I know a rule is a rule but come on... if there was an example of "Deny it any way you can" this would be it.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Inside a Chinese iPhone factory

http://www.businessinsider.com/qa-with-an-iphone-factory-worker-at-pegatron-changshuo-in-shanghai-2017-4?r=US&IR=T&IR=T

A nifty interview with an NYU student who spent 6 months at a factory in China.  Kinda throws out the whole "bring jobs back to America" thing.  I mean, $450 a month salary to put a single screw into a phone.  Not only is that never going to be acceptable in America but it would be done by a machine anyway since a machine is cheaper than American labor.

What the ever loving fuck?  How in the name of God can people be this stupid?  This fanatical?  They KNOW God kills kids with diseases yet will let their child die because it's God's Will?  It's frightening to me.  It really really is.

I totally did not know this:
http://www.npr.org/2017/02/21/515625917/supreme-court-to-decide-if-mexican-nationals-may-sue-for-border-shooting

Summary:
Border Agent sees kids playing near the US/Mexico border.
Border agent grabs one through the fence, shoots at another hiding behind a concrete column holding up a railroad track.
Kid is shot in the head, dies, and border agents(who arrived later) leave.

The us refuses to extradite him or punish him in any way.  Border agent claims it was self defense cause he was surrounded by rock throwing kids.
Cell video says otherwise.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Discrimination based on Politics

https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/civilities-why-declining-to-dress-the-first-lady-isnt-like-refusing-to-bake-a-same-sex-wedding-cake/2017/01/18/1cc73a50-dd94-11e6-acdf-14da832ae861_story.html?utm_term=.7127f0099149

An interesting column that raises an interesting question:
If a baker can be forced to make a cake for a same sex couple, why can't a dress maker decline from making a Trump?

I admit it's got me questioning because on one hand, homosexuality is protected and it's your business that's being displayed when you bake a gay couple a wedding cake or make a dress for someone whose husband is a political figure you dislike.

On the other hand, one's personal views or lifestyle shouldn't decide if you do or do not do business with them.

Why is sexuality protected but political views aren't?  Couldn't one make the argument that discrimination based on political views is no different than religious views?  I mean, they're basically the same thing these days. (again)

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Best Buy + FBI = Bribery Win!

http://www.ocweekly.com/news/best-buy-geek-squad-informant-use-has-fbi-on-defense-in-child-porn-case-7794252

Summary: Bestbuy technician is an FBI informant who went through a guy's unallocated data and found a child porn pic.  FBI then arrests said person with underhanded trickery, lies, and other shit cause an image found in unallocated space can't be proven to have been put there knowingly.  There was no reason for him to go through said data.  Not as thoroughly as he likely had to.

While I am fully against child porn, it seems highly unlikely that he would take his computer to best buy if he was viewing such images.  It's also odd that he would only have one.  So odds are he either got it accidentelly or it was up on without him knowing and his pc used as a p2p server.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / ACA, 2017...
« on: January 03, 2017, 01:00:34 PM »
I found a decently written editorial piece that talks about the insurance industry and how it'll go once Republicans do their repeal and delay.

https://theconversation.com/as-republicans-ready-to-dismantle-aca-insurers-likely-to-bolt-70317

Summary:
Congress didn't fully fund the ACA and pay the subsidiaries like they should, which made insurance companies take on more risk than they thought.  So with this new administration and the unknown rule changes, they are likely to just drop out of all exchanges, effectively killing the ACA before congress's repeal can even take effect.

It won't be pretty and it's not likely to lower costs.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Trump
« on: December 01, 2016, 08:24:05 PM »
Yes, we need a new thread, I think so anyway.  The election is over (except the recounts).

