Quote from: JSS
Not everyone agrees that letting kids know that sometimes two women can fall in love

That is simply not part of the first grade educational curriculum. Teachers are there to provide the ascribed curriculum, not teach interesting non-curriculum factoids about their own perversion.

I would also consider a straight teacher teaching that her husband prefers women or has a penis also as perversion. It's not part of the first grade curriculum.

Teaching first graders about life isn't part of the curriculum? Since when? They teach about having jobs, getting married, all kinds of things. I remember learning about the post office, golf, what school was like in other countries, what a hospital visit was like.

You may want to restrict things because you think they are perversions, but that's your problem, not the childrens. Teaching children that their own bodies are evil, that's a perversion.

I'd be happy if you didn't spread your insecurity and repressed sexual feelings on innocent children.  Sex isn't evil or wrong just because it freaks you out.

I doubt if Trump really believes that Putin actually has secret evidence of the Bidens' corruption. He knows that Putin is capable of intervening on his behalf in the upcoming elections regardless of whether or not his rivals are guilty of anything, and that's what he's really asking for.

He didn't invent Hillary's emails so he probably won't create evidence this time either.

Putin has much more reason to fear Biden now than he did Hillary.  Helping to elect Trump was probably a strategic move for him, but sinking Biden is now a matter of his own survival.

I wouldn't say it's out of the question that Putin will just make something up, knowing Trump and Fox News will run with it and do his dirty work for him.

These are the sickos teaching six year olds.

Why does she feel the need to introduce herself by saying she is a lesbian and her spouse is a trans-fem person? I have never had a teacher introduce themselves as straight or tell me details about their relationships. At best I knew if they were a Ms. or a Mrs. Your private life is just that. Private. Keep it that way. It doesn't matter if you are a furry or a foodsexual. That is not part of the first grade educational curriculum. There is no reason to impose that on the children of others.

She is a sicko because it's now illegal for her to mention to her students the name of her partner?  She can't even legally mention her gender.

Not everyone is terrified of their sexuality, or ashamed of it.  I feel it's pretty sad some people are so repressed that they have such hate for anyone who isn't like them. Not everyone agrees that letting kids know that sometimes two women can fall in love is some sort of sinful hateful evil thing. The people passing these laws are the sickos, using religion to cover their own problems.

I remember my teachers talking about their husbands and wives, kids, families. The best teachers I had were ones that made personal connections to their students. Now that's going to be illegal, but only for some teachers. Shameful.

Just because you didn't care or pay attention to the lives of your teachers doesn't mean everyone else was like that.

There is no reason to impose your insecurities on children. They don't care who loves who until an adult tells them which groups they should hate.

Flat Earth Theory / Re: ECHOSTAR (Private Satellite) Earth footage?

That's what hypocrisy is, using one set of standards for your evidence, and another for everyone elses.  Is that more clear?
If I was doing that, then yeah...but I am not...so, it isn't.

So you do agree that multiple flat earth maps are a reason to dismiss them?  Just like you did for the explanations for the camera noise? I've never seen you take such a position.

Don't make a statement and then complain when someone picks it apart.
If someone actually picked apart my statement, then you would have a point.
Denial isn't a counterargument.
It is when what is claimed happened didn't actually happen.

It's still denial if presented without argument or evidence.  A simple denial in the end is just denial.

Your best argument is that you think it could have been faked, therefore it is fake. That's a circular argument.

Again, what is your reasoning for this video being fake?  I asked you in the quote above, and you failed to provide your evidence or reasoning.
My evidence is it could have been faked and there are multiple acknowledgments, even from the op, this is correct.

You simply repeated yourself here, saying it is faked because it could be faked. That was, and still is a circular argument. Do you not understand what a circular argument is?

Anything could be faked, that's not a valid reason. Football players COULD all be Disney-built animatronics, but that doesn't mean they are.

Again, other than you simply saying it CAN be faked, do you have any supporting evidence the video is faked?

