Tom, you must not understand guided missile systems. The control system operated by the gunners mate gives the missile an initial trajectory that is calculated based on known variables - location of target, speed and trajectory of target, as well as environmental variables, ie coriolis effect, wind, etc. Guided missiles then do course correction throughout its flight if anything changes.

Apparently, I dont have the right equipment for doing night time photos of astronomical objects. However, my observations 10:45pm EST in Indianapolis, Indiana, show me that the eclipse is coming on in the bottom side (East?) of my view of the moon as I am facing SE 120 degrees (according to the compass on my phone).

I was able to take some crappy photos with my phone through the lens of my telescope. (Don't make fun of me, lol, my budget is spent on children).

(Even says they have to account for the curvature of the earth interestingly enough for long range missile launches).

I even found a paper from a Russian professor discussing the Coriolis effect on their unguided missile systems. It was on a research website to which I did not have access to the paper, but I requested access. We shall see if that happens.

Of course, I agree with Tom. We all know that centrifugal force is what is in play on a merry go round. 6th grade physics class. But that's shifting the goalposts, again. No one mentioned merry go round, at least in this thread alone. Nor are they confusing centrifugal force with coriolis.

There has already been a discussion on the topic of what FE adherents will accept. Not a direct quote but something like, "NASA doesn't lie about everything, just space travel." So, a very good example of being able to shift the goalposts to whatever you want. FEers can now accept NASA data whenever it suits them.

Let's see if this gets moved. I hope not, since I can, if needed go back and quote the original thread that this came from. And it is addressing something in this thread.

I agree with George. My original line of questioning was concerning the validity of stories concerning his background and involvement of others in his life. It evolved into this. (Hence, my oft said claim that everyone keeps shifting context).

I will point out that George is also shifting context. He is no longer using (if he ever did in this thread, although Tom has and is) the word cure in association with phosphorus. It is now a treatment. Shifting of context again. (Unless, he is agreeing with me that it is a treatment for pain, and not a cure for neuralgia (which is just nerve pain).

Having an unexplained coincidence and positing that the earth is actually accelerating upwards is not evidence. That's merely an attempt to answer the conundrum.

"It makes more sense if the earth is accelerating upwards." That is a claim. That is not evidence. You cannot state that just because there are coincidences in general relativity that Einstein said, oh that's curious, it's as if its accelerating upwards. That's not evidence. That's the same inane claim made by round earthers when they say, it makes more sense that the earth is round.

Yes, like using leeches to drain bad blood. There's a reason for why certain medical practices aren't used anymore. 1) They weren't effective or effective enough. 2) They were dangerous. 3) They just didnt work at all.

Being mainstream does not mean it is correct. That's the argument FEers use against REers all the time.

At this point, we can argue it's a difference of semantics. Did it cure them of nerve pain? Ok, sure. Let's go with that. Did it cure a disease? No.

Did tylenol cure my headache? Yes. Did it cure my stress that caused the headache? No. Is a headache a disease? No. It is a symptom. Is it pain? Yes. Can pain be cured? In a sense of the word, sure.

Can pain be so debilitating that people cannot walk? Yes. But pain is still not a disease.

Tom, neuralgia isnt a disease. So therefore phosphorus cannot cure something that isnt a disease. Go back and read the actual text that goes with the table, not the table. It explicitly states by the author that the pain was gone. It does not state that it was cured.

Neuralgia is nerve pain. That is all it is. Nothing less. Nothing more. Unless you have a definition from somewhere else that I am unaware of?

Cured nerve pain. That is what they said. I did read it. I read even beyond what you snipped out. They did not say it cured cholera. It cured the pain. It alleviated symptoms. There is a difference.

Oh and besides the "violent venereal erections" and bloody emissions as evidence that it could be used as a libido improve. Lol sounds like something that would be great to take. "Why are you bloody down there, honey? Oh ya know, I had violent erection after trying to cure my tuberculosis."

Tom made an assertion that questioning is actively discouraged.  You responded to the whole thread, referencing the entire thread about questioning being discouraged as a general practice as asserted by Tom. You did not clarify that you were responding to any specific part of Bad Puppy's response. Therefore, you are offering it up as evidence that questioning in general is discouraged. Stop shifting context. If you meant it just as a response to one single question, you should have highlighted that question alone. See, I am helping you here by clarifying what point you are trying to make, and simultaneously using the same tactic that FEers typically use by stating, oh that's not real evidence. So is it evidence? You said no. So, actually what's your point? If its not evidence, then it is pointless and does nothing to further the current debate in this topic on whether or not astronomy professors actively discourage questioning in general.

Incorrect, Tom offered an assumption or claim that that is how astronomy classes work. He offered no studies with data and correlations. He didnt even offer a personal experience, aka anecdotal. I asked him for that evidence. He has not responded. You, however, offered your experience.

You are correct, anecdotal evidence is not valid. You can Google that. Or would you like me to provide mounds of sources that I will pull from Google to back that up?

Correct, but you are shifting context. We aren't surveyors in this example. We are referring to diurnal parallax. A method to calculate distance to far off object using geometry and trigonometry.

Go look up the diurnal parallax. Its basic geometry. Wow. Do you not see two right angle triangles in that diagram?

The angle that forms between the hypotenuse and the opposite sides of the triangle is known - the angle at which you are viewing from the telescope. You can then move your apparatus to achieve the angle again from a distance moved one way or another. You then measure that distance. Divide by two. You know have a known angle and a distance with which you can use  the basic SOHCAHTOA.
