Flat Earth Theory / Re: Satellites
« on: March 18, 2014, 01:07:19 PM »
Meanwhile, we know that satellites provide us with communications, and have done for many years.
You have yet to substantiate that.

Why is it that RE'ers are obligated to show why FET doesn't work but FE'ers aren't obligated show why FET does work?  Seriously, how can Inquisitive properly refute Thork's ionospheric skip proposal when Thork did not provide a workable proposal to refute?
He can't, and I'm not asking for that. I'm asking that he substantiates his own claims. Thork at least made a sloppy attempt.

Funny that is what I was accusing you of!
Yes, good thing I called you out on it. Anyway, please stop derailing this thread. Feel free to continue trying to trip me up via PM if you so desire.

How about you come up with a proposal using the ionosphere and show how it would work. With enough design details for review.
Why are you so afraid of backing up your claims? C'mon, pick one and write about it in more than one sentence. You can do it, inquisitive. I believe in you. You can finally prove that you're not a complete waste of time to all of us!

I did not miss any context.
I didn't say you missed it, merely that you skipped it. I accused you of malice, not stupidity.

It would not work.
Substantiate this claim.

Do you not know?  Basic maths.
Show your working and elaborate on the answer (well, once you presented it).

I'm glad that you noticed my mockery of him. Too bad you skipped out on the context and my previous remarks.

Thork needs to explain how it would work via skywaves, in detail.
That may well be so, but that does not mean you can carry on not explaining your own views. Hold yourself to your own standards first.

What do you mean?
I mean that if you have a specific objection, you need to voice it. Otherwise, no one will take you seriously, and you're unlikely to see any replies that involve actual effort.

People aren't going to guess what you mean by saying "Nope, this won't work because variable distance lol". If you have something to say, just say it.

Variable distance.
Use you words, inquisitive. Say what you mean, no one's gonna waste time trying to guess.

Bouncing off the sky would not give that.
Why do you think that?

That's what a circular orbit looks like when projected onto a mercator style map.  On the flat earth map that wave type pattern just becomes a circle above the earth, just as it does around a spherical earth.  I'm at work right now or I'd whip up a graphic for you.
Crude as hell, but here you go:

It's a bit epicyclic, but that's to be expected.

Suggestions & Concerns / Re: Previous/next page buttons please
« on: March 15, 2014, 11:00:12 AM »
Well, that was already an option. Apparently, SMF has two modes of displaying page links:

  • one that displays an untruncated list of all pages with arrows, e.g. « 1 2 3 4 5 »
  • one that tries to truncate the pages like 1 ... 5 and has no arrows

The truncating behaviour breaks for people who don't have JavaScript enabled, so I consider getting rid of this to be a benefit. Then again, it might get problematic with very long threads. We'll see how it works, and if it gets annoying, I'll look at hacking the two modes together. For the time being, the little arrows will now take you back and forth.

EDIT: I just realised how terrible this will be if a thread/board grows too much. Definitely just a temporary solution.
I think I managed to solve this. Pages should now truncate while still having the «/» arrows. While I'm reasonably confident that this code works, please let me know if you notice any strange behaviour.

Out of curiosity, do people think that « and » is a good way to mark these buttons? Should they be more visible? This is what they look like right now:

And here's an example of how they could be bigger and clearer:

Or we could make them images. I don't know if there's even a demand for that idea, but if there is, I'm open to suggestions. :)

Keep in mind that it's essentially impossible to make private messages hard for admins to read without requiring the users to share some type of encryption key or password through other means than this forum (which we would necessarily have to have no control over). If someone implemented encryption but the keys were stored on the server, we could just use them to decrypt your messages.

The same goes for any other communication platform where messages are stored on the server, including Facebook and your GMail account.

Or is that too much to hope for from the management?  ::)
You may have missed that (although I'd be surprised, given that you were involved in the discussion), but forum staff are held to the same standards as any other poster, not higher.

Perhaps if you were to reply with meaningful responses, rather than with vague, one word answers, then there might not be so much confusion and the discussion could proceed in a productive manner.
I'm very sorry that you feel that way. My post was pretty clear, and if you don't know what "nope" means, well, that's your problem, not mine.

Basic maths tells us that it would not be possible to put 10 capital cities of the world on a flat scale map and maintain the actual distances between each one.
You're more than welcome to demonstrate that. So far, all you've contributed to this forum is a bunch of unsubstantiated claims and straw man attacks. Don't expect people to take you seriously.

Science & Alternative Science / Re: Anthropogenic Climate Change

Wasn't it just a few decades ago that scientists knew conclusively that we were heading towards another ice age?
Yup, global cooling was all the rage in the 1970s and 1980s. Then they decided that the Earth isn't cooling up, but instead warming up. When people started asking about it, they said that an impending ice age is fully compatible with global warming.

There is much more to this matter...
I do agree that, to some extent, this was probably planned and is part of a larger plan. However, I do not see how Tomlinson is relevant. Could you clarify?
