Aaaaaand you just stumped every FE on the page.
You have an interesting definition of "stumping" someone. We're very clear about our scope. We know that the known Earth is flat. We know very little about what lies beyond the known Earth.

Serious question.  Since man has explored since man was around, why would we just stop now and not learn what is out there?  Logic would dictate we would know by now.

Why don't planes fall?

You are assuming satellites have no engines or propellers. Its possible they have nuclear engines (like submarines) and can run for years without refuelling, we already know they do have nuclear satellites so why not.

http://www.businessinsider.com/nuclear-powered-satellites-space-2016-3/?r=AU&IR=T

They (NASA) could also possibly be utilising magnetic fields for high flying craft like satellites, I would assume some technology has been suppressed from the general public, we are not privy to all the information.

So I could believe that they stay in the sky with a technology that you cannot prove to exist, or I could just believe that the earth is round and no such technology is required.

It's all a matter of belief. We may all choose, what to believe in. Usually I pick the most simple option.

Orbital mechanics are really quite simple once you get past the problems of a rocket design that can get you there.   We got past that in the 60's.

Those people who believe the Ice Wall is guarded are lunatics!

Yes because THAT would be crazy.

Why can't the satellites rotate around the same barycenter the run and moon orbit around under the Flat Earth model?

What about the ones on a polar orbit?

There are *two* flat earth web forums, and I posted in both.

On the other one, someone has posted this great video which shows the effect much better than my photo...

Video that shows curvature of the earth

Flat Earth - Zooming on Lighthouses and a ship - 6ft vs 100ft Elevation. Wolfie6020

That is a very well done video and proves the point.

Flat Earth Community / Re: Questions to all flat earthers

I merged the two identical threads you made.

If the Earth is flat, how can people travel all the way around the Earth in one direction and return to the same place?

You don't know how circumnavigation works, do you? It isn't surprising given that your other questions show that you haven't done any research whatsoever.

Oh well. Best wishes, and welcome.

With all due respect, although it is obvious he didn't read the material that covers some of his questions, circumnavigation is possible in directions other than east/west.  Starting at the North Pole on a globe, go south(pick a south) and end up back in the same spot.

According to some, any active supporter of RET is a shill.

I agree, and too many of us FE's are quick to hold up the shill card.
I guess it comes with the enormity of the conspiracy to see devils in every detail.
But enthusiastic RE's are not shills unless perhaps this is happening?

4. An RET supporter who is getting paid by an organisation to troll sites.

I would have to search it but someone called me a paid shill a few weeks ago.

...It's a fisheye lens.

It is most definitely not a fish eye lens.  You should do some homework before you post.   It is, however, a wide angle lens and they produce what is called barrel distortion.  You can see curvature on the fence before the thing is over a hundred feet or so.

Inconclusive video.

People won't believe just a map. That's why I want somebody to travel to the edge and filming it. If they can see a physical edge, then they'll believe. If enough people get a kickstarter together, then people will wake up.

People would believe a map that covered the issues with the maps all over the internet.  If you can come up with a map that explains flight times in the southern hemisphere that would go a long way.

Hey FErs ... how bout that explanation of what flew over Wichita KS last night

We see only a white point, Mick. How do you understand its ISS fake station?

So what is this white point?  And all the other ones that are where they should be using satellite trackers?

Ever considered that it was all just an effort to describe what they saw in a time of ignorance, and now we know better, I mean water above? Clouds, you know where the rain comes from maybe.

Bingo.  They had some pretty silly science in the bible.   Too lazy to look it up but remember when the guy had his sheep look at sticks while mating so the lambs would be spotted or black?

Why don't we raise money to  send some of our respected people on a filmed trip to the ice wall.

Many so called respected people know exactly whats going on.
Take Mythbusters for example, you cannot trust them to be objective.
(But I still really like those guys, one of my favorite shows)

I think Billboards are a good idea, "Research Flat Earth" there is enough material online.
People can do their own research, at least for the moment they can.
Truth will either win or be suppressed, and its not being suppressed right now.

In all sincerity, an accurate flat earth map would be the proof you need to spread the word.

Mythbusters:  I saw Adam Savage and Michael Stevens  Brain Candy Tour a couple of months ago and it was great.   Their respective  Youtube channels are great of you are a geek.

I told you exactly what that projection is.

There is no accurate flat earth map, mostly because the entire concept and debate is something that has pretty recently been reinvigorated. There needs to be a team of people with expertise in cartography AND a willingness to rethink the world map from the ground up.

People navigated for thousands of years without the assumption of the Earth being round. Even the projection you see in your smart phone GPS is essentially a "flat" map.

I did not ask for an official map but what YOU think it looks like.

I don't think anything about the AEP "map." I know that the distances are accurate for latitude only. As is thoroughly explained if you do even a small amount of research into how the projection was made.

