It's called a vanishing point. Obviously you are unaware that the further something gets, the smaller it is.

You should just stop - you are destroying flat Earthism. A vanishing point is a term used in art, but you are obviously unaware of that. Tell me, if it is so far away that it is starting to vanish, why does it only vanish in one dimension? Shouldn't it also vanish horizontally? lol, this is too easy.

You keep saying that, Dr Rowbothams work was revolutionary, proved by the fact people like you are debating it now rather than ignoring what you are claiming to be salad of rubbish.

You are aware Rowbotham wasn't a Dr., right? He was, however, a conman since he called himself a Dr. and ran some life-extending gimmick.

When the plane moves, its going to move with the turbulence, right? Hence why the spirit level moves the minutist bit. However, if the earth was flat then the bubble would move to the far end when the pilot dips to account for the earths curvature. But it doesn't, because no dip occurs. Once again, if the earth was round and the pilot didn't account for the curvature, the plane would fly in a straight line and out of the sky into space, but this doesn't happen, therefore proving earth is not a globe.

OMG, you can't be serious. No, the bubble would NOT move to the far end EVEN if what you're trying to claim was true. It would move a tiny bit off center. And I do mean a tiny bit. Have you ever used a level before??? A slight tilt does not cause the bubble to go to the far end thereby proving you have no clue what you're talking about.

Of course I have used a spirit level before. If the plane dipped to account for the curvature of the earth, yes, the bubble would move to the far end because the dip of the plane would be enough to make it so.

Just so we are both 100% clear, I think you're just trolling. No one could possibly be this ignorant. I mean honestly, do you think the Earth is the size of a beach ball?

Flat Earth Theory / Re: How thick is the Earth?

I’m new to the Flat Earth Theory, and I was wondering how thick the Earth is, and its approximate circumference.

They have no idea how thick the Earth is. The circumference of the globe is 24901 miles.

It's funny that some people are still taking this seriously. Talk about confirmation bias. Maybe he made the Earth convex with his paranormal powers? Satellites held up with electro-magnetism??? Sigh, the world is getting dumber by the day.

YouTube it, he doesn't rest it on the armrest at all.

If the earth is round, then the pilot would have to dip the plane to account for the earths curvature, and as a result the spirit level would have moved. It didn't, because the plane didn't. And if gravity keeps the plane curving instead, then why is it not strong enough to pull the plane down to earth? It's strong enough to pull the planet into a ball, but powerless to stop a plane flying? Please...

If the earth was round, and the pilot didn't dip the plane to account for the curvature, then the plane would fly in a straight line and would fly out of the sky into space.

The armrest issue was only one minor thing. And planes do curve in flight. I explained how it works. I also explained several other issues with this bogus experiment, and you've conveniently ignored them. Gravity will definitely pull a plane (and just about everything else) to the ground. Gravity is a very weak force and it is not difficult to overcome it. This is no different on a FE, btw. The Earth was pulled into a ball during its development. I am continually shocked by how little you seem to understand about basic processes. I guess that is what happens when you get all your info from a tiny source of weirdos with fake beliefs.

Incorrect. The plane would have to have been flown at an angle to account for the curvature of the earth. If it did that, then the spirit level would have moved, but it did not, hence proving that the earth is flat.

My goodness you FEers are ignorant. Flying at one G would mean you are following the curve of Earth's gravitational field. This would cause the level to remain centered. More importantly, the motion of a plane in flight and the lack of knowledge of what the pilot is doing with the controls render this experiment completely useless. And this is EXACTLY why we need experts. Backyard science is fun, it can be educational, but it should never be mistaken for real science. This whole experiment only proves that the experimenter had no idea what they were doing. A spirit level??? Not exactly the most sensitive device. Let me guess, the person that supposedly did this probably rested the level on the armrest. The vibrations alone would have added far too much noise to any actual data.

As for moonlight, Dr Rowbotham only wrote the facts. He didn't make any errors. The man was a visionary, and should be respected as such.

You trolled too hard on that one. You were doing ok for awhile, but now you've blown your hand and made it clear you're just trolling. Later.

Dr Rowbotham wrote a revolutionary book but science dismissed it because science dismisses anything that isn't part of the status quo. He researched it over many years, in great detail, and dedicated his life to it.

And yes, they spent trillions, its about control. They can't have the science books rewritten, not during a space race especially.

And notice you mentioned military in that treaty. I never said they were weapons testing, proving my point that they are there.

Saying science dismisses anything that isn't part of the status quo shows you literally have NO CLUE what you're talking about. Go read a book on science history and you'll be treated to battle after battle of ideas, data, and egos. Rowbotham was a joke. I read ENAG. It is poorly written, poorly researched, and contains error after error. I suppose you think moonlight makes things cooler...

Given that both sides would have known, you space race comment makes no sense. It would have been more advantageous to build systems that take advantage of how the Earth is really shaped. (which they did)

I never mentioned anything. I copy and pasted the treaty. It says the military CAN be there for PEACEFUL reasons. Doesn't say they are or aren't. Nor is it relevant to FEH.

