Technology & Information / Re: iPhone 6 and iWatch

Also, its PPI is not that good. My S5 is 432. Apple is clearly terrible in trying to push the whole "retina" thing, because it's hard to go back to iScreens now after having this phone.
Lumia 930 dicks all over it.
Half the price, twice the power.

Jesus, Thork... If there was ever something that no one cared about or wanted, it is a Windows phone.

iPhone 5 looked nice, why did they replace that design with this shit?

I suspect this is going to laughably expensive

Contract-free 128 GB iPhone 6 Plus is $949. I wish I was fucking kidding.

This is for specs that were good for an Android phone two years ago, mind.

Which specs? The 64-bit CPU? Didn't know Android was pushing that two years ago...

But yeah, underwhelmed overall. I don't really get excited over tech anymore. Still waiting for Apple to "revolutionize" the TV industry, although I don't think that will happen now that Steve is gone. This is what they've come up with in the 3 years since he has passed, a watch. You could tell the Apple Watch is Tim Cook's baby. He rushed through everything, stole Steve's fucking line, and then spent forever talking about a device no one needs. I will get a new iPhone, because I don't have to pay for it. Not sure if I want the 6 or the 6 Plus. It is hard not to look like a douche holding a tablet to your head while talking on the phone.

Technology & Information / Re: Life in 4K
« on: September 04, 2014, 03:37:22 PM »
DP 1.3 needs to hurry up and become mainstream so we can get some 4K@120 love. Supposedly, HDMI 2.0 might be able to pull it off to some extent.

I picked up a cheap Seiki 39" 4K TV from Newegg about 6 months ago (less than $500) It actually has been a pretty fantastic TV. I don't have TV service, I just use a small, but very powerful workstation as a media center PC. I cut the cord on TV over two years ago and haven't looked back. I typically run at 1920x1080@120, but occasionally flip it to 4K for the minimal content I can find. Last I checked, Netflix wouldn't do 4K on a workstation which was disappointing.

Why would NE make it to the SB again? The AFC does have a few decent teams, and the Broncos will still be significantly better than the Patriots. NE plays in an incredibly weak division. They don't get tested and aren't ready for the best teams. The middle of their schedule is rough but they close with all division games. They will win their division, and then get bounced, as usual.

SF or SEA will take the Superbowl this year. Hopefully SF. One, because I am a SF homer and two, because repeating as SB champs is very hard to do. But it wouldn't be shocking if SEA pulled it off.

It is near the CA/NV border, I drive by it fairly often. It is quite blinding during the day.

I may have experimented in college, but that was it  >o<

But seriously, come on Tausami.... Where have you been the past year (or past 7 years she has been on FES...)?

Why is this in S&AS? It belongs in FEG or FED.

Agreed. Merged with the duplicate and left in FEG.

Suggestions & Concerns / Re: On the Notion of T-Shirts
« on: July 20, 2014, 11:33:23 PM »
I would buy a few shirts, if the design is decent.  That being said, I am probably the least artistic person here, so I am not volunteering to make the design.  But, I would be happy to criticize other people's hard work.

I am also not artistically-inclined. Hopefully we can get some volunteers.

Are you familiar with Litographs? They make t-shirt designs based on the text of classic novels. A similar shirt design based on ENaG would be interesting, if someone could figure out how to do it.

I had not seen them before, but I do like the idea. I do think that may be a bit cost prohibitive, at least for a first run. I want to make sure this actually gets done and doesn't sit untouched for months/years.

I'm in favor. I'm sure we still need to come up with designs first, right? At the very least we can take care of that while we discuss reunification.
I will definitely need help with the design. I'd prefer it be agreed on by the community.

I suggest buying a pack of iron on transfers.  It requires more effort but you aren't restricted by minimum counts.
If someone would take on the responsibility for that, I wouldn't mind buying everything. I just won't have time to invest in doing that. My goal is to just throw some money at this and have everything work out, with some oversight of course.

Suggestions & Concerns / On the Notion of T-Shirts
« on: July 20, 2014, 05:10:26 PM »
The topic of t-shirts has come up numerous times in the past few weeks. If this is something the community would like to pursue, I would like to help. I don't know if we want to wait to see what the outcome of any reunification talks may be, or if we should just move forward and do it.

Secret User and I could probably tackle the whole thing, however I'd like to get some help from people who may have experience in this. I don't mind fronting the capital to get a run of t-shirts done. I'd also like to price them such that folks can get them at a reasonable price. I don't mind losing a few dollars out of my own pocket to make that happen.

I'd like to get feedback from the community on this to see if it is something worth pursuing. Also, if you can help, let me know. Again, I am not asking for money, I can take care of that part. I also may need some help with logistics to make sure shirts get shipped where they need to.

That sounds good to me.We should go to them with what pp wrote.

Absolutely agree.  Anything less and we would be going back to the same thing that we left in the first place.

I don't want to be at the charge station for 20 mins either. That's enough to make me late for work.

Charge it at home before you leave  >o<
What if I forget? What if the charging thing burns my damned house down! Those batteries get hot on charging. What if I just go to the petrol station and buy some petrol like civilised folk have done for over 100 years?

I'd put petrol in my mobile phone if it meant I could just top it up and be good for the whole day. OMG. I have to go to the patent office. Brb.

There are quite a few charging stations where I live and I have witnessed zero fires.  I have, however, within the past two months seen a fire at a petrol station. It ignited while I was inside the store and sounded like a gunshot, caused by someone filling up. The car was engulfed in flames, so I quickly left and missed the end result. There are constantly morons who smoke at the pump, don't discharge static, etc. That is a much worse risk than a charging station.

There may be reasons to not like electric cars, but to me, charging isn't one of them.