Again I asked nothing about any projection map.  I know how projection maps are made.  I asked what do you think a flat earth map looks like?  Not a trick question, I really want to know.

I misspoke earlier and said latitude when I meant longitude (since edited).  Do you think that longitude lines maintain the same angle as they go south from the north pole? If so the distance between points at any latitude would be simple to calculate.

Longitude and Latitude would have nothing at all to do with a flat earth map.

Let me try one more time.  What do you think a flat earth map looks like?

Hard to imagine that in the age of long-range jets that no one has found out.

How many jets have flown blindly into the Southern icy tundras?
...and how many have safely landed at the south pole when delivering supplies to the many hundreds of people who live there all year round.  You can "Skype" chat with some of them.

Navigating to a certain coordinate definitely does not sound like flying blindly into the Southern Tundras to me.

So you are saying that it's possible to go there?

Wouldn't a trip from South America to Australia be much easier if they just flew over top of Antartica and came out on the other side?

It comes pretty close but the direct great circle route does not pass over Antarctica.

I noticed this forum last night, joined today, and I can't help but notice all the round earthers who spend time on here. If the flat earth theory is blatantly wrong, why waste any time debating it when you could spend time doing virtually anything else? Are people truly passionate about round earth? I've never met anyone like that in person, but hey, maybe I'm just not paying enough attention. lol
Curiosity has gotten the better of me, I don't mean to sound malicious/sarcastic/whatever. I have nothing against round earthers, since most people are (though, as I said, typically only passionate about it online).
Isn't the FET totally crazy in the round earther's mind? Like someone saying, "they taught us the wrong alphabet, and it's really been this all along!" Well that would be completely nuts and no one would even bother arguing with that, because, what'd be the point? clearly it's insane and I would have better things to do, and rational ideas to contemplate.
I'm just wondering why someone who believes this irrefutable knowledge, that the earth is round, would even make time during their day to stop by this forum.

..sorry for this mess of a post.. also sorry for the bad alphabet analogy, but hopefully instead of tearing it apart you will understand what I tried to say there..

I can only speak for myself.   I have always been fascinated by the things people believe and how they got to that point.   Be it politics, religion, conspiracy theories, and now FE.

Can you tell me how you arrived at the FE conclusion?

Thanks for taking me seriously, what you said makes a lot of sense. I'm fascinated with conspiracy theories even though I don't believe in a lot of them.

I wouldn't say I've concluded the world is flat, it's just that they bring up a lot of interesting points. I know some can be proven wrong, but I feel like some of their ideas make a lot of sense. (globe or plane, I don't trust NASA either way.. scams and lies as far as I'm concerned)
Last winter, my dad started talking about the FET and I thought he was kidding because, otherwise, he's such a brilliant person who was also blessed with common sense. I was surprised when he said that he really thinks it's possible the earth is flat. I actually had no idea this was even a thing until then. Then I started looking at the proofs that it was a globe, and found that there's a ton of people who believe it isn't. Anyways, by looking for reasons he was wrong, I ended up being partial to the idea that our earth really could be flat. Whether it's true or not, I can't deny that I find it fascinating.. also, it makes the Bible more intriguing, too.
I'm keeping my mind open either way; I'm not looking to be swayed one way or the other in this particular thread, just curious about what draws people here. Thanks for your response!

If nothing else is site is a great thought exercise.   It is fascinating to read the WIKI and FAQ but I will restate the FAQ meeds to be updated with a lot more questions.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I have read the FAQ and it does not address the flight time problem in any way.  In fact, the FAQ does not contain the word "flight" if the search is working.
A fair point, I was being too harsh. Let's substitute "I didn't read the FAQ" with "I didn't do basic research" for the sake of accuracy. The sentiment stands.

This may not be the right place for the discussion on flight times but I have seen the question asked many times and never answered.  How do you explain it when flights between South Africa and Australia take the amount of time they would if plotted on a globe?  If plotted on any flat earth map in the Wiki / FAQ they would take much longer unless the aircraft could exceed it's posted speed and fly supersonic.

The map everyone wants to reference and or criticize doesn't accurately represent longitude. No one makes that claim. The projection is called Azimuthal Equidistant meaning that each line of longitude intersects the lines of latitude at equal distances. It is a projection made on the assumption of the Earth being a sphere, and should not be used beyond basic visualization of how our planet might appear with the North Pole as its center.

What does the map look like to you?  Are you saying longitude lines are not a consistent angle?   If one goes south of the north pole on East 150 degrees you eventually come to the southeast corner of Austraila. If you do the same on West 70 you will arrive close to the tip of South America.  These two points are roughly 5,600 miles or 9,000 km apart.   How far would that be on the map you think of?  The only flat earth maps I can find show those two points to be about as far apart as any two can.

I am not asking this to criticize but to understand more about FE theory.

The distances from point to point are fairly well established.
