The trend on this forum is “because of this evidence, earth flat”. All you’ve proven is that there are nuances and other independent variables you were not aware of. You can’t just jump to the conclusion the earth is flat based on an experiment that seems valid at first glance, you must investigate all possible explanations for a phenomenon, via the scientific method which seems to be ironically widely accepted here.

Saying “mirages” in a mocking voice doesn’t make them not real. Temperate and density profile variations bend light. Stick a spoon in a glass of water and observe for yourself. The experimenter did a good job accounting for the camera and light vertical distance, but not refraction.

I hate to counter my own brethren here but I’ll play on this one. The gif you posted seemed to have rays extending out from all directions from the “sun” but in the phenomenon were discussing, all the rays are reaching a local spot on earth. The gif wouldn’t represent the phenomenon accurately because those rays wouldn’t technically be parallel.

Unless I’m misinterpreting the point you’re trying to make...

I was going to mention how the dome would have to be deteriorating like a Mayan temple, but decided the same thing  I was also imagining a glass dome or something transparent but I don’t see the problem with rock. I’d be interested to know how high the dome is though, because the atmosphere would have to be thick or volumous enough to not see the dark gray layer of rock above us. Unfortunately, we can’t bounce lasers off the rock to measure its distance because the dome isn’t real. We can do this with the moon though and measure the distance based on lapsed time of the laser lights return.

I saw that thread and the answer given to you was unsatisfying.

So just to recap for the next flat earther to read:
What are meteors? Why do they not fall vertically if they are pieces of dome? Why are they unpredictable?

Another Wikipedia page. I know of most of these, but don’t have any friends who work in any of these or have had any direct contact except for Lockheed Martin, and even then, i don’t work around the space program guys in Fort Worth. Regardless, that’s a lot of people and a LOT of capital spent on fake programs. Sometimes, meteors crash into us if they are any larger than a truck. Smaller rocks will most likely burn up in the atmosphere before reaching the surface. We can also predict some of the larger meteors’ orbit. A growing industry is trying to track more space rocks in order to predict a potential catastrophic event and be more prepared for it.

I read the wiki, maybe not enough, and found nothing. I used the search tool and found about a dozen threads with no satisfying answer. If everything from the moon to stars is relatively local and also predictable, then what explains the unpredictability of meteor showers and the occasional meteor that reaches the surface? What are meteors?

This depends on your definition of flat.

The confusion on your position is perpetuated. My best guess on your position is that the world is round but not curved up to 360 degrees? You also think the bing map's interactive scale is completely accurate, meaning when you put two cities in, it will give you an accurate distance between them regardless of either cities' long/latitudinal position?

broken record time: one cannot feel velocity, only acceleration, and the centripetal acceleration we feel as we revolve and rotate is minuscule.

OP, if you read the wiki I think most the FErs here buy into it. The hierchy seems to be Tom, then the mods, then the followers, and Tom apparently is in charge of the wiki. It has stuff like how (not) gravity works and the sun/moon patterns, etc. there is no agreed upon map here, but individual FErs May have their own idea about what map is correct.

The excuse for this is of course, the cabal is against us, we can’t get any good data because we can’t go past the ice wall, we can’t build rockets, etc.

I will break it down for you.

I indicated that any flat earth map has discrepancies that are revealed when measuring distances between two cities on the flat map model candidate and the distances we experience in real life, expecially the farther away from the equator a city is. For a few pages, we debated different aspects of how it could work (most arguments required a cabal to cover things up or something like that), and now we’re looking at different flat maps in particular the bing map, which is actually a globe map in disguise.

Does this make sense now

Finally you see. Give me any map of the earth represented as flat, and I or others will find a discrepancy with it. So far in this thread, I demonstrated the low likelihood of the current widely accepted FE model. Now there’s this bing map theory that’s in the end stages of being crippled.

I didn’t say I believed the flood really happened. In fact, I don’t because I’m still struggling with how there’s kangaroos on only one continent. I’m just trying to play in your field but you seem to be playing a different sport, are you even a flat earther, iamcpc?


I’ve still yet to see a map that works. The bing map has discrepancies. The only time you wouldn’t have a discrepancy is if you picked two cities on the equator with the bing map. The bing map will tell you the actual distance, but if you use the provided scale, the two distances are different.

We could look at the map with the two poles if you’d like iamcpc.

Sorry for the necropost, but I have a UA question for flat earthers. I’m not a theoretical physicist, just a very curious engineer, however I believe I’ve come to understand enough to try to poke holes in UA again.

The way that dark energy applies forces on other bodies is by means of warping spacetime in the opposite way that mass warps space time via gravity. Instead of an actual force pushing you, think of it as the environment created a valley or hill and you roll forward or back, except this is in 4 dimensions. This is what warping spacetime is. If you accept that action as it’s accepted in UA, wouldn’t you need to accept gravity as at least possible? If you actually studied dark energy rather than cherry picking what scientists have come up with, perhaps you could prove yourselves wrong about gravity?

First of all, I came here under the assumption that all flat earthers were Christian, but I may have been mistaken. Furthermore, I assumed all flats earthers were also relatively conservative and liked Trump. I believe here I was gravely mistaken, after reading some threads here. Finally, even FET may not be a conspiracy theory in the negative tin foil hat connotation, it falls in the category among common other people, and I was wondering if FErs also follow other “conspiracies” like qanon.

Also, if all the presidents and candidates know the earth is flat and are not going to share, how do you support one of them?

On a practiacal basis, Newtonian physics works. It’s like the universal back of the envelope theory for engineers. I’ll put it this way: there is a specific way things work, which we are not sure about at this time. Then there are several ways we can describe the way things work. These descriptions manifest in the form of “laws” or just theories. In the study of thermodynamics for example, there are sometimes dozens of different ways to approximate a result all yielding different predictions. You often times have to specify what equation you use when presenting an approximation in your work and a brief explanation why you’d use that one.

All I’m saying is we have a good handle on how things work in reality because of experimentation, but we dont know for sure why it works the way it does. Also, just because the Bible says the earth is flat doesn’t mean it is. It’s just another theory that we need to test. I’ve been on the forum long enough to see that people’s faith is preceding their opinion of the results of their “tests”.

There’s a lot of wiggle room in the science world as far as different theories, etc. but some things are not up for debate. Some examples include things that are practiced everyday: Kirchhoffs’ laws, Newtonian physics, etc. you can debate the nuance, but on a practical level, we have things pretty well figured out. The earth is round is on the same level of general acceptance.

I'm more reffering to mass extinction events, like the flood, and I'll modify what I said to, that sort of event wont happen from the flood and on, rather than from the beginning of man. I don't see the evidence for the flood though. Why are there not kangaroos everywhere else except Australia? I'm not saying one way or the other since I'm not well read in that subject, just throwing sticks at it.

What you've said is similar so the things I would say, which is why I'm confused why you're a flat earther. Is the evidence really that insurmountable to you?
