Arts & Entertainment / Robin Williams Suicide
« on: August 12, 2014, 03:30:24 AM »
Today is a sad day. Apparently Robin Williams had been undergoing depression and has committed suicide this morning via asphyxiation. It is unclear how or why. Perhaps Night at the Museum III pushed him off the edge. Maybe he killed himself because ABC axed his sitcom.

I will be surprised if a suicide note does not turn up.

In RET a Lunar Eclipse occurs when the moon, earth, and sun perfectly align to cast a shadow of the earth upon the moon. However, there exists what are known as Selenelions, where both the moon and sun have been seen above the horizon during a Lunar Eclipse. Observations of seeing both the sun and moon in the sky during a Lunar Eclipse has been recorded as far back as Tycho Brahe. This event should be impossible under the Round Earth model.

#

Take a look at this Selenelion, for example. The moon is in front of the camera, the sun is rising behind the camera, and the earth is below. Firstly, during a lunar eclipse the moon should be well below the horizon line when the sun is rising up from the horizon. This is an impossibility in the Round Earth model.

Secondly, in the video the shadow of the earth is obscuring the moon from the top down rather than the bottom up, contrary to what would be expected when the earth is passing between the moon and sun. The sun's light should be peeking over the earth's horizon and hitting the moon from the top down.

Are we to believe that "refraction" has not only placed the moon that far above the earth's surface, but has moved the shadow the wrong way to boot?

Please explain.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Google Self Driving Car
« on: May 28, 2014, 07:45:33 AM »
Google released a video of their self driving car:

A couple things I noticed:

1. Subliminal messaging: The people selected for this video are stereotypes who don't look like good drivers (women, the elderly) and Google makes them better drivers with the Google Car.

2. Production slip: How did the blind man at 2:37 see that he was passing those people to yell at them from the window?

Flat Earth Projects / Proposal to communicate via text
« on: May 04, 2014, 05:10:21 AM »
Okay, I'm back, and I can function again. I propose that we figure out some way to text each other, in order to chat to get to know each other, and in order apply peer pressure to get on things like forum participation and calling votes.

Thoughts?

Flat Earth Community / Astronomers found a star colder than ice
« on: May 03, 2014, 09:28:22 PM »
Astronomers have found what is, according to the true and correct theories of Modern Astronomy, a star colder than ice!

How amazing that something like this can exist. Undoubtedly these methods of measuring the distance, composition, and temperature of stars based on slight color variations are well established, proven time and time again through direct sampling methods. Like the little-known time when the Victorian-era Royal Astronomical Society, who came up with most of the current methods, sent a space ship to a star. Remember that? It proved to the world that our present practice of Astronomy comes from something more than looking at stars and making guesses.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / The NBA should be shut down
« on: May 03, 2014, 05:14:15 AM »
Who is the NBA to condemn Donald Sterling for his opinions on people with certain physical characteristics, when the association is itself guilty of discriminating against people for their physical characteristics?

Why isn't the NBA recruiting 5 foot tall Chinese men to play on their teams? Where are all of the Korean women? They are selecting a certain race and gender because they are fast and tall.

The entire thing should be shuttered. The recent actions and announcements from the board that the NBA is an inclusive organization and vehemently against discrimination is a load of BS.

Flat Earth Projects / First PR Project for the Society
« on: February 06, 2014, 08:32:08 AM »
From the other forums, a number of ideas were brought up.

1. Create a video animation
2. Write an annotated edition of Earth Not a Globe
3. Improve the Wiki
4. Organize a Group Reddit AMA
5. Reach out to the press
6. Perform an experiment

Were there any other good ideas?

I see different kinds of pros and cons to each. While I would like to do them all, perhaps we as a group should decide what is MOST important, and should be focused on FIRST. Otherwise, if we try to do everything, delay and failure is imminent. When we decide on a direction to go threads should be created in the higher forums to gauge ideas from the community and help get things going.

The press thing, well, I sort of feel we need more substance to give the press than some information that a new forum was created because of technical issues and and lack of leadership. Maybe if we had a video, new wiki diagrams, annotated ENAG, or something, we could have something to show them. Also, if a name change is imminent, alerting the news right now would not be a good idea.

However, if it is felt that alerting the press should be our first and foremost goal, these feelings can be put aside.

Flat Earth Projects / Name Change
« on: February 01, 2014, 05:30:18 PM »
On the other board we were talking about a name change. What do we think about that?

Here was my contribution to the discussion:

Idea: The Flat Earth Academy of Sciences

A Think Tank dedicated to the advancement of earth science and the Zetetic Philosophy. As a sister organization to the Flat Earth Society the academy collects, organizes, and publishes scientific material pertaining to the movement.

Whereas the Flat Earth Society is a basic forum where newcomers go for basic discussion, the Flat Earth Academy of Sciences is where they go when they graduate. It is a place for higher level debate, and provides a venue for its members to publish research, organize projects, and speak with other Flat Earthers.

Flat Earth Community / PR Brainstorming
« on: January 21, 2014, 05:25:22 AM »
I recently read that Dogecoin is sending the Jamaican bobsled team to the Olympics, and it got me thinking. What we need to get this site off the ground is a publicity stunt.

We could issue a challenge, such as when LifeLock's CEO gave out his social security number and challenged people to steal his identity. Or it could be a contest, such as when a radio station held a "hold your wee for a Wii" water drinking contest.

Suggestions & Concerns / Can I have an email account/forwarder?
« on: January 16, 2014, 04:55:20 AM »
When sending out emails to the press I would like to send it under pr@tfes.org or tombishop@tfes.org. Is this possible?

Flat Earth Projects / Should we take members?
« on: January 13, 2014, 04:59:30 AM »
Should we take members for the Flat Earth Society? Or everyone who has signed up to the forum already be a member?

If we should take members, what special things should we offer?

Flat Earth Projects / Should we vote on fine details or broad proposals?
« on: January 08, 2014, 04:02:40 PM »
Would we rather vote on the fine details of a subject, or a broad proposal drafted by members?

For example, when making standards for voting, we would either create individual polls for deciding conditions when a vote is passed, what should happen before a pole is created, contingencies for an absent voter, whether users should be allowed to change their vote, what happens when there are conflicts with previous polls, etc; or we could vote on "Thork's Voting Standards", which outlines a suggestion for all of this in a single written proposal.

Absent a formal voting procedure, voting will conclude when all 5 participants have voted.
