Technology & Information / Re: Linux in weird/awesome places
« on: April 01, 2014, 07:38:32 PM »
they should have showed it on a desktop or laptop that would have been the weirdest because no one uses linux lol
ehehehehehe

I saw Lunix on an in-flight entertainment system. It was failing to boot for a long time so I was able to watch Tux in front of fast-scrolling terminal stuff for 15 minutes. Needless to say, I was very entertained.

Then it booted and the actual in-flight entertainment was shit. :(

Suggestions & Concerns / Spoiler tags
« on: March 30, 2014, 07:20:37 PM »
Also, do we have working spoiler tags here, and if not, can we get some? I don't personally care about spoilers, but others do.
I just remembered seeing this and realised we don't have a thread about that here.

I have a solution that's almost ready for deployment. What do people think about this format?

A spoiler by default appears as black text on black background. If you have JavaScript enabled (most users), you can uncover it by clicking on the spoiler. Alternatively (and this will work without JavaScript too), you can highlight the relevant portion of the text.

I'm not quite certain how well this would work on mobile devices [EDIT: Apparently it works perfectly fine. I can tap the spoiler to show/hide it], but if people like the idea, I could probably get this finished soon.

What hair styles are approved for people over 30?
A cursory Google image search for "old North Korean man" resulted mostly in pictures of Kim Jong-un. I suspect that it's illegal to be old in North Korea.

But of course, you wouldn't know that.
Why wouldn't he?

It boggles my mind that anyone would build a router when they are so cheap.
But the same could be said about many other DIY endeavours. I once made a desk with my dad, even though we could have easily just bought one cheaper than what we ended up making. It was good fun.

Is fulfilling one's hobby not reason enough?

Looks like Putin is beginning to understand that the West isn't cool with him randomly invading countries.

Again? Damn it, I don't want 'mericans to beef up airport security again :(

Wasn't there a program aired a while ago called something like "Let's all cut our hair in a manner which glorifies socialism' or something?
Yup.

I have installed OpenBSD 5.4 on my new home router. Next up, I need to configure it to be a router.
How did you manage to install OpenBSD 5.4 on something that doesn't exist yet?

I dunno what the moral difference is between wishing people to burn in hell and being Fred Phelps.
Well, Fred didn't wish for anyone to suffer, he was just very vocal about his belief that they are going to suffer unless they change their ungodly views.

Excuse the uploader's shitty editing.

You'll notice from the alleged choice of 10 men's, Kim Jong's isn't even on it.
Well, that list (or variations thereof) comes from before Kim Jong-un's times, so it makes sense he wouldn't be on it. It makes sense he'd want to change things to avoid changing his own hairstyle.

It seems that the world's favorite dictator's haircut, known as the Chinese smuggler haircut, is now going to be enforced by the fashion police. Literally. They already had a list of approved hair styles and a TV show to name and shame those who don't comply, but now things are getting entirely too silly... or are they?

There is some debate regarding the authenticity of this story. Some media suggest that it's very unlikely, while others seem to state it as factual. Some talk about all men having to follow the new rules, others say it's only aimed at students.

Regardless of who is right, this story is a great example of Poe's Law in action. North Korea is so controversial in its policies that it's basically impossible to be sure one way or another.

Well done, KJU, for confusing the international media so hard. Well done indeed!

Poe's Law requires that I don't.
But that makes it harder for me to play the troll/sarcasm card whenever convenient. :(

I can only hope that although you're being facetious that you are also being sarcastic.
Surely you know me well enough to do more than just hope that.

As long as I don't sell more than 36K in bitcoin capital gains each year I can get away with 0% taxes. That means I could live the rest of my life on 36K a year and never have to pay any form of income taxes (assuming the tax rate doesn't change). Like I said, good news for me, I can easily live on 36k a year until I get out of college.
