Suggestions & Concerns / Re: Deleted posts

Mmmmwelll those that were moved were usually obscene or graphic. They weren't usually someone saying "I think that was a bit of a harsh ban". Usually a mod would respond to that with either a "he broke rule such and such and has a 2x multiplyer for previous etc) or they'd say, "noted - take it to S&C if its a problem.
As someone whose posts were very frequently moved, I have to say "No, that's not what happened". Needless to say, your concern has been noted.

They wouldn't hide it so other users couldn't read it and have a passing opinion on the matter. I just found that a strange course of action.
You voiced your opinion in the appropriate forum now, and it's not being deleted nor restricted. Sounds like this problem is resolved.

Just for clarity: quite a few posts were moved to the Quarantine on the old site. This practice will continue here.

It's just a potential problem of having to replace mods. It's not that I think they'll sabotage this site or anything.
Pointless discrimination. If they decide to quit or become inactive, we'll replace them. This applies equally to the mods from the other forum, and ones who have never moderated it.

They ARE decent moderators on the old forum.
I fail to understand why that's a problem. If they're decent moderators elsewhere, that speaks for them, not against them.

They are moderators. We don't care where their "hearts" are if they can do the job well.

Also, Secret User is wise.

Made it a bit less clunky. Still not perfect, but it's pretty good now.

I added the checkboxes (it was MUCH easier than I thought - big thanks to emily for pointing out the obvious to me). They look very clunky right now, but at least they allow both global and local search functionalities now.

I think there should be an American voice in the video. Not mine, though.
You what, mate?

On a more serious note, I was thinking I could work on a short intro we could use in our videos consistently. Something like the first 8 seconds of this. Do people think this would be a good idea?

Just one more word of clarification: In case someone *does* get matched against the database, they get sent to us for manual approval. We had one false positive - emily - due to the username having been previously reported as spammer. Because of that we no longer verify usernames and focus on the e-mail used for registration and IP address.

Also, I get an e-mail saying that "masturbateur" tried to register several times a day. Thought you'd want to know.

We're using an SMF plugin that checks all registrations against a database of known spammers. So far, only one has slipped, and reports for him started flowing in today (one coming from me).

Before that, when we had to approve everyone manually, I tended to err on the side of not accidentally denying a legitimate member, so I let some of them slip - but we got rid of them asap. That said, I checked all accounts with 0 posts against this database and found no confirmed spambots. We shouldn't remove people's accounts just because they didn't decide to post. That'd be a dick move.

If we get a confirmed spambot that slips through the filter, we'll take care of them accordingly and make sure they get added to the DB, for the benefit of this site, and all others that use stopforumspam.com

This is more difficult than I thought. I'm going to have to postpone it until next week, but I'll definitely get something done.

Okay, here's an idea for solving the quicksearch "problem". I'm thinking about adding a little tickbox next to the quicksearch bar that lets you switch between a local (within current board/thread) search and a global one. That way we can get the best of both worlds. I'm looking into it as we speak.

I think an animation of some sort would probably be best. Heck, I could probably try to do it. I'm just a bit worried that I'd fail miserably.

I'm assuming PP (?) will create the animation.
I can't really do animation. I'm fairly good at video editing, and I can do simple graphical design, but I can't draw.

And you would be breaking the same rule by banning him.
We're giving him many more chances than we should be. It just so happens that this one is the last.

He's breaking the site's only current rule. We're trying to be patient, but it's not working out. Perhaps a short ban (or series of thereof) will help him.

I do have some thoughts I'd like to share on setting up some rules, but in the meantime, could we please just ban EJ?  Every single one of us knows that he's a troll and an alt who's just here to be as annoying and disruptive as possible.
I just had a chat with Parsifal. We issued him one last warning. If he ignores that, it's bam time, promise.
