Title: Proof from airplanes?
Post by: Wilson_ on November 16, 2017, 12:51:32 AM
I don't understand how people can ignore the fact that if you have ever been on an airplane flight, and you look out the window, the horizon is curved. Can any of the flat earthers explain this, or will they say that they have never been on a flight before and any photographic evidence was faked?

You aren't seeing a curved horizon out of the window on common commercial flights. Even the RE people who know what they're talking about will tell you that. You'd need much higher altitude and/or much wider field of view in the RE model.

No way in the world the height of a commercial airline will get you to reliably detect any curve. I think you don't understand just how 'low' airplanes actually fly in comparison to the size of the Earth.

It annoys me when RE'ers try to use this as an argument as proof. Thousands and thousands of people everyday can look out a plane window and call out this BS.

Have to agree. I’ve flown hundreds of times. Never seen the curve.

Yep - sorry - I'm with the FE'ers on that score.  You can't visibly see a curved horizon at 40,000 feet - which is the altitude that airliners fly.

You need to be up at around 100,000 feet to see it clearly.

But there are amateur balloonists and amateur rocket enthusiasts who put cameras up that high...many MANY YouTube videos of them doing it are out there.

You actually can if you put a straight edge against the horizon.

In theory, yes - but generally the atmosphere isn't clear enough to decide exactly where the horizon is until you get up above most of it.

You need to take a pic and then look at it, you can tell. Flying is too shaky to be able to see it well, but here.

If there is curvature there - it's less than a pixel in the image...and the horizon is pretty blurry.   I don't think this is enough to convince anyone.

Paul on the plane has tested the curvature many times with his tests all showing a flat as a pancake earth. Please wake up RE peeps

That's pretty funny. Paul on the plane went to Tahoe, accurately measured the curvature of the Earth and then proclaimed it meant the Earth was "less convex" than round Earth theory. But he was wrong.

The comment from WarHoover goes over the math in detail.

For this video: at first, he misrepresents the Tahoe video and says he shouldn't have been able to see the casinos. He shouldn't have been able to see the BOTTOM of the casinos, and he didn't. He only saw the top of the casinos.

Then he misrepresents or misunderstands how phone orientation sensors work. They aren't fixed-in-space gyroscopes, they are accelerometers.

O.M.G - this video clearly demonstrates why you should take everything you see on youtube with a huge grain of salt. He got so much wrong.
