Title: On the notion of "MOVED:" threads
Post by: Pete Svarrior on February 09, 2018, 06:42:34 PM
I'd like to suggest that we take it down a notch when it comes to the auto-generated "MOVED" threads. They make some sense, but only if a thread is being moved between upper fora, or if it's someone's first offence. I don't know exactly where the line should be drawn (hopefully others will chip in with opinions to help flesh this out), but I think these may be causing more harm than good on occasion. At the time of me posting this, the most recent post in each of the upper fora is "MOVED: something something" by junker.

Agree. Most of the time, I can't really see the point of moving threads if a forum is just going to be cluttered with MOVED threads instead of the originals.

I'd imagine the line should be a thread that's useful, posted in alot, or moved to anywhere not CN or AR.

Maybe have a checkbox that'll create the "moved" thread when you move a thread otherwise it just moves it.

Usually it is just from me not taking the extra moment to uncheck the box when I apply some discretion to the move. I tend to do that more with the blatant spam posts.

However, users do complain when the move thread isn't there, assuming their post is deleted. Additionally, they can serve as reminders to users as examples of things that aren't allowed in the upper fora. Having said that, there are too many.

EDIT - A thought, maybe just leave them when they are moved to discussion fora, even the social ones. Don't have them for CN and AR. That would probably cut them down by 50-75 percent. I'll cleanup the upper fora.
