Flat Earth Theory / Re: EVIDENCE
« on: October 29, 2015, 01:17:28 PM »

Hardly surprising, objects farther away converge to the vanishing point at the horizon.

Yes far away objects do appear to merge, but as I demonstrated with a sketchup model -a person would need to be more that 250,000 miles away to make the sun look like it was merged with the Earth and at no time would only half of it disappear.

How do you know the earth is round?  I'm not asking what you've been taught, or what you've read.  How do you, yourself know?

You don't.

I suppose if your definition of "knowing" can only be gained through direct observation by an individual than what do any of us really "know"?

Modern humans and our civilization relies on us being able to use more than just direct observation -we can also use logic and reason.

There is no need for me to go to space to see for myself as many, many other people have already been and seen it directly. The current model also accurately predicts what we see at any time from any spot on Earth.

Hi everyone, please tell me if I'm wrong on this point:

the only 'real' evidence that the Earth is a ball comes from NASA, and other affiliated space/meteorological agencies.

In order to prove that the Earth is a ball, is there any non-agency, non-government funded scientific or exploratory research that can, without any doubt, SHOW the spherical Earth. I think that in order to weigh up the evidence we need more than just what NASA and the like have to say.

Any thoughts?

I think that you must have not really spent much time looking.

Almost all well educated people have known that the Earth is round for at least 2000 years probably more.
The only people who thought otherwise where more influenced by religion than science.

So you think that Russia and China (who do not have particularly close relations with us -particularly 40 years ago) as well as the other 40 or more nations which have some space activity are all in cahoots in this plot?

I suppose that would be valid if you can show that conditions on the moon are outside of the operating parameters of the suits.

"if we don't yet have the tech to go to the moon"

...except for the fact that we have been there proves that we have had the technology for 46 years.

"despite it's leaking gases does not have a human atmosphere"

-low Earth orbit also does not have a "human atmosphere.

No. Simply because someone says something does not make it true.

In the case of the moon landings we also have a large mountain of cooberating evidence.

You just linked to a reference

For most practical purposes, the Moon is considered to be surrounded by vacuum. The elevated presence of atomic and molecular particles in its vicinity (compared to interplanetary medium), referred to as 'lunar atmosphere' for scientific objectives, is negligible in comparison with the gaseous envelopes surrounding Earth and most planets of the Solar system—less than one hundred trillionth (10−14) of Earth's atmospheric density at sea level. Otherwise, the Moon is considered not to have an atmosphere because it cannot absorb measurable quantities of radiation, does not appear layered or self-circulating, and requires constant replenishment due to the high rate at which its atmosphere is lost to space.

Although it is very little it is not "deep space".

"Yet, we are expected at the same time to believe that humans have been to the moon??!! This moon business is a lie.....what else is? The moon-landings are real but we don't as of today have the space-suit tech to get us there!! What gives, Man; what gives?"

The moon actually has an atmosphere -it is not "deep space"

Flat Earth Theory / Re: Has anyone ever flown a plane across Antarctica?

When you look at the terrain they had to cross it is amazing that anyone managed to reach it by land.

Yeah, walking the equivalent distance from Dallas to New York (even in the Antarctic summer) does not seem like a good way to spend a vacation.

That seems like a reasonable point to me.

Yes -Why do people risk their lives to climb a mountain and not cross a continent?

This is just conjecture on my part:

Climbing a mountain sounds "sexier"
It is actually much easier because Everest is set up like an tourist activity. All the supplies are there and it is relatively easy to set up.
As has been pointed out there are people who go there for adventure but they tend to fly there or take cruise ships around it or sail around it.
-as well as the thousand or so people who risk there lives living there year round to conduct science and an additional 3000 that are there exploring or conducting science in the summer.

On the flip side, the FE also has an Antarctica  (just shaped different) and no one has ever been interested in exploring it.

Regardless of the number of people that actually do it   -it is still actually done.
So asking why more people do not do it does not effect anything -it is simply an interesting question of human behavior.

