My input on the Constitution and council:

Am I allowed to post on this forum so long as I don't act like a dick?
If yes then I don't care about anything else.
That's our remit, not theirs. The answer, however, is yes.

rottingroom sounds like he is drunk again.  Don't worry people, he can't actually hurt anyone.
Please refrain from ad hominem attacks in the upper forums.  It's especially poor form for a mod.
I have to agree. Please tone it down.

Define "new atheists".

That sounds preferable to having the energy go to waste.

I even saw a family turn their relative into energy, store him on a battery and powered a little light bulb in some kind of memorial thing.

You can't just wait for input forever. Make a draft and show it to others for discussion.

As I said, I was expecting more people to actually give some input on the council. I'd like to have a more concrete idea of our role, responsibilities, rights, etc. before saying something official.
To my understanding, writing a constitution was supposed to be the first task of the Council, but this is being ignored for some reason.

I'll do it. I'm not expecting to have any classes tomorrow anyway, because snow. I'll post it here for peer edit.
Any progress on that? The news is becoming somewhat stale by now.

Right, so you're complaining about the Wiki and talking about stuff that you'd like to show people, which should logically belong to the Wiki. Have you considered contributing to the Wiki?

This thread has long run its course, and apparently people can't resist the temptation of spamming here. Locking.

Technology & Information / Re: Windows 8.1 update
« on: January 11, 2014, 05:31:13 PM »
I bought a new laptop yesterday, and decided to give Windows 8.1 a try (the machine came with Windows 8). I did not encounter Thork's problem, but fuck, that was the most ridiculous upgrade procedure I've seen in my life.

First of all, the upgrade file is 3.6GB. Just... what. Seriously, what. If the upgrade fails for whatever reason (not like it'll tell you the reason anyway), the temp files are deleted. Super helpful, thanks Windows.

Oh, and it failed 3 times. Because why not?

Anyway, eventually it didn't fail, or rather it failed less massively. It then proceeded to show me unmoving progress bars with helpful descriptions of what's currently going on. Examples include:
  • Preparing upgrade
  • Making changes
  • Getting info
  • Finishing up a few things
  • Taking care of a few things

Oh, and the successful upgrade itself took 2 hours and a half, not including download times.

Why is everyone in the Zetetic Council board showing up as Moderators?
Well, that would be because they are moderators of that board. I'm not entirely sure what you expected my answer to be.

Perhaps a clarification of their permissions profile will be of help: Within that board only, they have privileges that are slightly higher than those of regular users in other boards. For example, they can sticky/unsticky threads, move their own topics from that board to other boards, or add polls to threads.

Technology & Information / Re: New Chrome update question
« on: January 09, 2014, 01:42:32 AM »
Change browsers. Chrome is the new IE - the seemingly most popular browser on the market that shits all over any and all standards.

If you insist on using Chrome, I believe their scrolling was always chunky. Perhaps you used to have an extension to change that and that got deleted somehow? Something along the lines of this?

Are members suppose to be able to sticky threads in the Zetetic Council board?
Gah. Fixed.

Also, should I be able to vote in polls in that section? Because I totes did.
Uh oh, fixed.

It has come to my attention that any non-council member can vote in these polls, making the poll invalid. We will have to manually post our vote.
Sorry, this has now been rectified. Only councilors have voting privileges now.
