Phases of Venus

I assume that FE'ers  also discredit the modern heliocentric solar system model. That being the case can you come up with a nice and simple and logical explanation for the phases of Venus which can be directly observed with any telescope.

The disk size of Venus varies with the phase. Largest when at crescent phase when Venus lies between the Sun and the Earth (nearer = bigger) and smallest when on the far side of the Sun to the Earth as you would expect of a heliocentric model.
