"Blue Jet" lightening bolt pokes hole through Dome
« on: July 10, 2021, 03:30:23 AM »
Hi Guys,

I thought this image is fascinating of a "Blue Jet" lightening bolt rising through the atmosphere and making a big hole through the upper stratosphere or Dome.  The hole is clearly visible above the lightening bolt and helps show how tall the atmosphere is above the earth and how close the ISS orbits around the surface.

From the surface Earth looks flat.  From space Earth looks round.  Now what?

It's kind of cool when you realize.. it's exactly the same thing happening on the inside of a neon sign, which is basically electrified gas, except in our case, it's electricity from the sun energizing high altitude oxygen and nitrogen! If the atmosphere were full of neon instead, the aurora would be an epic bright red, if Xenon or Krypton, a cool white/grey.
