Flat Earth Theory / Re: In the bipolar map - what is around the edge?
« on: November 15, 2017, 10:07:23 PM »
It has just occurred to me that if there is both Antarctica AND an ice wall around the circumference of 'the earth', you could easily tell which way you were sailing because (can't think of rule will give example):

if you sailed until you came to an ice land then turned (say) left, sailing the circumference you'd be then going anticlockwise, if Antrctica, clockwise.

Keep this in mind, mariners.

Another map where Australia's size and shape is radically altered. Now it's about as big as Africa and the distance from Melbourne to Sydney is greater than the distance from Perth to Exmouth. No.

Its orientation is also radically altered, which would mean that Perth was in the tropics - it isn't, by simple noon sun observation.

Flat Earth Theory / Globe Earth works
« on: November 14, 2017, 12:00:04 PM »
Regardless of whether the earth is flat or a globe, the globular model works. NOTHING humans do on the assumption that the earth is a globe fails due to this assumption.

For the globular hypothesis to be discarded we'd need a superior model. FE doesn't seem to provide one - FE doesn't even have a map that makes sense of basic observations like travel times.

What is the point of telling us to discard a hypothesis that works beautifully when there's nothing to take its place?

Flat Earth Theory / The Conspiracy - why NASA?
« on: November 14, 2017, 11:38:03 AM »
The first satellite was launched by the USSR as was the first manned spaceflight. China has been to the moon and several other nations have space programmes.

So why is NASA blamed for creating and perpetuating the conspiravcy?

Flat Earth Theory / Re: Satellites
« on: November 14, 2017, 11:15:05 AM »
So, on the assumption that the existence of satellites and what we can observe from them on earth (flat or round) doesn't prove the matter either way, can you give me an explanation as to what keeps them up ?

That's the big question. Globular earth plus gravity gives a beautifully elegant explanation of why satellites stay up. What's the FE zexplanation?

I'm not saying that this minor detail being confirmed wrong disproves the entire flat earth theory, but I would like to know the answer to this hole in the theory.

There's an even simpler way to discredit the ice wall - plenty of people have circumnavigated Antarctica and it didn't take them anywhere near as long as it would have if the Antarctic coastline was as long as the world's circumference (not to mention their observations etc).

Flat Earth Theory / Re: Disproofs - a summary of progress so far.

The answer is easy.  Both the Sun and the Moon exert an influence on the waters of the flat Earth, thus there are two high tides each day since both the Sun and the Moon cross the dome once a day.   :D

But the moon and the sun don't cross on the same schedule every day, yet tides are very regular.

Flat Earth Theory / Simpler plane conundrum
« on: November 14, 2017, 10:28:59 AM »
I've flown between Melbourne (Aus) and London many times. I've flown between Melbourne and Johannesburg a number of times.

I know that the Johannesburg flight takes considerably less time than the London flight.

But the UN-style FE map shows that the distance to Johannesburg is considerably longer.

Why?