That was the entire gist of my analogy, pointing out the hypocrisy of your comment. Why don't you apply that standard to flat earth?
What hypocrisy?

The hypocrisy is you dismissing RE evidence because two people came up with different ideas for some noise, yet you consistently reject that argument when confronted with the fact that there are a dozen FE maps and conflicting theories none of which are compatible at all.

That's what hypocrisy is, using one set of standards for your evidence, and another for everyone elses.  Is that more clear?

Don't make a statement and then complain when someone picks it apart.
If someone actually picked apart my statement, then you would have a point.

Denial isn't a counterargument.

So far I haven't seen any explanation from you on what is wrong with that video other than you claiming it's fake.  Please elaborate on your evidence?
All I saw was you offering a possible explanation.

In other words, you don't know either.

In the end, we have an admission the video could have been a recreation that could have been just as well done in an studio here on earth.

You have claimed this video is faked and have been asked to provide evidence as to why you think it's fake.

So far all you have come up with is that there is some noise or dust  in the camera feed.  Why does that make it fake?  Does noise not exist in cameras?  Dust isn't real? Is every video with noise or dust in the lens fake? If not, why is this one special?

Your best argument is that you think it could have been faked, therefore it is fake. That's a circular argument.

Again, what is your reasoning for this video being fake?  I asked you in the quote above, and you failed to provide your evidence or reasoning.

I wish you "two," would make up your mind.

Turns out you RE have no solid, definitive explanation at all.

Let me get this straight.  If you ask a question and get multiple answers, then you can assume there is no explanation at all?
RE takes that exact same stance with FE.

That was the entire gist of my analogy, pointing out the hypocrisy of your comment. Why don't you apply that standard to flat earth?

Remind me how many flat earth maps are there? And which one is the right one?
Since there is no definitive explanation here, change the subject, I guess, uh?

Why don't you go to a map thread?

Don't make a statement and then complain when someone picks it apart.

You conveniently 'forgot' to include the part of my comment that was entirely on topic.  If you have an issue with my analysis on the video noise, feel free to explain your reasoning.

So far I haven't seen any explanation from you on what is wrong with that video other than you claiming it's fake.  Please elaborate on your evidence?

As for the specks in the start of that video, I'm going to go with noise in the sensor array when the gain is going to extremes due light shining into the lens. You can see classic lens flare effects as bright light is being sent into the lens at an angle, as well as spot it actually shining on parts of the lens mechanism itself. Probably radiation damage over time slowly degrading the sensor.

It certainly looks like some de-bayer  effects on those bright pixels but it's hard to be sure since the images were turned into jpegs, then compresed, then recompressed by YouTube.  Lots of artifacting going on there.

Flat Earth Investigations / Re: ISS Photo From The Ground

LOL!!!

You write it is just a dot.

The first image in the article certainly presents more than a "dot."

The idiot in the article claims it captures a man performing a walk on the outside of the ISS from over 250 miles away.

None of you deserve any attention whatsoever, except to say you are both so wrong (you because you think the first image represents a dot) and the other guy who supposedly took the image, thinking he can spot a guy walking from 250 miles away.

I think you are confused. He was saying the astronaut was a dot, not that the entire picture was a dot. I suppose AllAroundTheWorld could have been more clear in the wording of his follow up sentence to indicate "It" was the astronaut, and not the picture. I hope that clears up your confusion.

I'm curious what you think he took a picture of if not the ISS and a spacewalk?

Do you have any calculations showing that a 11" Celestron telescope with a high resolution sensor is incapable of resolving the objects as claimed? From my own experience with telescopes and astrophotography, that kind of magnification is well within the limits of consumer grade telescope optics.  I've taken my own pictures of the ISS with much cheaper equipment.

I was convinced it was going to be a massive failure and something was going to go wrong.  Launch failure, failure to get into the right orbit, and most likely failure to deeply the sun shield or unfold all the mirror parts.

It was almost unreal how smoothly things went, and I'm finally starting to relax as well and looking forward to all the pictures and science that will be coming out of this.

