Title: Kendall Jones
Post by: rooster on July 04, 2014, 06:04:11 PM
So this big game hunter/cheerleader has been getting a lot of attention on FB. I don't really care either way, I don't like seeing the pictures of dead animals on my newsfeed but I don't see how signing a petition will actually help the problem of hunting endangered species. Now I did read her side of the story and how she thinks it helps conservation - it really just comes down to how the money they spend on the hunts incentivizes farmers to keep lions and other big game on their land, in which case it seems like there would be better ways to help than paying to kill them. But whatever, it's not an issue I'm going to get on a soapbox about.

Then I saw this awful, awful article by Matt Walsh that someone posted. His whole argument is about today's moral anarchy. How people have no right to be upset about the killing of endangered species if they don't also rage about the many abortions that happen every year. Because if endangered life should be protected > all life should be protected > especially humans.

I like how at the end, he just comes right out and says that there's absolutely no grey area, it's either "suicidal nihilist" or "pro life zealot". It's no secret that polarizing crap like this gets good ratings, or page views, or whatever, but it's still nauseating to me. It's also funny how he seems to have zero insight into human nature. Of course people get excited about seeing a hunter gloating over a dead animal, as compared to faceless statistics on abortion. People are wired to have a stronger reaction to individuals. If you ran the "Kendall Jones loves killing lions" story alongside a story where a particular child was killed, that would be a fair comparison, and obviously the child would get a bigger reaction.

I'd say this Matt Walsh guy needs to pull his head out of his ass, if I didn't already think this article is just another case of calculated pandering to the right. Bleh. I feel like I need to take a shower now.

He mentions the endangered part of the argument but then goes on to totally disregard its insignificance by comparing a cockroach to a lion. Plus, it seems like it's impossible for him to comprehend that some people just don't think fetuses have the same rights as an independently living creature - which includes the rights of people to bare skin in their personal photos (which can be reported and removed if deemed pornographic).

Even if fetuses had the same rights as individuals, it doesn't make abortion wrong.

Yeah, disregarding human rights is fine as long as you allow it. See: castle doctrine.

This bitch kills for fun then makes up reasons to justify it. She knocks evolution back a few hundred years.

This is good.

Unfortunately, she still has a TV show in the works for next year.

And I'm sure it'll get lots of ratings just for being controversial.