50
And for the record, we already looked at the 'evidence', gave our opinions, and you didn't like them. That doesn't mean I have to respond to your petulant ranting for 24 pages.

Opinions is the exact phrase I would use. I think what a lot of REers are looking for are facts, which seems to be in short supply from the FEH folks. I mean you did try to dismiss it by claiming the power lines don't even exist, which is undeniably incorrect.

That's another issue I have, if the only motive for the conspiracy is based on a hypothesis, then doesn't that challenge the validity of the conspiracy theory?
What Dr Samuel Rowbotham revealed to the world was the revelation that earth was not round but infact was flat. But the scientific community just dismissed it. However, when the cold war was in full swing, technology had massively advanced. But what they found would have blown science apart. The Antarctic treaty was created to hide it. NASA kept being funded to astronomical sums and the government's kept a secret. It wasn't hid for money, it was hid because of how much the science books would have to have been rewritten.

So wait, they hid it and spent trillions so they didn't have to change science books?? Well, that certainly is a novel theory. (pun intended)

No, Rowbotham wrote a book that was wrong in almost every assertion and wasn't remotely well researched. If it had merit, the scientific community would have picked it up and run with it. That is how science works. No, he just rehashed ancient theories and proved nothing.

Here are the articles of the Antarctic Treaty. What part of it is related to a flat Earth???

Article 1 – The area is to be used for peaceful purposes only; military activity, such as weapons testing, is prohibited but military personnel and equipment may be used for scientific research or any other peaceful purpose;
Article 2 – Freedom of scientific investigations and cooperation shall continue;
Article 3 – Free exchange of information and personnel in cooperation with the United Nations and other international agencies;
Article 4 – The treaty does not recognize, dispute, nor establish territorial sovereignty claims; no new claims shall be asserted while the treaty is in force;
Article 5 – The treaty prohibits nuclear explosions or disposal of radioactive wastes;
Article 6 – Includes under the treaty all land and ice shelves but not the surrounding waters south of 60 degrees 00 minutes south;
Article 7 – Treaty-state observers have free access, including aerial observation, to any area and may inspect all stations, installations, and equipment; advance notice of all activities and of the introduction of military personnel must be given;
Article 8 – Allows for good jurisdiction over observers and scientists by their own states;
Article 9 – Frequent consultative meetings take place among member nations;
Article 10 – All treaty states will discourage activities by any country in Antarctica that are contrary to the treaty;
Article 11 – All disputes to be settled peacefully by the parties concerned or, ultimately, by the International Court of Justice;
Articles 12, 13, 14 – Deal with upholding, interpreting, and amending the treaty among involved nations.

Randi is a former magician who you think as trustworthy. This guy is also described as a magician. What's the difference? Is it okay when Randi amazes people with "magic" but not other people?

No, those are your words. I have no idea who the guy is. If you'd like to discuss Randi, you should create a new thread. This thread is about some Brazilian guy that claims the Earth is convex and that he has paranormal powers. I'm not entertaining your thread derailment any further than that and would request that you get back on topic.

Quote
There is no context to the video that was provided. I provided a source which describes the Brazilian guy as a magician. Magicians perform tricks for amusement and entertainment.

I posted his own words where he claimed he had paranormal powers and the title of the video references paranormal. I know you want to claim he is saying he is just a magician, but that is not the case at all. A man of your age should know that sometimes it is just better to admit you were wrong and move on. You're like a guy stuck in a hole who just keeps digging.

The man is clearly profiting from the flat earth movement, that much is clear. Why else does he keep constantly going on about it? Though he's actually giving a platform to us, as it makes people look at the flat earth movement and hopefully see the reality for themselves.

His profits from any comments on FEH would be minimal. US kids already lack the skills needed to compete globally due to lacking science education. NDT is trying to raise awareness about it. FEH is a great tool for that. I know you guys take yourselves and FEH very seriously, but you're just wrong. Look at all the little patches that have to be applied to it just to make it match observations that naturally arise from a round Earth. UA, magical perspective, "celestial" gravitation, shadow objects, ice walls, etc, etc, etc... It isn't real and the fewer people that think it is, the better.

Anyway, going back to your quote there is a fundamental difference there between "The Amazing Randi" and that guy -- Urandir, as claimed by your own quote, didn't do it for entertainment. He did it to trick people into joining his sect.

As far as we know he is just operating a fun adventure theme park on his ranch for the people of Brazil to escape into. That's basically what magicians do -- provide escapism from the boring real world.

Maybe the people of Brazil just go there for fun like we go see magic shows here for fun. Have you ever thought about that?

Quote
You're digging yourself deeper if you want to bring Randi's organization into this -- it was created solely to disprove the claims of psychics and other paranormals. The organization had absolutely nothing to do with entertainment.