Anyway:
Donald Trump and his VP (the governor of Indiana) have successfully kept 800 jobs in the state of Indiana by giving a company $7 Million worth of tax cuts over 10 years to said company.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/indiana-gives-7-million-in-tax-breaks-to-keep-carrier-jobs-1480608461
Quote
Indiana officials agreed to give United Technologies Corp. $7 million worth of tax breaks over 10 years to encourage the company’s Carrier Corp. unit to keep about 1,000 jobs in the state, according to people familiar with the matter.
The heating and air conditioning company will invest about $16 million to keep its operations in the state, including a furnace plant in Indianapolis that it had previously planned to close and shift the work to Mexico, the people said.
Carrier has previously said it expected to save about $65 million a year by shutting the plant and moving its operations to Monterrey.
President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence were expected to announced the deal with Carrier in Indiana on Thursday.
The deal would cover 800 Carrier workers from the Indianapolis furnace plant and an additional 300 research and headquarters positions that weren’t slated to go to Mexico, according to another person briefed on the deal.
The company still plans to move 600 jobs from the Carrier plant to Mexico. It also will proceed with plans to close a second plant in Huntington, Ind., that makes electronic controls, moving 700 other jobs to Mexico.
Mr. Trump has played up the partial rescue as a sign he can deliver on campaign promises. Through the presidential primary and general election, the Republican businessman had made an example of Carrier, at one point threatening to put a 35% tariff on Carrier imports unless it reversed its decision to move the jobs to Mexico.
“This is a big win for the incoming administration but an even bigger win for the people of Indiana,” transition spokesman Jason Miller said Thursday. The transition team has declined to provide details about the cost of keeping those jobs in the state.
Mr. Trump also will host an evening rally at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, a Republican stronghold. Ohio was one of six states the Republican captured after being won twice by Democratic President Barack Obama. That is the start of a broader “thank you” tour that is expected to include stops in Florida and across the Midwest.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, who during his presidential campaign had also attacked Carrier and other firms shifting work abroad, criticized the deal on Thursday, saying Mr. Trump failed to make good on his campaign pledge to save all of the jobs from moving to Mexico.
The deal also creates a bad precedent, Mr. Sanders contended, writing that Mr. Trump “has signaled to every corporation in America that they can threaten to offshore jobs in exchange for business-friendly tax benefits and incentives.”
The deal that emerged from weeks of negotiations between United Technologies brass and officials in the Trump camp led by Mr. Pence, the Indiana governor, is a relatively standard package of state incentives, according to people familiar with the agreement.
On Wednesday, Carrier said “incentives offered by the state were an important consideration,” without providing further details.
“This agreement in no way diminishes our belief in the benefits of free trade and that the forces of globalization will continue to require solutions for the long-term competitiveness of the U.S. and of American workers moving forward,” the company said.
In addition to Carrier, United Technologies makes Pratt & Whitney jet engines and Otis elevators. It employs about 200,000 people, about one third of them in the U.S.
Representatives of the incoming administration also discussed the Farmington, Conn., company’s wishes regarding federal regulations and their desires for an overhaul of corporate tax laws, according to one of the people.
For Mr. Trump, the trips to Indiana and Ohio meant there were no announced meetings on Thursday with prospective cabinet members. Those meetings will resume on Friday in New York, where Mr. Trump is scheduled to visit with Sen. David Perdue (R., Ga.), retired Adm. Jay Cohen, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, former United Nations Ambassador John Bolton, and Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D., N.D.).

What does this mean?
The company is getting $700,000 a year in tax savings to instead of $65 Million a year in cost savings.

Wait..
Trump says he'd want to block the deal?!

1) He can't, that's the FCC's/court's job.
2) WTF?  That seems both out of character for him and the Republican platform.

Seriously, WTF is this shit?  What do these people hope to gain?  Money?  Cause I don't think a US court can actually force another nation to give them money.  Especially for something like non-state sponsored terrorism.  I mean, what's next, suing people who murdered your family?  Oh no, being put in jail isn't enough, you gotta sue them too.

Oh wait, that's been a thing since OJ Simpson.  So yeah, fuck you Americans and your greedy, sue happy culture.  It's not justice, it's greed.

And this:
"If we're not funding terrorist organizations and killing people, then we don't have anything to worry about," she said.

Oooohhh man, does someone not know her history.  We fucking FUNDED, TRAINED, and ARMED the Taliban.  So yeah, we totally fund terrorist organizations and kill people.

Holy fuck.  America is crashing harder than a 747 with no engines.  I can see Martin Luther King Jr. spinning in his grave at the thought that every gain we've had in racial rights could be wiped away if this guy has a chance.

BUT... something tells me Donald Trump may help him.  Or at least pose for a few pictures.

Apparently he was in the house for a year in 1989.  So that makes this have less of an impact for me.

All of surge.sh is shut down.

Now this is shit, obviously, but what of the parody's actual topic?  The NRA often talks of arming everyone so it seems to me that while its a parody, its an idea they should get behind: free guns for the poor.  Just imagine how much safer America would be if the homeless, poverty stricken, and ghetto stuck people were armed with firearms and bullets for free?

I think they should legitimately do this.  Then we can see how it affects crime. :)

Yeah, he's selling his gun and selling it on the point that he killed an unarmed teenager.  I'm sorry but that's just wrong.  You wanna sell the gun, fine, but don't promote its significance.

And its up to nearly a fucking million dollars?!  How the... Who the fuck has that kind of cash for a politically chaged gun?

Not only that but...

From what I can find, he was ahot at but never pulled the gun.  In fact, he states it was not used despite being in the truck.  Yet Apperson claimed george pointed it at him moments before and that's why Apperson took the shot.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Religious "protection" Laws
« on: April 05, 2016, 07:21:24 PM »
http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/04/05/473107959/mississippi-governor-signs-religious-freedom-bill-into-law

So Mississippi is now allowing people to refuse service/discriminate and have no consequences all in the name of religious freedom.

I thought about this for a bit and realized that this is probably the best thing to happen to the LGBT/pre-marital sex people in the state.  Here's why:

Quote
"It specifically says that is a case where a person has a religious conviction, they can decline, but they must provide somebody in their office to provide that service," Gipson says. That requirement covers state employees declining to license or perform a marriage.

Basically, the state must now hire people who are ok with gay marriage.  Not only hire but keep available during operating hours every operating day.  They are sanctioning gay marriage by hiring known supporters!  The state is going to have to put up ads that require "Support for Gay Marriage" or at least "no moral objections to gay marriage".
But this also is a boon for everyone else too.  Muslims no longer need to be nice to Christians.  They can refuse service based on religious grounds and can't be fired for it.  Muslims doctors can refuse to treat a patient due to them being an infidel.

But it gets better.  If your religion is against "christians" then you can basically refuse service/fire anyone who IS christian.  Just imagine the firestorm that no one can stop when a Satanist evicts all his Christian tenants!  ;D
