Robin Williams Suicide
« on: August 12, 2014, 03:30:24 AM »
Today is a sad day. Apparently Robin Williams had been undergoing depression and has committed suicide this morning via asphyxiation. It is unclear how or why. Perhaps Night at the Museum III pushed him off the edge. Maybe he killed himself because ABC axed his sitcom.

I will be surprised if a suicide note does not turn up.

I love you, Tom.

Anyway, yes, this is sad news.  He was a fine actor who frequently chose not-so-fine roles.

I think Robin Williams was crying out for help but we just didn't pay attention. Is it a coincidence that a lot of William's more adult movies seem to have themes involving suicide?

What Dreams May Come
Patch Adams
World's Greatest Dad
Death to Smoochy
Good Will Hunting
Dead Poets Society

Not to mention depression related films like One Hour Photo and Insomnia.

Robin Williams wasn't exactly struggling for work when he took on these roles. He must have sought them out as a self interest. I don't see many other children's entertainers like Adam Sandler or Bill Cosby playing in roles like this.

That would be fitting, no?

Death is a release from pain.

I hope Robin Williams can finally rest peacefully.

We tried to watch Dead Poets Society last night but couldn't find a decent quality stream anywhere. We settled for Jumanji cause childhood.

I loved him. I never did like Flubber though.

I did not enjoy Dead Poets Society nearly as much as I expected to. I thought it was boring.

However, Good Will Hunting is excellent. I am watching that tonight.

Ah, so it was Night at the Museum III that pushed him off the edge.

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/robin-williams-troubled-financial-problems-report-article-1.1900580

Quote
The comedian, after two pricey divorces, was upset that he needed work to insure his family’s future financial security, a family friend told RadarOnline.

“All he could talk about were serious money troubles,” the friend told the website about a recent chat with Williams. “There were clearly other issues going on and Robin sounded distant during the telephone conversation.”

The troubled Williams was even rattled by the impending resurrection of one of his most famous film creations, “Mrs. Doubtfire,” the friend told RadarOnline.

“There was also frustration that Robin expressed at having to take television and movie roles he didn’t want to take, but had to for the paycheck,” the family friend said.

“Doing sequels was never Robin’s thing, and he wasn’t that excited at having to reprise the role of Mrs. Doubtfire.”The movie was scheduled to begin shooting late this year.

Williams’ sitcom “The Crazy Ones” was canceled by CBS this year after just one season, and he returned this summer to a 12-step program for treatment of his well-chronicled drug and alcohol problems.

In an interview last year, Williams typically made a joke when asked if he lost all his money in his two divorces.

“Well, not all,” he told Parade magazine last September. “Lost enough. Divorce is expensive. I used to joke they were going to call it ‘all the money,’ but they changed it to alimony.

“It’s ripping your heart out through your wallet.”

Williams was last seen alive Sunday night by his third wife before she went to bed about 10:30 p.m.

Williams’ three children were financially protected by a trust set up by the comedian, according to TMZ.com. The kids receive their payments at three different milestones: their 21st, 25th and 30th birthdays, the report said.

I find it hard to believe that he had money problems, but I guess I can see it. Divorce is expensive, especially if your ex is a bitch who takes advantage of your celebrity. I also didn't realize that he had drug problems.
