France to lay solar freaking roads?
« on: February 01, 2016, 04:25:28 AM »
Just as everyone thought that solar roads were dead and gone, it looks like France might be giving it a shot:
France is planning on a project to build 1000 kilometers of road with specially designed solar panels. This project will supply 5 million people in France with electricity if it is successful. Though many solar experts are skeptical of this project, the french government has given the go ahead to this venture.

On less used streets (side streets) it'll workon highways, the side, medium, or simply overhead is the best choice.

Still, good luck.
If you are going to DebOOonK an expert then you have to at least provide a source with credentials of equal or greater relevance. Even then, it merely shows that some experts disagree with each other.

Wouldn't it be more effective to build these solar panels where they won't be partially covered by vehicles all day?

Depends on the traffic.
It's also more expensive.

No, it would always be more effective, since "solar roadways" are always pointing straight up. Modern solar panels track the sun's position, guaranteeing more exposure and more energy.

Solar freaking roadways are objectively worse than roof mounted solar panels. France is probably doing this because they're a bunch of snooty bastards that think solar panels on roofs is ugly.
