Yes, I like Dad rock. But its not really a genre I can search easily.
Post the best Dad Rock stuff. Each subsequent post has to be even more Dad Rock than the pervious until we have a Dad Rock anthem that cannot be beaten. :D

Yes, I like Dad rock. But its not really a genre I can search easily.
That's probably because it's more commonly referred to as Classic Rock.
-
Nah, all kinds of stuff gets thrown into the dad rock category. Pretty much anything with an electric guitar from the 70's or 80's

That's just what dads call it.

Classic rock is a radio format, not a genre itself.

Oh, fuck off. It's bad enough that every rock station in the world feels the need to play that garbage a dozen times a day; we don't need you posting it here as well.

That's why I try to post some of the less commonly played stuff.

The thread is calling for dad rock, not obscure classic rock that was not commerically successful (not that Led Zeppelin fits that category either). So perhaps you might fuck off. But kindly.

What's that song that song that's like DUN DUN - dun dUn DUN - dun dUn DUN - dun dUn DUN - DUN DUN (repeat)? It's been stuck in my head and I think it's a Zeppelin song.

Kashmir?

Not Kashmir. This is what the guitar riff sounds like:
http://vocaroo.com/i/s19xpHXP4emi
It's a super well known song, so I'm going to feel retarted when I remember.
-
Maybe this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF5gBT06FQ0
-
No. It sounds pretty much exactly like I played it. Maybe it isn't Zeppelin, but I remember a very Robert Plant-ish voice accompanying with some AaaaahaAAAAAaaaAh's
-
Is it this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3a7cHPy04s8
-
Harhar I was actually just about to say that it ISN'T Satisfaction, even though the riff is pretty similar. Either this song is far less well known than I thought or I completely made it up.
-
Immigrant Song?
-
No :(
-
It's probably Good Times, Bad Times.
-
No :(

???
-
No and no. I remember a portion of the lyrics being some like something something "the sad sad state we're in", or something. I can hear it very vividly.

I can't find a Led Zeppelin song with those words in that order or slightly rearranged. Anything else?
-
Me neither. I've listened to just about every hit Led Zeppelin song since this started bothering me two hours ago, so I really don't think it's them. I guess the Rolling Stones would be the second most likely candidate. It does sound a bit like Satisfaction, but it's a lot heavier. Did the Rolling Stones ever write a song that was a rip-off of their own song Satisfaction where Jagger did his best Robert Plant impression? Because that's the only other possibility.

Do you remember where you heard this song? This might help narrow down the possibilities. If it was like a gas station or something, then it was probably a well-known artist.
-
I've heard it like a billion times all over the world. It is definitely a well known song.
-
Is it this song?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tV6u97beANs
-
Yes. Wow, I really am retarted! I listen to Leon Russell all the time. I probably heard this song yesterday. Leon Russell and Led Zeppelin have the same number of syllables and both start with 'L', so that's my excuse.
-
karma plase and reddit gald

Unless... I'm remembering several songs at once. The actual melody I played isn't used in Stranger in a Strange Land.
Yes, I was actually just creating a sweet mash-up remix of Stranger and Jumpin' Jack Flash in my mind. There's so much dadrock in my mental library that I sometimes have to consolidate by combining songs, in order to save brain space. Thanks to some girl on Facebook, mystery solved.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQSGw0hMd_I
-
So it wasn't Leon Russell at all then? :'(
-
It was 1/3 Leon Russell. I was hearing Leon Russell's lyrics sung by Robert Plant over a Rolling Stones guitar riff. Like some sort of sick and twisted Dad Rock anthem. Memory is a funny thing.

The thread is calling for dad rock
Presumably good dadrock (that is one word, not two >o<), though. That's really my only issue here. I only mentioned how overplayed it is simply because it's utterly unworthy of its exposure. Boston is and always has been a commercial act. It wasn't about making good music for them, it was about making money. Pretty much every negative stereotype that people have about arena rock can be attributed at least in large part to those corporate stooges and their slick, overpolished, factory-produced tripe.
-
Presumably good dadrock ...
subjective
-
Nobody in the world thinks that Boston is good. I bet the radio stations are getting paid to play them as much as possible.
Also, I should have recognized the riff of "Jumpin Jack Flash." I would have if it had been played on guitar, but that's no excuse. I'm going to go hang my head in shame now.
-

Boston's More Than a Feeling is the best song ever written.

To be fair, I was playing it three half steps off key. That must have thrown your delicately tuned ear for dad rock.

Quotation marks are for song titles, italics are for album titles.

As long as you do not rip on Queen, I can respect your opinion of Boston and in a fit of political correctness not post Boston videos.

One of my first introductions into dad rock (I was a huge dad rock fan in middle school, I wish I still had my Motley Crue and Van Halen t-shirts). Anyway, I still love this song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UIB9Y4OFPs
But my ultimate favorite is Styx, I still listen to them all the time (in the closet of course). They got me through middle and high school. I've seen them twice in concert and they might be my favorite band of all time after Muse.. but they carry more nostalgia so I'm not sure who would win that fight.

I saw these guys on their Euphoria tour and when they played their classic songs the crowd would sing along so loud that you couldn't hear the band.
