deliver. We can still buy baseball bats.

Fantastic, we don't have baseball.
Golf clubs also work.

boring, idiotic and just-plain-bad.

This sounds like the Carrie remake.  Every character in that movie was an idiot imo.

Make it like the FAQ.  A locked sticky which the admins, mods, and OP can edit, and a thread in S&C for suggestions on what needs changing.

This is a good list.  Thork, you should make a thread for this and then edit it as needed.

Flat Earth Community / Re: Motive Behind the Conspiracy

I voted other.  While the Moon Landing Hoax is a part of it, I think it has more to do with the powerful nations which were involved in the Cold War and the Space Race.  Their space programs didn't know at first that Earth was flat when they faked their missions.  Now they probably do know, but admitting to the series of hoaxes (including but not limited to the Moon Landing) would be a PR disaster.  Nations which developed space agencies after the Cold War have probably been secretly threatened by the powerful nations to keep quiet or face the consequences.

Some of them are probably fake. Assuming they are, I imagine we could ask George Lucas about how Star Wars were made.
Considering he's a Flat Earther himself, he probably would be a great source to tell us how RE fakes photos.

You know the deal: post about a film or series you have seen recently.

12 Angry Men (Sidney Lumet)

This film is widely regarded as an American classic anyway, so there's really nothing for me to say that hasn't already been said. It has a great script, tight direction and excellent performances, and is surely one of the best directorial debut features of all-time.

One of the few good movies I've actually seen.  It's a great example that a solid script and dialogue can make a great movie without the need for action-packed scenes of kissy-kissy romantic side stories.

There was a '97 remake that I haven't seen.  I wonder if it's as good as the '57 version.

Never mind, I just found out.  That's really splitting hairs there (especially imo since I'm somewhat a mix of the two). :S

Can you link us some of these articles?  I haven't heard about this, but from what you stated this sounds like a pretty interesting case.

Going ahead and sending a pm to every active member I can think of who hasn't registered here yet.  Except the admins.  Should I invite the old admins like Jack and Wilmore?

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Re: Which Economic System is Best?
« on: December 02, 2013, 05:22:45 AM »
Best for what? For smart people? For stupid people? Or even worse, actual people?! If people were intelligent, a completely free market would self regulate in a very effective way.

Since a nation's economy is mostly predicated on its government, the question is basically "Which governing system is best?"

The answer to that question is anarchy. Again, that's only if people are smart. The dumber people are, the more government is necessary.

I suppose the question is geared towards practicality.  Which is most practical in reality?

I'm thinking of pm'ing members that haven't registered on this site yet to come here.  Is that too spammy?  I currently stand poised to send about a dozen different users a pm for this site.

Noted.  If anyone wants to add more specifics to the page please do so.  I tried to not plagiarize wikipedia as well as omit personal details about historical figures that didn't pertain to the history of the FES.

EDIT:  The .org wiki now returns a 404 error.
