What is the best way to be happy?
« on: January 16, 2014, 02:50:35 AM »
Is it to make as much money as possible? To focus on your passions? To avoid potential conflict? To fall in love? <3

I am at a point in my life where I need to decide how I'm going to live. Whatever you guys decide, I'll totally do.

No. I'm just curious. What makes you happy? Being the first person to call my PR&S threads stupid?

Living life they way you want is true happiness.  Others cannot tell you how to live your life happily.
I don't even care to find out what you're doing wrong, but I'm sure you're doing something wrong.

Do whatever makes YOU happy. It could be love, it could be an intrerest you're passionate about, it could be money, it could be a life of humble service in a religious order. Work out what YOU want from life.

Yeah, I wouldn't base this on random internet people, you need to figure out what you want. I'm still kind of at that point. As far as I've discovered, what makes me happy is music, books, games , TV and love, and some other stuff. This does not form a coherent "what I should do" yet.
There are cigarettes in joints. You don't smoke it by itself.

What makes me happy varies substantially based on my mood, the situation and the company, and is liable to (and often does) change abruptly from day to day, hour to hour or even minute to minute. This has been exacerbated lately as I've been going through a relapse of my depression from a few years back, which makes me even more prone to wild changes of mood and general extremes.

Just doing what I want doesn't always work, because sometimes I'll want to eat half a kilogram of chocolate for no particular reason, and then I'll feel like shit from all the sugar. However, sometimes refraining from indulging makes things even worse because I then have the urge to do something that just doesn't go away.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I have no fucking clue.

To be happy without needing any of that stuff.

It's all a state of mind.

The best way to be happy is to just decide to be happy.  The rest of it will all fall into place to keep you happy.  Of course chemical imbalances and other factors hinder this approach.

This part was a joke. I'm not retarted.

Personally, I think happiness is a combination of money and passion... and possibly a dash of hookers.

Sadly, so many people think happiness is something that you have to chase after; an object you have to acquire, a person you have to win over, or a place you have to visit. If you invest your happiness heavily in external things, you'll be chasing them until the day you die, like drinking salt water trying to cure thirst.

To be happy, you have to be harsh with yourself. You have to set aside your pride and discover your faults and weaknesses, as well as your strengths. And most importantly, you have to be blatantly honest with yourself in introspection. This all leads to the most essential ingredient of happiness: self-respect. If you don't have this, you'll never have happiness.

Smoke lots of weed.

Beat me to it, you dickhead.

Regardless, true happiness comes from giving up all your worldly possessions (or placing them in storage) and going on a pilgrimage around India whilst remembering not to drink water that you haven't boiled or got in a respectable establishment. If that isn't enough, spend time in Japan, then finish off with a pilgrimage around China. Have fun.
