Pandemic Alert!

CDC confirms first Ebola case in the United States.

I'm not worried. Consider this: the Flu kills more people in a year in the United States, than Ebola has ever killed in the world since the 1970's.

This institution strongly believes the virus can be transmitted via aerosol, though the CDC is still claiming only direct contact with an infected individual will get you infected.

If only the CDC knew about vitamin C. They keep trying to solve the crisis with modern medicine. What a bunch of idiots!

I vehemently disagree with those authors. Their point is that since we aren't 100% certain we might as well be safe. In my opinion, when dealing with a disease such as Ebola which has such a low possibility for harm on meaningful (for a pandemic) scale but which is so terrifying, our first priority should be avoiding panic. If the CDC announced that they were taking precautions 'just in case', the public would hear 'ebola can spread through the air now everybody riot'.
That's how far the horizon is, not how far you can see.

Spreading as an aerosol is not the same thing as spreading through air. Furthermore, would you not rather the CDC take the extra precautions rather than "oops looks like it can spread in the general vicinity of the person, not just through direct contact"

When it comes to biohazards, there is no such thing as too much protection. If you get Ebola you're (most likely) dead. That's not a chance I want people to start taking.

Nobody in the first world with access to modern health care is going to die to ebola.

I think the CDC should recommend exactly what science tells them to recommend and no more. The people working with ebola know the risks and can choose to take further precautions if they feel the need to.

The emotional pleas being made in light of his death are pretty humorous. Someone in America has died from Ebola, lets do something guys!