Takes me back to the Hubble launch, but better as it seems like they didn't screw up the primary mirrors this time. :D

Now that the Ukraine invasion is probing to be a series of screw-ups by the Russian military, I wonder if Trump will finally stop calling Putin a genius.

It's well known that the one thing Trump hates most is a loser, and I have to imagine he will abandon his buddy Putin the moment it looks like he might be associated with losing.

I'll be watching the news to see the first signs of Trump doing a 180 and claiming he hardly knew the guy.  ::)

32
At this point Putin could show iron clad proof that he used financial blackmail on Trump and Republicans would just ignore it and pretend it never happened.

33
On the positive side, anything that pushes countries to move away from oil and gas is a good thing. Russia is truly and totally screwed if the world stops buying their oil. That's well over half of their exports and nearly half of their entire economy.

Hopefully this will give Europe the kick in the pants they need to move away from being dependent on Russian oil and gas.

34
Anyone who thinks there can be a winner of a nuclear war between the US and Russia doesn't understand how nuclear weapons work. :-\

35
Let's back an economically troubled nation with a giant ass nuclear arsenal further into a corner by imposing harsh sanctions. What could possibly go wrong?

Appeasing brutal expansionist dictators always goes well.

If he is willing to use nukes to get what he wants, he won't stop at Ukraine.  If he's that nuts, we're all fucked no matter what we do.

36
"Peacekeepers"

Putin wants peace at any cost, no matter how many Ukrainians he has to kill to get it?

That was one of my favorite lines from the show.  Perfectly expressed what I expect real law enforcement feelings on super hero/villains would be.  Not lofty discussions on justice and morality, just, oh crap not this shit again.

WORLD MAPS ARE NOT utilized for navigational purposes and NEVER HAVE BEEN .

How do you navigate across the world without using a map of the world?  If I want to travel from one side to the other (flat or round) how can I do this if I do not have a map showing me where to go?

If I want to travel from one town to another, I need a map showing those two locations.

If I want to plan a trip from one side of the Earth to the other, I need a map showing those two points and what is between them. How else would I know where to go?

World maps are exactly what one uses to plot plane and shipping routes.

I don't care if you were behind the wheel, I don't care if you were behind the joystick, I don't care if you were manning the conn...

The only thing that traveling a certain speed at a certain time renders is distance.

Distances have nothing to do with the shape of the earth.

Get that through your head.

Distances have everything to do with determining the shape of an object.  Measuring an object is how you determine it's shape.

If you have a set of points where you have measured the distance between them, you can find how they can be arranged, which will tell you the shape of the surface they are on.  If you have enough points you can eliminate some shapes and topographies entirely because they won't fit.

This is why knowing the distance between cities is useful for learning about the shape of the world they exist on.

I noticed you completely ignored this question in my previous post.  I am very interested in the flat map you claim to have that shows the correct distances between cities.

It should be simple for you to link this map that you claim is quite well represented.  If you can't provide it, please explain why?
My flat map shows the distance from St. Louis, MO to Dallas, TX to be 630 miles.

Roughly correct.

You have been asked half a dozen times to show your flat map, and have deflected or made excuses or flat out ignored each one.

This is another example pertaining to the OPs question.  You can't expect to change anyone mind if you claim to have a perfectly functioning map, but repeatedly refuse to show it to anyone.

I'll ask again, can you link to the map of the entire world you just used to measure that distance?  Why can't we see it?  Is it because it's only "roughly correct" and not actually accurate?
Why would I utilize a complete world map to show the distance from Dallas to St. Louis.

Especially when you, the RE Adherent claim that such renderings are incapable of accuracy?

That is sheer hilarity!

When are you going to stop playing games and get serious about the topic?

You claimed "The distances between cities is well known and are quite well represented in a flat plane presentation."

Do you have a flat map of the world with well represented city distances, or not?  It's a simple question.

If you do have a flat map of the Earth, why won't you show anyone?