I do not see how there is much profit in believing in a flat Earth

From what I have read you would need millions of fans t do well from YouTube commercial profit sharing, or possibly sell a book, or start a paid cult, etc..

I think this is just an honest heartfelt belief by many,
But I suppose there may be some who just like the act
-or dream of making money from it.

As far as being a "gateway" superstition?
I do not see it.

It seems to me that it is just as likely that any particular non-popular belief is about as likely as any other. A person who is susceptible to one is probably  much more susceptible to others though.

They all have a common thread and that is extreme distrust.

Even if by treaty it did require some sort of host country permission and FAA type flight plan -the entire continent of Antarctica is more than twice the size of Australia with only about 1000 year round residence peaking to maybe 4000 in summer.

So it is pretty much deserted. I doubt they could even find anyone exploring it much less stop them.

Well it kind of is a fact that the south pole is pretty much on lock down with that antarctic treaty, so it would not be surprising if TPTB get to pic and choose who gets to run trips to Antarctica. So yes the pilot could be a shill.

Yes there is a treaty that governs Antarctica but that is not a "lock down".

Any country in the world can go there and conduct science or tourism.

According to the article on the private pilot, he did not actually file a correct flight plan so that no one would try and object before he made the flight.
He had to return to Murdock because he ran low on gas and made an un approved landing there.

I did not see any indication that he was fined or his pilots license was suspended or he was punished in any way.

Actually I think that the way it really is in my reality (round earth orbiting the sun)  is much simpler

No need for a conspiracy, no mysterious and unfindable edge, gravity works predictably, the sun travels as observed, etc..

Simply hiding the true shape of the Earth with a population of over 6 billion would be next to impossible.
(at least in my alternate reality) In your reality where physics follows different rules it is most likely perfectly reasonable.

So in that light my alternate reality theory makes perfect since.

Ancient people could certainly add and subtract and that is pretty much the only science involved in predicting an eclipse.

Yes, modern science also uses addition and subtraction but I do not see how that validates a flat earth.

I have developed my own theory.

Current string theory suggests that there are many more dimensions than we see and it is possible that more than one "reality" can exist at any point and time.

My theory is that the web has created an interdimensional bridge between alternate realities. Some people here live on a ho hum round world but others live on a flat world where physics works by seemingly arbitrary rules and 99.999 percent of the population is either, too ignorant to figure out they live on a flat earth, or are involved in a conspiracy to conceal that fact.

Or perhaps my alternate theory is that every persons reality is slightly different from anyone else's because of small differences in genetics and environment.

Personally I prefer the simpler round world so that makes me a simpleton.

Hi,

Here is the route of the The Vendée globe, which is a boat race that start in France :

How do you explain that ? It's contradictory with your map

Sorry for my english i'm french

Hi eloy,
Your English is excellent.

I believe that either: the map is considered a "suggestion" or possibly -that the boat race is considered a hoax, or perhaps -just people sailing around not really knowing where they are going.

-who knows?

I would actually like to see the path that the sun takes in a bi-polar Earth. Is it the same as the traditional FE sun path?

Well with a flat earth people will want to know if the earth is infinite or finite, and will go in search of an edge. The edge could very well not be a place TPTB wishes anyone to find. Maybe the edge will beyond a shadow of a doubt imply god, or maybe some nasty creatures, created this place.

I believe the evidence proves that people who like to believe in FE also do not like looking too close. (hence no planes, boats, telescopes, surveying equipment, sextants, sun observations at multiple points at the same time, etc..

There is only one experiment that has ever partially proven a flat (or flat-er) earth and that is that some objects can be seen at a slightly farther distance than the proposed circumference of the Earth would dictate.  FE'ers tend to do this one over and over again.

I joined Eric Dubay's forum ...
So what was his response to me posting this? He BANNED ME!!

To me that seems very strange, looks like he is up to something, a shill maybe?

I think that it is likely that he is suffering from extreme paranoia.
