I'm surprised this hasn't been brought up on the forums.
For those in America who don't realise there are countries outside of the USA, Michael Schumacher is the greatest Formula 1 driver of all time. He was always my favourite driver as I grew up.
Anyway, he had a skiing accident a few weeks ago and is now in a coma. Its not looking very good. Doctors think he may never be able to talk or move again, and he may just be trapped in his own body. Poor guy.
I wonder if this will be more far-reaching as his plight continues. He was a very active guy and I don't think he'd want to spend his life with locked in syndrome or worse, in a persistent vegetative state. I suspect (Thork's prediction coming up) that this will completely reopen the right to die issues we have in Europe and his being so famous will make it a landmark case with permanent repercussions as his family go to the European Court of Human Rights.
I'd like to be wrong and see him make a full recovery, but I'm not reading any reports that suggest this might be the case.
Have Americans heard about this?
Does anyone think he'll be ok?
What do you think about the right to die?
