Silhouette of an Island.

To the west of where I live there is a massive Island that's 200 miles away, and at sunset it’s between the people on the beach and the setting sun, if the earth was flat they should be able to see a silhouette of that Island in front of the sun, but they don’t, now if you mistakenly think the earth is flat and the sun is close please explain why they can't see the silhouette of that island in front of the sun.
