Also I literally said how the sluggish slow movement encourages fast gameplay, like I actually stated all of that already
Then why is sluggish, slow movement a flaw?

Because you are not always allowed to go fast

Fighting games require you to defend and block often, meaning you are not constantly fighting. Do you have a problem with that too?

Shooters require you to reload and hide behind cover, meaning you're not constantly shooting. Do you have a problem with that too?

There are more examples, but you get the gist. Just because you have to stop and slow down sometimes doesn't mean the game is flawed.

Now you're probably going to bring up the marketing aspect, which I think is irrelevant. All video game marketing is exaggerated.

Uh ok but that's not what we're discussing please keep up

If those things were executed poorly in their respective games then yes I would have a problem with those too

Your opinion on why/how it is executed poorly is shaky. This is why I asked you to type up a list of grievances because I'm not entirely clear on your points. I think we have given you several examples as to why the levels are conducive to going fast. Certain parts in the levels require you to slow down, yes, but that's just a convention of the genre. If you have a problem with certain aspects of platformers as a whole I respect that (I do too), but to say that the entire game is flawed because you don't like having to slow down sometimes is silly. Believe it or not, there are people who don't mind having to slow down to catch a platform... maybe they're crazy, who knows.

Maybe nowadays Sega could make a better 2D Sonic game, since the hardware was limited back then... but I doubt it, considering they've tried and failed (I'm looking at you, Sonic 4).

m8 we're talking about controls, not levels

Also it's completely bullshit that a game has to use genre conventions

Every game follows some sort of genre convention.

The "I'm going to be vague so no one knows wtf I'm talking about" act is getting tiring.

Yes, but they typically use conventions that suit their games in particular

Genre conventions don't get a free pass when they don't fit the game as is the case with Sonic

Kind of like how ESO is an MMO, therefore it must be a themepark MMO?

Why do you think they should

If it's poorly implemented then it's bad, I don't see what else there is to it

No. Themepark MMO is more of a sub-genre anyways, not a convention. A convention would be something like leveling up or cool-downs.

Maybe I'm missing the point of this strawman.

Maybe I'm missing the point of this strawman.

I went to Skyrim. Everything was suddenly 30 levels higher than me. Undeterred, I snuck past everything and even managed to complete a quest without killing anything. I thought the exp gains would be wicked, but they were not. Although the areas are large, they still must be traversed in a very specific order, which really hurts the sense of exploration.

You do know that you're playing an MMO, right?

Themepark MMO's are a convention not a sub genre. Almost every MMO I've ever played follows a themepark model to some extent. Only exception is PS2 and that's because it's not an MMORPG.