Its a form of entertainment. That is why Randi is featured on talk shows and speaks of big prizes, rather than writing any scientific papers or engaging in scientific research. I don't see any other scientists appearing on talk shows and announcing "prove me wrong, you'll win big money!"

There are numerous accusations that Randi does not let the people who accept his challenge even perform their feat as they claim to be able to perform it. Things along the line of "Oh you claim to be able to use a dousing rod to find water wells? Well, we've hidden a bottle of water somewhere in this building. Find it!" There is no real scientific examination of the claims.

Tom, what does Randi have to do with a nutter in Brazil claiming the Earth is convex? It is truly an epic strawman, but you can stop attacking it now. Your original post has been shown to have been created by someone not horribly concerned with being factual. Case closed. All this other stuff is just your typical Tom Bishop derailment. I'm waiting for you to claim the plate was broken by perspective.

Later years have provided additional evidence and insight to various phenomena. I think Rowbotham would have made some different conclusions to different evidence.

I agree, he would have decided the world was, in fact, round. It makes no logical sense that gov'ts are lying to us about the shape of the planet nor does it make sense that NASA has pulled the wool over everyone's eyes. Thanks for setting that one up for me.  ;)

If this guy is really claiming to have paranormal or magical powers, then I agree. He is a charlatan.

However, that is not what he is claiming in some of his translated texts. He is claiming to be able to explain what many people attribute to paranormal and ufology. I don't know what the context is behind some of these videos, or their purpose. I don't know Portuguese.

"Urandir shows how he works with his mental power affecting objects."

Seems pretty straightforward.

He thinks he has supernatural powers.

"From the age of eighteen I began to perform paranormal spectacles for people, but the beings in the form of light told me that this energy should not be used for exhibitionism and that I should find out what its purpose is. At twenty-three, another "chance", another discovery. I found in a street two people who had been run over and had broken bones. I felt an urge to touch them and so I did, the pains were diminishing until they ceased altogether. On this day I understood that I could and should use my energy for the benefit of others. "

Can we all finally agree he is a charlatan?

The premise is that the demonstrator is using focus and positive thinking to make difficult tasks easier. Come on. That's not magic paranormal bs. That's exactly the mantra behind many martial arts and self-help philosophies. It's not a magical explanation.

Have you never used those tactics of focus and positive thinking to study in school or take a test?

The demonstrator does not use "this is magic" as the explanation. The philosophy behind his organization is, as you recall, to find explanations for what people think of as paranormal. He demonstrated and explained. I am satisfied.

Of course you are satisfied. He was flat Earthy, so he was good to go from the start. Do me a favor Tom and twist a fork up like that with positive thinking. LOL, so ridiculous. Also, the guy is claiming he got these "powers" from the alien visits, not just being mentally focused.

Riddle me this, can positive thinking cause a glass plate to explode? It can if you're a fraud.

Ripping a coin in half with your bare hands is a seemingly paranormal thing. I'm not surprised that some people on Youtube would describe it as such. However, if you read his materials, he does say it's it power of focus of the mind. He says that he was inspired by Uri Geller, who bent forks on television and attributed the effect to positive thinking.

I've seen similar feats attributed to the power of focus and clear/positive thinking. Its not really that offensive of an explanation. It probably does take a lot of focus and clear thinking to perform the feats seen in things like martial arts/object bending.

Wait - you think these parlor tricks are real?? Uri Geller couldn't do shit with his mind other than think of ways to con people out of money. Yes, focus is highly important and some people can do seemingly amazing things, but none of it involves telekinesis or other paranormal bs. It is generally years of practice or a gimmick. Give me spoon made out of the right metal, and I'll melt that sucker with my bare hands. No skill or mental powers needed. Just a very basic knowledge of chemistry.

If you are going to call this man a charlatan for bending forks and coins and attributing it to the power of focus of the mind and positive thinking, then you may as well call martial artists charlatans.

Not even remotely the same thing. And, to be honest, there is a fair amount of trickery in martial arts.

I don't take Rowbotham's work as gospel. The conclusion in Rowbotham's work is "Earth Not a Globe," not "The Earth is Flat". The work actually just explores one interpretation of the evidence, which is stated numerous times by the author, and we all recognize that.

Are there some ideas you take issue with? I've never seen you call anything he says into question, including some blatantly false stuff. (continents floating on water, etc)

Sorry Tom, but there are multiple reports on various sites of his shady dealings.

Your one article announcing his innocents and persecution is a news site run by Urandir media, his own site.

How is it multiple reports from multiple sources?

The first site you provided is a nasty posting on the the rival ufo.com.br website. The second website you provided publishes nasty emails sent from people with the rival @ufo.com.br email address. It appears that these allegations are coming from one source. A source that happens to be his rival competitor.

Or we could just judge him by his own videos. Astound as he twists a fork and rips a coin in two. This isn't even main stage stuff at a freak show. He's a hack making money off the gullible.
