For the record, I don't think they should be tried as adults. I don't see why they are. They live in a fantasy world where a made up character tells them to kill a friend. They are either criminally insane or not fully developed, or both.

Watched the video. Its fucked up that they're charging these children as adults. That's basically my two cents on the matter.

We need stricter gun control to prevent these things from happening.

The victim did survive though.

They had been plotting this since February, they should be tried as adults. Criminally insane adults. That's some cold shit.

Nope. Kids is kids. You can't go swinging the rules around when you get all teary eyed.

Some kids do retarded stuff. Some of them spend the rest of their lives regretting it. Some of them don't give a fuck. Life is weird.

Haha. No. Kids aren't kids anymore when they commit murder.

So once a child kills someone they immediately go through all the phases of puberty and their mind develops instantly into that of an adult... Ok.

How is that relevant? Are you implying that kids don't know killing people is wrong? The purpose of trying people as children is to keep them from being slapped with a $500 fine and jail time when they do something stupid like steal a crate of soda from a convenience store, not letting murderers out when they turn 18 just because they killed people as children.

Well technically the girl didn't die.

But it doesn't matter how developed a mind is, we all know from very young that killing other people is wrong. When you plan to kill someone for months then that's a seriously fucked up person. It's not like they accidently shot her.

Children know that stealing is wrong but they do it all the fucking time. They don't understand the consequences as well as fully grown adults, but they do know the difference between right and wrong.

I'm a bit conflicted on them being tried as adults as well.  They are still fairly early in their development and could potentially be given help for the obvious mental issues they have.  Personally, I'd rather see them get help and eventually be able to re-enter society as functional adults over being in jail until they are 75.

No. I'm betting the one behind this is a straight sociopath and obviously a violent one at that. There is nothing that can help her.

But even if she's tried as an adult she can possibly be put in a mental facility and eventually released. She's very young and the victim did not die. The other has hope since she seems like the tag-along friend rather than the main perpetrator. They may not get the full sentence.

Being nuts and being tried as adults are't mutually exclusive.  They'll still have the opportunity to plead insanity.

Yes. More or less. It's a little more complicated and I won't for an instant attempt to claim that I understand all the nuances. But basically children are mentally developing. As someone else pointed out, children (by and large) cannot be expected to understand the consequences of their actions as much as an adult.

You're arguing for special treatment of certain crimes. Eg, its OK to try to distinguish a child as a child for theft, but for a crime you find morally repugnant, such as murder, you want the child to be tried as an adult. This is an appeal to emotion.

If you read some of the information that has emerged about this story it does seem that the girls had a somewhat unusual grasp on reality.
