How many times have ICBMs been used in reality?
Russia just used one about a month or so ago.

Are you saying that it shouldn't be a surprise that a know bug this serious should take so long to fix?

Doesn't matter. She won't be doing anything that requires any knowledge. Shouldn't matter what distro you use when all you need is a working web browser to browse facebook and look at cat videos/pictures with.

No, everyone knows you need a $3000 MacBook Pro to do that.
Nope.  A $600 Mac Mini will do just fine.

Commercial airplanes don't fly high enough to see the curvature of the Earth if it is curved.

commercial aircraft sel-
dom exceed altitudes of 40; 000 ft (1 ft 1⁄4 0:3048 m).
Interviews with pilots and high-elevation travelers
revealed that few if any could detect curvature below
about 50; 000 ft.

Exactly.  If you think you have seen the curvature of earth from a commercial flight, you are mistaken, and have been a victim of either perspective or lensing.  This was my point.

I love it when you guys cherry pick from that article.  Did you even read the conclusions?
Quote
Summary and Conclusions
In view of the agreement between the visual obser-
vations, measurements of the photographs, and the
theoretical curvatures, it seems well established that
the curvature of the Earth is reasonably well under-
stood and can be measured from photographs. The
threshold elevation for detecting curvature would
seem to be somewhat less than 35;000ft but not as
low as 14;000 ft.  Photographically, curvature may be
measurable as low as 20;000 ft.

As for stellar parallax, the ancient Greeks surmised correctly that there isn't enough stellar parallax observed to show that the earth is moving.
Were these the same ancient Greeks who surmised that flies spontaneously emerge from rotten meat?

None of these is particularly weird, given how versatile Linux is as a platform.
I don't know.  The crock pot is kinda weird. Only because you don't need an OS to run one.
You do if you want the WiFi connection so that you can adjust the settings with your smart phone.

What hair styles are approved for people over 30?
A cursory Google image search for "old North Korean man" resulted mostly in pictures of Kim Jong-un. I suspect that it's illegal to be old in North Korea.
Kim Jong-un's Run?

For long term capital gains, perhaps.  Short term capital gains are a different story.

Yes, Markjo, thank you for once again stating the obvious and adding nothing to the discussion whatsoever.

Good, then you realize that you do pay tax on capital gains for bitcoins that you hold for less than a year.  Glad that doesn't contradict what you said earlier:
As long as I don't sell more than 36K in bitcoin capital gains each year I can get away with 0% taxes.

As long as I don't sell more than 36K in bitcoin capital gains each year I can get away with 0% taxes. That means I could live the rest of my life on 36K a year and never have to pay any form of income taxes (assuming the tax rate doesn't change). Like I said, good news for me, I can easily live on 36k a year until I get out of college.

Hmmm....  It seems that the IRS doesn't think that Bitcoin is a currency either.

Yep, it's not officially over until we get the black box and see what the hell went wrong.
Assuming that the relevant data hasn't been overwritten.  If the plane really had been flying for several hours after disappearing, then the data recorders may not be any help at all.

The audio ones yeah, but the flight data should all be there.
Check me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall that the flight data recorders only keep the last 1 hour or so of data.
